Review for apples party box game
Price was $9.72. I was skeptical about this game . . But, we took this with us on vacation, for my kids to meet my family for the first time. This game broke the ice in every household with every age kid & adult! it was soooooo much fun! and, the fact that every player during the game gets to pick the winning card for a round, keeps the game hilarious & fair! and, the answer that would or should be the perfect card isn't always because the judge decides! . . It is so much fun, telling why your card should win & everyone always chipped in for their favorite card (even if it wasn't their own! ). . I also like that for the kids, they are learning new things without even knowing it! the adults to! . . I have purchased this game 2x's & plan to again! because every household we went to were begging to have the game too!

Before purchasing this, i had played apples to apples exactly one time. It was at least 4-5 years ago, but i will never forget it. For some reason, the common loon was hands down my favorite card and i would choose it 80% of the time it was played while i was judge. . This box set is both good and bad in my opinion. There's a ridiculous amount of cards, meaning there's potential for many amazing and hilarious combinations, but on the other edge of that sword is the fact that there's way, way more potential for combinations that make no sense, giving you terrible hand after terrible hand. If you play to win, you shouldn't play. The main satisfaction derived from this game is playing with a large group of people and having 30% of the cards played be delightfully funny. Can i fault the game for these perceived transgressions? no. This game was made to be playable by a large age range, and i think it is. . Other notes: they've added to the rules from what i remember. It doesn't matter, you can play however you want, but the new set of rules feels convoluted. Maybe i just played the wrong way the first time. . I still love this game. Apples to Apples Party in a Box Game Review (BGG15)
This game kept all 9 cousins occupied for hours. Their age range is 6 to 26 and they were all into it. All day. Don't ask me to explain it, but any game where a 6 yr old, through immense 6-yr old concentration, can oust her 22 yr old ("hey, i'm older and i know i"ll win) cousin. Now that's a good game. -O. Hasbro Scrabble Crossword Game
This is some pretty good quality stuff for the price. Yes, as everyone else is complaining. The letter racks are plastic, but that doesn't really affect the play of the game. The board and the letters themselves are both wooden and seem sturdy enough to last for a while. . Are there better and more luxurious boards out there? sure, but they cost as whole lot more. If you want a game with a turntable, wooden racks and letters that slot in perfectly to groves cut into the board, go for it by all means. If you want a cost effective game that isn't so tacky that it compromises the game itself. This is what you're looking for
Put letters together, build words, add up your points and win! this classic game features the classic scrabble equipment for a big-time word-on-word showdown. Do you see a word your opponent hasn't seen. A double or triple letter or word space that will let you earn big points. Could the luck of the draw win you the game. Use your letters to score points and challenge your family and friends. It s your word against theirs! scrabble and all related characters are trademarks of hasbro.
Awesome! great fun with one, two or three players. Great for homeschoolers. It's school, but it's fun! increase vocabulary and spelling skills! also math skills! (you have to multiply, and add for score keeping) makes letters and words fun. Parents can play with kids, (you can help your kids by making smart suggestions and telling them what you would do) i wish it came with the scrabble dictionary, ( i use the dictionary app i have on my phone, but i know some of the words in there wouldn't pass for scrabble, but until i get the proper dictionary, we'll play like that). . I also like the real wooden word pieces. -Notice from Z. Jacqueline, Virginia

This is exactly what it says it is. There isn't a good description on the online store page, so here:. 1. The board is fairly sturdy. It's a thick one, not just cheap like i guessed when looking at the box. 2. All 4 tile racks are made of unfinished pine and feel like they need to be sanded once more. 3. All 100 tiles were present in their correct amounts per letter. The tiles are made of smooth and finished wood. 4. Mine came with a cloth tile bag and a game guide. . This isn't an expensive version of scrabble, but if you don't mind playing with wooden pieces instead of the old heavy plastic, it's great. Definitely worth what you pay for it.
- K. MelissaI ordered this game to use at the monthly "secret headquarters comics and games for everyone off-site game night" in tallahassee. (yeah, it's a long name, but now brian, our genial host, owes me one! ) anyway, i brought scrabble, mainly because i did not know how to play any of the other games. . When we opened it up, i think we were all expecting the look and feel of the "classic" scrabble of our childhoods. You know, heavy, smooth finished tiles and tile racks and a game board that felt like it could take years of carting around and gaming. . This game is sort of a lightweight version. Everything is there, but it's just feels a bit small and less substantial . The tiles and racks have minimal finish on them, and the board is thinner. . Now, as far as playing, this is a fine set. However, do not be expecting the original-feeling scrabble game. I think if you want the truly "classic" set, you have to spend a little more. . Why 4 stars: the product lives up to its description (if not my nostalgic expectations). The price is right, and online store delivered in a timely manner. . Problem: this may be an isolated problem; however, one of the tile racks was missing. When i alerted online store to this, as per its usual excellent customer service, it immediately arranged a replacement game to be sent to me. That's another reason for 4 stars-i love good customer service. . Btw, i learned to play two new games last friday: flux and ticket to ride europe. And by "learned, " i mean that i lost my shirt. I will have to see if online store carries these games, so i can catch up on some of this new-fangled stuff! . . Update-24 hrs. Later: the replacement scrabble game has arrived, and all 4 tile racks are there!
I noticed that the product images show two different editions - one with wooden benches, and one with plastic red benches. After reading some of the reviews i thought i'd get the wooden set, but unfortunately i did not. Just fyi - not all the sets they ship are the same. . Pros:. 1. Original color scheme, with pink dw, red tw, light blue dl and dark blue tl. Some of the modern sets use different colors which i find ugly (i've been playing scrabble for a long time and am somewhat set in my ways). 2. Big bold tile lettering. Bigger than most sets i've seen. I like it. 3. Tile distribution references on the board, one facing up and another copy facing down so two players can both read it easily. 4. Game tiles are wooden, not plastic. 5. It's scrabble! . . Cons:. 1. Red plastic benches are cheap and ugly. 2. No score sheet included. . Overall, a solid, simple copy of scrabble for cheap. Makes a great first set.

The F.A.Q. for Apples To Apples Party In A Box Game (Mattel)
I don't know that a group of cocktail drinking adults could sit through too many rounds of this game without feeling a little silly, but it's perfect for mixed company. We always played tons of games at family gatherings and around the holidays when the whole motley crew would be staying with my grandparents. But as they began getting up in years it was harder for them to play host & hostess to all of us and things gradually started transitioning to my folks house more and more. My parents had candyland from when i was little (25 years ago) and that wasn't really cutting the mustard. I took it upon myself to get on online store and order a dozen or so games for them to keep at their house and this was one of them. . I had never heard of it before. I ordered it because i basically ordered the top 12 most popular games that appeared to be family friendly. It has been a few years since i purchased this and i can report it has gotten the most use out of the whole lot. I believe it's been such a big hit for the following reasons:. . - its easy enough for little kids to play & really enjoy (if they can read, they're old enough to play without a helper). - its fun for adults to play if there are little kids playing or hilarious old people playing. - its good for families that don't see one another a lot because it involves a degree of making personality inferences when you're playing to win. - every turn involves all the players so nobody has time to mess with their smart phone or ipad or whatever - its like actually engaging family time. - it goes by pretty quickly. It's nothing like the time it takes to play monopoly or trivial pursuit and the like. If everybody is having fun then you just play another game but if you're nearing dinner time or whatever the game can wrap up pretty quickly. - i don't think it matters how many people play, it's basically just a card game. 2 players wouldn't work but we've had 8 or 10 playing lots of times. - the content is clean, there's nothing vulgar, nothing controversial. . So, if you ever have company i would for sure keep this game on hand. You can't go wrong.
A number of questions have been asked here.
Q&A
(0) Question: Are these the same cards that are in the bigger box marked "party box" family?
Answer: There are two formats of the "party box" - standard packaging, and frustration-free packaging. The standard packaging contains 441 red cards and 63 double-word green cards, and measures 10. 5"x10. 5"x1. 5". The frustration-free package contains 438 red cards and 62 double-word green cards, and measures 6"x3. 75"x2. 5". The there are two formats of the "party box" - standard packaging, and frustration-free packaging. The standard packaging contains 441 red cards and 63 double-word green cards, and measures 10. 5"x10. 5"x1. 5". The frustration-free package contains 438 red cards and 62 double-word green cards, and measures 6"x3. 75"x2. 5". The double-word green cards change the game play slightly: the judge chooses which word to use, or you can play the "2 for 1" variation in which "each player selects the red apple card from their hand that is best described by both words on the green apple card". Both party boxes have the label "family" in the lower left corner to indicate it is a family category game. This should not be confused with the family edition. The family edition is also labeled "party box" and, just by looking at the picture, it is impossible to distinguish this from the standard packaging party box. The price, and the words "family edition" in the title are the only clues that this is actually a different product. The family edition contains 756 red cards and 252 green cards, and measures 12"x12"x4". It is a slightly bigger box than the standard packaging of the party box, but it is hard to tell this from the pictures, because they have the same shape. To be sure of which one you are getting, look in the description: in the family edition you will see "includes over 1, 000 cards", as compared to "includes over 500 cards" in either format of the party box. Beware of the misleading advertisement on the family edition product page that says "there is a newer model of this item", with a link to the party box page. This fooled me into thinking that the standard packaging of the party box is the same thing as the family edition, just a newer version. This is not the case! the party box is half the price, but contains less than half the cards. The reduction of cards hits the hardest in the green card supply, with a mere 62 in the frustration-free party box and 63 in the standard packaging party box. The party box green cards have two words each and the family edition green cards have one word each, but there are four times as many. So if you really want to play the "2 for 1" variation with the family edition, you can draw two green cards per turn and still have more than twice as many turns as with the party box. The rules sheet for the party box is simplified and lacks detail. It does not contain the chart of how many cards are needed to win for different numbers of players, as there is in the family edition rules sheet. Physically, the standard packaging party box is very close to the family edition, only a couple of inches smaller but the same shape. The frustration-free packaging is more compact and portable. You could throw the frustration-free box in a purse or backpack to take with you on the go. If the box is jostled around or turned upside down, the cards will stay secure in the frustration-free packaging party box, but will get shaken around and fall out of their tray in either the standard packaging party box or the family edition. If portability is your priority, compare the frustration-free party box to the "apples to apples to go" portable version, with 270 red cards and 90 single-word green cards, measuring 8"x8"x2", and featuring a built-in carrying case with magnetic closure. Conclusion: the party box is a cheaper version, what i would call apples to apples "lite". It is roughly half the price of the family edition, and contains less than half of the cards. It is a good budget option if you don't anticipate needing 1, 000+ cards. The frustration-free packaging is compact and decently portable, so it may be a good budget alternative to the "apples to apples to go" travel edition. Although the party box is being advertised as an updated model of the family edition, it is really a downgraded version. The packaging is so similar that it is very misleading. Don't be fooled.
(1) Question: Is there an adult version?

(3) Question: Why is this called the "family edition"?
Answer: I believe it's because there are no off-color cards. It's appropriate for anyone to play. There are a few different versions, including one that's a little more "adult". I've never actually seen that one or played it, so i can't speak about the content. Also, even though the cards are "all-age appropriate", depending on the cards you choose to play it can still get a little raunchy. But it will go right over the kids heads. Hope this helps!
(4) Question: What's the difference between this and the family edition? which would you recommend for college students learning english?

(6) Question: Can you help me understand the difference between the regular and junior versions of this game?
Answer: The junior version has half as many cards, simpler words to choose from and more kid friendly. The regular version has tv and music "stars" and also has words (e. G. Eternal, anxious, chains, etc. ) and "famous" people that kids would probably not know. You can really have several people play either one, especially if the junior version has half as many cards, simpler words to choose from and more kid friendly. The regular version has tv and music "stars" and also has words (e. G. Eternal, anxious, chains, etc. ) and "famous" people that kids would probably not know. You can really have several people play either one, especially if you recycle the cards with the jr version (we've played it with 6 people no problem. )
(7) Question: Can this be played with a group of 15 people? or better with smaller groups?
Answer: I purchased this as a gift for someone so i never opened it. , but after reading the back of the box, i think it would be better with smaller groups.
(8) Question: Can you play with just 4 people?
Answer: Yes. could even play with 3, but 4 is better.
(9) Question: Is there a french version of this game?
Answer: Yes, there is one, but it's called concordances - tactic french edition.

Best apples to apples party in a box game (mattel) in review
We love family games. My daughter loves games that are word oriented. My husband loves games that are not long and easy to learn to play. This game makes all of us happy. . Essentially you are trying to find the word (or phrase)in your hand that best matches the word or phrase on the played card. The person who gets to judge the phrases or words suitability rotates through the players. You play five rounds and then the person who has had the most winning plays wins. . Part of what makes this fun is the table banter, getting to know the other players through the words and phrases they pick to play or pick to win each round. The other part of what makes this fun are the crazy little phrases or quotes on each of the cards. . So, an example might be this- the main card played that everyone has to match might be rotten. At this point player one will pull one card from his hadn that matches this word. It might be cruella deville. Player two might play the word apples. Another player might play traffic. The judge then reads everything and picks the word he thinks best matches rotten. . This set comes with many cards. We have been playing off and on for over a year and haven't opened all of the cards. We have a family of five and play this once a week almost every week. So the party box while good for a big party will also provide you with years of fun as a family. . Well worth the money. Enjoy.

Play this game often and it is a great ice breaker for a group of people who don't know each other or have just met.

This game is unusual since there are no wrong answers! there are better and worse answers, but it is all a matter of opinion. If you have shy persons who hesitate to play a game because they are afraid they can't remember the right answer (like trivial pursuit), this is a game they will enjoy.

The first time i played this game was with my girlfriend and her family, we had i believe it was 6 people playing. It was a lot of fun even though i didn't do so well. I had the disadvantage because everyone else was in her family so they all knew each other a lot better then i did but we still had a lot of fun. The best thing about this game is that it is easy to play so even a young kid can play. My girlfriends niece is only 5 and she was able to play with us. She might not have understood some of the things but she enjoyed playing and we all had fun. . Last christmas i decided to get the game and play it with my family and it was a lot of fun. The funny thing is that me and my sister think so much alike she kept picking my card without even knowing it. That is the great thing about the game is that it is very engaging and the better you can read someone the better you will probably do. I am giving it four stars which i feel is fair. Its a great game but some of my older siblings kind of got bored of it. I guess to them it wasn't challenging enough but other then that its a great game, especially if you want something to play on a family night with your kids and maybe even their friends, its not one of those games where you're limited to a few people. Hopefully you found this review helpful.

This is great fun for the entire family! we just have a blast playing. Simple rules. Makes family time, especially holidays so much fun.
S. Courtney, Centre says
This game is great because it can be played with such a varying number of people and you won't always have that one person that always wins. It helps to know a little about the personality of the people you're playing with. Some will be very literal and pick the card that is a perfect fit, while a more funny player may decide to pick the one that is the most ridiculous. It's good for different ages because a child can play with the way their mind works, but a bunch of adults playing together can make card combinations whose humor may go over the head of younger groups. Don't worry, nothing dirty that you'd have to filter the cards for. There is something for everybody from pop culture to more historical cards. It also has blank cards that allow you to create your own but i've never cared used those. I'd recommend it as the perfect impromptu game when company, even a less familiar group, is over as it gives you an insight into how each player thinks and it a perfect ice breaker.

Our family loves this game. We have a lot of laughs as we play it and there are plenty of cards to keep it going for hours. When we play with our younger children we play the apples to apples disney edition since it has pictures to help the kids who either can't read yet or don't read well. But the party box is great for older children and adults (although sometimes a name comes up that even older children aren't familiar with)! really one of the best board games i've ever played. It's fast-paced and easy to score.

I don't notice much difference from other apples to apples. There were a couple of political names that could be considered controversial. I just removed them when we came across them. Apples to apples (all versions) is great fun to play. We play different versions to include various ages or we play in teams with little ones who can't read very well. We have had games that included a 90-year-old and some pre-schoolers (on teams). We always have family fun with apples to apples! we have several different versions at our house. My daughters who are teachers can use it at school, too. It is a game that can be played by players with varied ability and nobody gets embarrassed because they can't understand. The "judge" doesn't know if you are being funny , don't understand, or just don't have any other card to play. You can't go wrong with apples to apples!

This might be the ultimate party game. Cranium has got too many embarrassing activities for us introverted folks, scattegories inevitably leads to arguments, and not everyone enjoys video games like mario party and warioware. Apples to apples is hilarious, "family-friendly", and so easy that basically anyone can learn to play in just a couple minutes. You can pretty much play with as few or as many people as you want to and for as long as you want to. The box has recommended end points for given numbers of people, but you can really end this game whenever it's convenient and just call the person with the most won cards the victor. The game comes with a couple of blank cards for you to customize, but we went through our decks with sharpies and altered any cards with people/events/etc. That we weren't familiar with, so our game is extra-customized. There are also expansion decks available, as well as the "sour" version, in which you can lose points, as well as gain them. If you enjoy apples to apples and your circle of friends can handle copious amounts of hilarious crudeness, then i also highly recommend cards against humanity, which is exactly like apples to apples, but r-rated (at least).

Super fun game! . This is best played with 3 or more people. We've played with as many as 9 people and it was so much fun! . This game has cards that are current and relevant to today's news, memes, fads, sayings and fashion. Every player gets a turn: you take a green card with 2 words on it. You choose which word you want and the others choose from their hand of red cards which one matches your word the best. Whoever put the winning red card in, takes the green card as a win. It is a fun way to find out just how twisted and fun your family and friends are! . Although this game is called 'apples to apples', it is definitely not 'hi ho cherry-o'. This had everyone in stitches and after 2 complete rounds (the winner is the one who has 4 green cards). We might need an expansion pack for more cards! . .
