The newest career dolls are starting to take advantage of the new range of body styles which mattel has released. With pop star barbie, the curvy body is utilized. The face mold on this cute doll is new to me. It has a broader face and a much more pronounced nose and lips with an open mouth smile. It is really a lovely addition to the line. I'll show a photo of her with another of the curvy body dolls to show that they are the same. . Barbie is fair skin with a light dusting of freckles across her nose and cheeks. Her hair is medium dark brown with a small pink streak to the left, waist length and quite curly. Her eye color is hazel (brown/green). Her lips are medium pink and she does not wear nail polish. . She is only articulated at the neck and shoulders. Her hands have open fingers except for the middle and ring fingers which are fused. Her right arm is straight with the hand slightly turn outward. The left arm is bent with the palm facing in. The photo of the doll shows incorrect arms. . Barbie is wearing a bright aqua lamé halter dress. The bodice is tied at the neck with matching ribbon and the rest of the dress closes at the back with hook and loop. The bodice is fairly form fitting and the waist is gathered to a full skirt which ends mid-thigh. Barbie wears a wear of pewter tone plastic stiletto pumps. She carries a burgundy plastic guitar which has a transparent plastic strap which holds it around her neck. . I am so pleased to see that mattel is moving the new body styles into lines other than the fashionistas. It is a wonderful thing for girls to have role models (such as careers) that portray barbie in a wide range of body types. From the picture at the back of the box, it looks like farmer barbie may be based on the tall body an the cupcake baker may be based on the petite body. While the majority of the dolls are standard barbie, i'm hoping to see more diversity in body and skin tones in more of the barbie lines. Who knows, maybe mattel can come out with articulated made to move barbies in these new body types as well.

This is a very cute doll, though i didn't realize she was "petite" or flat footed when we got her. The blonde streaks in her hair are fun, and the hair itself is the higher quality, silky hair (some people complain it's "greasy" on other barbie lines), but if you've got littles who aren't so good about brushing the doll's hair, it makes it at a lot easier to salvage. The outfit is adorable, and my kids have lots of fun playing with her. I also really like that this doll appears to be bi-racial which is absolutely awesome since my two nieces are as well! they will enjoy playing with her, too!
