Friends and i played this for our monthly game night and laughed so much our sides hurt. We were also perplexed by some of shakespeare's quotes but the cards will provide definitions at the bottom.

Click to see NoticeBards Dispense Profanity: A Party Game Based On Works William Shakespeare (Why So Ever)"My household is a fan of cards against humanity. We have all the expansions. During one of our annual parties a friend recommended this to us which led us to picking up bards dispense profanity. . While i was initially concerned that a lot of the shakespeare would be lost on some players, it was ultimately of minimal concern. I was tickled by some of the blade runner references and had a good laugh as some of the marlowe pointed literature conspiracies. . My husband is not a reader and he's certainly never been big on literary classics or history. He did enjoy this version of the game, though i know he enjoyed the cah base more. We had forgotten the "black cards" to our cah and ended up using the questions from this set as a stand in: which worked perfectly. Mixing and matching the sets for use can be loads of fun. . For those who are curious: this game is not a seamless card set for cah. They are made with a different card stock, do not have rounded edges and are not the came color: which means these can not blend in seamlessly with a cah deck. My suggestion would be to either use just the questions and just the answer cards if you mixing games together for a new experience. This does not detract any stars for me as adding this to our game collection has extended the freshness of these games. When you play cah enough, the shock and laugh factor wears off. This set renewed the game for us. . This, i think, is even better suited for people who are into literature. It's fun to guess what the source is of some of the sayings (hint: if asses are talked about, there is a good chance it's midsummer's night dream) and again blade runner references! . . Pick this up, it's a fun game and added to our experience with cah. This will now become a permanent game in our "offensive party games" shelf."

The Play's Thing Board Game

Don't just play this game. perform it.

The Play's Thing Board GamePlays-Thing-Board-GameHere's an idea: watch shakespeare in love and keep that film's re-creation of the globe theatre in mind while playing the play's the thing. Set in the globe, this board game encourages players to get to know their bard a little better. Each player is an unemployed actor in elizabethan england, desirous of performing as many scenes as possible from shakespeare's plays. The object of the game is to assemble all the cards necessary to mount and perform a particular scene from julius caesar, hamlet, or romeo and juliet (actually, performance is optional). Roll a die and make your way across the board, which features all sorts of stage mishaps, duels, and missed cues. There are four levels of play geared toward different degrees of familiarity with shakespeare's work. There are also several variations on the basic game that can be played; instructions are included. This is a great way to brush up on the three featured classics (in fact, several teachers are quoted in the packaging as using the play's the thing to increase student involvement with the material). Ages 12 and older. -tom keogh

Best bards dispense profanity: a party game based on works william shakespeare (why so ever) in review

I purchased this as a gift for a friend who is a bit of a literary/theater nerd and she adored it. The selection of quotes from various plays are fantastic and the yellow prompt cards are great as well. Literature junkies will appreciate the references but it is not too highbrow that friends who aren't well versed in the bard will still enjoy it.

C. Lynette, Swindon says

If you like the bard and apples to apples, you'll love this!

V. Joanne, Windsor and Maidenhead

What a refreshing new slant on an old favorite. Fun and yet educational at the same time. Fun for hs age and up. Great at parties or family get togethers.

I. Nees, Colorado says

Good quality cards that held up to some enthusiastic playing. So much fun and would absolutely recommend for anyone who appreciates that shakespeare was a really smutty guy.

O. Kristen, Northwest Territries

A great gift!

L. Wayt, Cumbria says

Even my mom enjoys playing this game!

Q. Theola, Hessen

It's not quite on the same level as cards against humanity, but with the right crowd it's pretty damn fun.

N. Angelica, Blackpool says

I bought this as a present for my young adult daughter who is a fan of shakespeare. She loves it and plays with her friends in performing arts. It is played exactly like 'cards against humanity'. . This is an adult game and like 'cards against humanity' is not suitable for children.

X. Smith, Redbridge

This is a wonderful adult version of apples to apples. I prefer this classy game to cards against humanity, which only tries to shock you into having a good time. This is entirely too enjoyable to pass up. . The only drawback is that the cards are of a bit softer material than cards usually are. Don't spill anything on them!

E. Valdez, New York says

This game is impossible not to enjoy, whether you know anything about shakespeare or not - it makes no difference. I had no idea how much wit, and how much "inappropriate" language, is in his plays. It's extremely easy to learn so you aren't wasting time reading instructions. In fact, the very-brief instructions say to just play until you get bored ; -) nothing serious about this game! . Caution: i would not recommend this as a family game for kids. Even if the phrases themselves are relatively innocuous, it's impossible to resist combining answers that create hysterically-inappropriate responses. Perhaps if you pulled out some of the cards, it would be okay for kids. Great gift! truly and no-brainer gift for any adult friend(s. ) i bought three copies and have already given them all away, and my wife has done the same thing. Most games take so long to learn and set up, you're giving your friend an obligation. But this game is just simple, fun, and funny. Highly recommended!

T. Monique, Essex

This game is hilarious and for anyone. The cards make sense even if you don't know the plays. They're a little flimsy and i feel that i could make them myself just as easily. Overall- worth the $10!

Y. Megan, Harrow says

As a huge shakespeare need, this game makes me so happy. Not only is it insanely clever, it's very accessible and works perfectly even if shakespeare isn't your soul purpose for living. It's much less problematic compared to cards agaisnt humanity, which always makes me feel slimy when i play it. The only thing i would do differently is take out all the merchant of venice cards and a few others- i think this game stands well on its feet without the couple jew or "slut" jokes in the deck.

P. Carmen, Sheffield

This game is so fun! all my nerdy friends love it. It's also great for making new friends at the shakespeare plays i go to in the summer.
