Ticket To Ride – Europe (Days Of Wonder) 331

Review for days of wonder dow 7202

Price was $32.00. This is a great board game to play. All of the people i have played it with love it. If you've never played any of the ticket to ride game the object is to build railroad lines from from one city to another based on the cards you draw. For those of you who have played the original ticket to ride it's the same game with a few added twist. This version also has regular size playing cards, which make it a lot easier to play.

Introduction

I first started playing the original ticket to ride (usa map) with friends several years ago and fell in love with it. I'd always wanted to buy the game for myself but one thing or another would get in the way causing me to have to postpone. A couple months ago a friend suggested to me that i should buy the ticket to ride europe version when i finally got the chance because it had some really great added elements. I took their word of advice and decided to get the european version, and i haven't been disappointing. While i still love the original ticket to ride it has been a lot of fun to test my european geography skills. The names of cities are written in historical/local names instead of current names (ie. Moskova instead of moscow, wien instead of vienna) so some of my friends had trouble catching their bearings but they caught on quickly. I like the added element of being given the choice of completing one long route for many points (the long route cards are kept desperately from the other route cards) instead of solely shorter routes or having the long routes mixed in to all of the route cards. I also like the added element of train stations which, especially in route laden western europe is sometimes the only way you can complete your routes when so many people are going for the same paths. . The only con is the game can be kind of dull to play with only 2 people, oftentimes i find that we end up playing on opposite sides of the continent, never crossing paths, but with more than two it can get quite complicated and exciting. Best Ticket To Ride - Europe as-of ( Sep 2020 ) | Days Of Wonder-Toys And Games Review Extras Ticket To Ride - Europe For 2-5 players. Takes 30-60 minutes to play. Ticket To Ride - Europe Review (DOW7202)

We opened this game christmas eve and proceeded to play at least three times. And, it was just the two of us, not the intended 3-5 players. We like to mix it up, sometimes we'll each play two hands. I like this version as a refreshing departure from america version because it has the tunnels and the stations and ferries- we forced ourselves to play all of them and when re-reading the rules noticed you can only pick up cards or lay down trains- many people i've played with allow you to draw every turn and also lay trains. Again, this makes it much more of a challenge, which we were looking for after (occasionally) getting bored playing with just two players. When we have several players it's awesome and stations do get tricky. . I love the ticket to ride series. I do not regret getting europe after having another version already, because it is a whole new version of the game. I may be a touch ttr obsessed. Preach. -P. Emily

This is a genuinely outstanding board game, one that i personally cherish a lot, and my family as well. I had this in my wishlist for a long time, because let's face it . These games are not cheap, but now it came as a deal (i guess for the black friday season), and i did not doubt it a second. We have already played three nights in a row, and we just love it! i was familiar with the us version of this game, but i find this european version to be better, not only because of the ferries, stations, and tunnels, but just the layout of the old continent makes me feel more immersed into the game. I'd say if this is something you wanted to get, just get it, even at regular price, this is absolutely worth every penny. I am not suprised it got more than 1, 000 5 star reviews!

The other side of the game board shows a map of pennsylvania.   playing this scenario uses a deck of stock shares, representing actual historical railroads that operated in the region shown on the map.   when a player completes a route on the map, they have the opportunity to "invest" in a company through the use of the stock shares, with control of each company awarding bonus points at the end of the game.   this scenario supports 2 to 5 players.

The F.A.Q. for Ticket To Ride - Europe (Days Of Wonder)

We got this game for christmas as a new entry when the adult(ish) kids and friends return to the nest. We have enjoyed playing the game. Initially there is a bit of a learning curve and lots of rules to figure out. However, once you have played it for a few minutes, it all makes sense. You can take many different tactics and strategies to achieve success. We have played it as a 2 person game as well as a 4 person game. I believe 5 people is the max which limits the size of your gatherings where you may pull this game out. If programmed well, this would be a good app type of game. We have enjoyed playing this game. Depending on the size of the gathering, we enjoy telestrations (lots of laughs) and cranium for large groups, . With this game and card games for smaller groups. Games usually took 1 hour to complete.

A number of questions have been asked here.

I read the reviews on this game and watched some youtube video reviews as well and decided to purchase it for some new euro style gaming. I previously had purchased another euro style game called carcassonne which is now a family favorite (or should i say favourite) and i was looking for something else to add to the gaming mix. . Ticket to ride europe fit with what i was looking for. I first compared the two prominent versions of the game: the usa map to the europe map and read comparison reviews on them both before deciding to buy. I went with the europe version of the game because it seems there were more route paths to connect your cities compared to the usa map. What i did not expect was the names of the european cities to be really old and spelled differently than what i am used to now. I think it was done this way to fit into the time period, but not being that familiar with the old names of the european cities it was difficult for us to determine our various routes. The route cards do show a mini map though with highlights in the general area of the two cities you need to connect, but it is still a bit difficult especially for the younger kids in the family. What this means is that we need to take extra time in looking at our route cards and the map to decide on our paths to build. . Other than getting used to the city names the only other minor downside i see in the game is that there are so many train pieces. You have to be really careful not to drop them all over the place when picking up. The game does come with 2 extra train pieces per color which is good in case you lose a couple. After that though you may have to dock everyone a piece if you really start losing some (or buy a new game). . Regarding the game play, it is great! not too difficult to learn at all and once everyone knows what they have to do it moves along at a good pace. Although our initial games of 4 and then 5 people lasted about 2. 5 hours each to play which everyone thought was a bit too long. The non players passing through the room kept making comments like "you guys are still playing that game? ! ? ! " and "when the hell is it going to be over already? ! ? ". But those of us playing the game were not fatigued at all by the amount of time it was taking us to get through it. I think it is conceivable to have a game last maybe 1. 5 hours on average. . Overall, the family really liked this game. It is definitely a must for a unique and new type of gaming experience that is interactive and not just your boring roll the dice and move type thing. I will be getting the ticket to ride 1912 expansion pack for this game as well since i have read it adds a couple more elements to the play in addition to some new route cards. . Update: it has been about 1 year now since i had the game and i did get the 1912 expansion which adds a ton more route cards to the game. We have been playing this game so much that the base routes kept coming up and it was getting a bit boring. It seemed like we were always getting the same routes game after game. The 1912 expansion is a must. My family is addicted to this game and even more so with the 1912 expansion. This is a great game.

Best ticket to ride - europe (days of wonder) in review

Having loved and played "ticket to ride" countless numbers of times, i decided it was time to buy ticket to ride europe. It's pretty amazing, and comes with a couple more challenges than the original game. (i love trying to pronounce all the old cities of europe. ) the basic rules are the same as they are in ticket to ride, gameplay follows the same general order. On your turn, you collect train car cards to get enough to go from one city to another, (if the track has three green spaces, you need three green cards) to accomplish the route on your destination tickets. "europe" comes with train stations allowing you to connect easier, and also the foreboding ferries and tunnels. The ferries are routes that cross any body of water (makes sense, right? ) and you must have, in addition to your cards of the same color, however many locomotives (wild cards) shown on that part of your route. (example: "palermo" to "roma" is a gray track ferry with 4 parts. One of them must be a wild and the other three could be a matching three of any color. ) then there are the tunnels, which are like others, except, after you lay down your cards, before placing your trains on the board, you must flip over the first three cards on the train car card draw deck. If one, two or all three are either the colors you are playing to go from city to city, or wilds, you must have that many more cards of that color (or wilds. ) example: you are trying to go from "paris" to "zurich" (which is a gray tunnel route, 3 long), so you play two blues and a wild card. Before placing your trains on the board, you flip over the first card. Say it's a green. No problem. Then, you flip over a second card and it's a white. Good so far. Then, flip over the last card and it's a wild (which counts as a blue. ) this means, you must (in addition to the three cards you are playing) play one more blue or wild card in your hand to go on that route. If there were two flipped over, you must have an additional two, and the same if all three. (of course, there are times when none of the three present a problem and you can play your route like normal, which is nice. ) if you don't have either a blue or a wild, you cannot play there and your turn ends. Now, that was kind of a long-winded example, but it makes it quite a bit harder, especially if you have a route that has many tunnel tracks. It can also be very frustrating. To sum it up, ticket to ride europe is a very fun game that is easily taught, easily learned and easily played. Anyways,

Love, love, love this game! my daughter's friend brought it over and taught us how to play. We played it 3 times in 2 days. I immediately purchased it for our family. There is strategy involved but anyone can play. My husband always wins the strategy games, that's why i always pick simpler games like uno when it's my turn to pick. He's never beat me at this game!

Great game! there are differences in the game play vs the original version but i think that once you experience this version, you will prefer it to the original rules. There are tunnels and ferries in addition to the routes which make the game a little more challenging, plus longer routes. The cards are also a larger than the original version's which actually makes a big difference during gameplay. No regrets buying this game even though i love the original, and the price is a little high. I highly recommend this game!

If you are a fan of ticket to ride this is an essential addition to your game library. Ticket to ride is a multi-player game in which people compete to build routes and gain the most victory points. This game is easy to understand. Board, box and components are of good quality.

I bought this as a christmas gift for our 7-year-old after i played it at a meet-up party. The board is full of train tracks and destinations. You draw cards with routes from one destination to another at the start of the game. Then you build track to connect your destinations through the game. You can lay track for as many routes as you can, until someone runs out of track to lay. Then you count up points to see who won. The rules are a little complex, but make it a very fun game to play. It really grows on you. Once you figure out some of the strategies, it becomes more fun. You are supposed to keep your route, and your track cards secret, but i have found with new players, it is easier to make all of these visible for the first couple of games, so that everyone can help each other and get used to the rules. . I bought the europe version specifically because it has double tracks in a lot of places. We live in the u. S. , and i was going to buy the u. S. Version. Someone at the meet-up made the astute suggestion that i stick with europe if i was buying for a child, because the u. S. Version only has single tracks. It was very good advice. When a set of tracks is taken up, it is a lot more difficult to get to reach a destination, and this can be frustrating for the younger child. We may buy the u. S. Version in the future. There are several versions, and they are not all the same. The game, risk, helped me remember where places were in europe and asia. This game will do that also. . My 3 older kids are 21, 24, and 26. They have talked about "gaming meet-ups" for a long time, but i never understood what they were until a visit to my 24 y/o's last fall. He sent me rules to a bunch of games before i went, to prepare me. Ticket to ride was one of them. I assumed we would be playing computer games. Nope. Apparently the 20-something crowd has taken board game parties to a new level. Meet-ups are loosely organized groups, arranged online, where people get together just to play board games. My 24 y/o and his girlfriend took me to a halloween party one in phoenix, complete with costumes. There were all kinds of people there, including college professors. Some of these people apparently become lifelong friends. They told me ticket to ride was one of the regular games they played. So it is up to snuff.

This game was introduced to us by a friend. It seemed a bit simplistic at the start but became quickly apparent that you need to think and plan your moves. Not nearly as heavy as some board games but definitely more to this than most. We love it! strategy is imperative as well as a little luck. Build your routes between cities and accrue valuable points to win.

Fun game for the family. It takes at least an hour. Great for adults, but you can make slight modification and the kids can play too. I've had an 8 and 6 y/o playing this game. The play is a little different than the original us cities version - you have tunnels and ferries to deal with. We initially played without that added degree of difficulty because frankly, i couldn't be bothered with reading the rules. We took out the longer routes so the little ones can complete more routes during the game. Great game for route planning, anticipating moves (like in chess), and interaction with other players. It's exciting to see the kids learn names of european cities, and have them recall the cities whenever it comes up in a conversation or on the radio. The cities are written in their native language: roma for rome, wien for vienna, for example. We'll look up the american name for the cities we don't know and find the cities on the world map. The learning extends beyond the game itself.

'gateway plus' because the 'europe' variant adds several new mechanisms that create a richer gameplay experience, while retaining most of the original's elegance. Players can take one of four actions on a turn - take train cards (to build routes in the future), take destination tickets (to acquire new points scoring objectives), claim routes by using the appropriate set of train cards (to score points and progress against objectives), or build a train station (to claim a route in alternate way). This simplicity allows the game to move at a very fast clip because players have usually chosen their action by the time their turns come around. . The addition of train stations, tunnels, and ferries add a light, but welcome layer of complexity. They also work well from a thematic point of view. Train stations offer additional flexibility. They mitigate the element of chance inherent to drawing destination tickets or being blocked off by an opponent, and they are almost necessary given that the european map is much less interconnected than its united states counterpart. Tunnels add an element of risk that forces players to think more about hand management. And ferries change the way players go about acquiring and using their locomotives. . It's little wonder that 'ticket to ride' games stand out as one of the most well-known and beloved gateway game series. For me, 'ticket to ride: europe' is superior to vanilla 'ticket to ride' in almost every way with significantly higher replay and engagement value. . Pros:. + retains most of the elegance and simplicity of vanilla 'ticket to ride'. + richer gameplay thanks to addition of new gameplay mechanisms. + players feel a sense of accomplishment even if they don't win. + moves at a fast clip; players quickly get into the groove of pre-planning their turn. + beautiful board game with high quality, colorful game components. + just enough strategy and optionality for a gateway game. + beats out the original in terms of replayability. . Cons:. - train and railroad theme is not for everyone. - location names can be difficult to read across the table. - luck of the draw can make a big impact in regards to destination tickets. - slightly more complicated than vanilla ticket to ride. - little player interaction outside seeking to block others. - works with 2, but not very well

Ticket to ride europe is an improved follow-up to the original ticket to ride. It improves upon the original by coming with standard-sized cards, by adding ferry and tunnel routes, and by adding train stations. It is a stand-alone spin off, so the original ttr is not required to play. . Much like the original ttr, ttr:europe involves claiming train routes to complete city-to-city destinations on destination tickets. On each turn, players have take one out of three possible actions:. - collect train cards (which are used to claim routes). - claim a route (by spending train cards). The routes score points as they are claimed, and their point value grows progressively with length: 1 length 1 point, 2 length 2 points, 3 length 4 points, 4 length 7 points, 6 length 15 points, 8 length 21 points). - take destination tickets (which give bonus points if you are able to complete the destination by the end of the game, but cost points if you are not able to complete). The player takes 3 destination cards and must keep at least one card, but has the option to reject up to two. The makes it a bit of a gamble - the player may get destination tickets they already have completed, or they may get destinations that are difficult to impossible to complete. The destinations can be close city connections worth a few points or cross continent connections worth 20 points. . Since each turn involves only one of three possible actions, the turns move very quickly and keep everyone engaged in the game. If you take your turn and get up to get a drink, it will usually be your next turn before you get back to the table. The scoring is fairly well balanced, and since you don't know what destinations other players have or haven't completed, the score can change dramatically at the end of the game. . Unlike the original ttr, there are two new route types that add a twist to the game. The first is the 'ferry' route. These are all 'any color' routes, but they take one or two locomotive (wild) cards to claim. The second is the 'tunnel' route. These are either a specific color or 'any color'. When a player wishes to claim a tunnel route, they state their intention and three train cards are drawn from the top of the deck. For each card that is the same color as the route, the player must add that many cards to complete the route, so it could cost anywhere from zero to three extra cards to build. If the player is unable to add enough cards to claim the route, the turn is over. . The other addition to the ttr:europe that is not in ttr:usa are the train stations. The train stations allow a player to use the route of another player in order to complete a destination ticket. These can prove very useful when the right cards aren't coming your way, or if a section of the board get clogged by other players. They come with a cost: 1 card to place the 1st, 2 cards to place the second, 3 cards to place the 3rd, and a 4 point penalty for each station placed at the end of the game. However, if the station helps to complete a route, the 4 point penalty is usually a worthwhile tradeoff. . Ttr:europe even has bit of educational value. The city names are in their local names, so moskow moskva, munich munchen, rome roma, vienna wien, etc. . If you are looking for a game to add to your game nights, consider ticket to ride europe. If you are on the fence between the usa version and the europe version, you'll be happier with the europe version.

This is a really great board game that appeals both to lifelong gamers as well as to new initiates into playing board games. This makes for a nice party game if you have a couple of friends over but can also be played with two people and is fun regardless of the number of players you have. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this with my significant other, who surprisingly really liked it. He is usually not a fan of board games especially if they have a complicated or confusing rule structure, but regardless of all of the rules of this game, he had a ton of fun and has gotten really into playing it. It is really easy to learn and after playing through one game, you will understand all of the rules. The ease of picking up this game makes it a really great family game as well since it is engaging enough to be interesting for kids or adults, although i would recommend this more for older kids who will understand the rule structure and who aren't young enough to try to put the pieces in their mouth since there is a choking hazard with the small train parts. This version of ticket to ride is largely similar to the original, but has a lot of new game mechanics that add an element of difficulty, but in a really fun way. One thing i like about this version of ticket to ride is that it is a standalone game rather than just an expansion which definitely justifies the purchase price. You don't need the original game to play this one. If you are vacillating between getting the original game or this version, i recommend this one since it adds new mechanics, but both games are really fun so if you want a truly comprehensive board game collection, either or both would be a purchase you won't regret.

I was contemplating between the u. S. Version and europe version. All the reviews kept saying there were only 3 extra renditions from the u. S. Version (europe has ferries, train stations, and tunnels). I tried reading the new rules that people were posting in their reviews and i ended up getting really confused. I bought the europe version anyway and didn't regret it at all. I got a couple of friends over to play and i read the directions about the new additions in the rule book over and over again. It was pretty confusing at first, but after reading it 10 times and trying to imagine it in my mind, my friends told me just to explain it to them in my own words and to demonstrate it with the board and pieces. After i demonstrated it to them, it made muchhhhh more sense. And then when other friends came to join in later, i explained the new rules to them and after the third time of explaining and demonstrating, everything made sense. The new additions make the game more fun and strategic, makes the game last longer, and it's not as cut throat as the u. S. One (if you don't complete a route, you can still complete it with a train station! no need to just give up in the middle of the game and troll people anymore! unless that's the purpose for why you love this game). Between the u. S. And europe versions, i would recommend the europe. Plus, you get to learn about another area in the world and you also get to laugh at your friends as they butcher all the names of the cities :)
