Review for tokaido board game out print

Price was 35.99. This is a great game for a family since a 5 year old and an adult can have an equal amount of fun. It is interesting to all ages and accessible. We are always looking for games that are inclusive of the youngest in the family but aren't ridiculously simple so that the other kids don't want to play. Catan was the first game to fit that bill (and if you get catan, don't bother with junior edition - full edition is just fine for "juniors", and tokaido is now another favorite in the house.

Best price compared to other hobby and gaming stores! the game is easy to learn and fun to play. The board is beautiful and so are all the character cards and pieces. It's awesome that there are different ways to win the game based on your character's story and abilities, but because the game plays so quickly, it can get bland with only 2 players. Wouldn't recommend playing with more than 4 people, even though you can play 5. Funforge Tokaido Board Game Out Of Print Edition Review (331379)

This is such a lovely game. I'm not a competitive person - or, rather, i am, but i get really ugly when i get into a competition setting. I get upset and basically go through the 5 stages of grief if i don't win. Not cute. Technically, you're still "competing" to have the "best" vacation, but it's in such a laid-back manner. I'd recommend it as stress-relief for sure. Even if you don't "win, " maybe you've still won. Look at all the paintings you've completed, food you got to try, hot springs you visited and friends you made. It's the first game i've found where i was able to be alright with losing. It's impossible to be in a bad mood while playing tokaido and it's made me want to seek out more laid-back, non-competitive, or cooperative board games. Opened up a whole new world to me. -G. Sandra

It's a simple game to play and my boys - 8 and 12 - enjoy it as well. They ask to play it - and it's not a video game! so that's a pretty clear win. . It took a few tries for them to get the idea that moving one or two spaces at a time is a bigger help at winning this game than big moves, which is very different from most games you play. I like that maybe, just maybe, i will be able to use this board game to help get across the idea of (figuratively) stopping to smell the roses in real life. Being as they are boys, it's more likely to be stopping to watch a turtle or frog than roses, but the idea is the same. . The artwork is beautiful, of course, and we are all learning a little bit more about another culture while we play. I really enjoy that it's not a competitive game. It's not really a co-op game, either. It's about each person's own choices. If i am almost out of money, i can choose to skip several experiences and go to the farm to earn money. Or i can take a chance on someone else getting to the farm first (blocking me from going there) and make a few stops to admire the scenery along the way. Either way, the outcome is on my decisions, not another person's decision.

Funforge Tokaido Board Game Out Print Edition
Click to see NoticeFunforge Tokaido Board Game Out Print Edition (331379)"Tokaido is a very simple board game in which players assume the roles of pilgrims traveling from kyoto to edo in ancient japan along the "east road". . Along the way they meet people, work to complete scenic panoramas, buy souvenirs, donate to temples and eat good food. Doing this earns points which are kept track of cribbage style as play progresses. . The movement scheme is very simple, and enables players to leverage advantage intuitively. It all takes about three minutes to pick up. . The components are sturdy cards and very thick, robust cardboard counters and plaques, all depicting high-quality art, and small wooden counters to track movement and points. The rulebook is comprehensive without being ponderous and you'll only need it for about two minutes in any game, if that. . The only downer is that moving the game in its box will result in everything scattering all over the place because although the box is easily big enough to hold all the components, the bubble-formed component tray is only just deep enough for the decks of cards. There's an additional half inch or so of headroom that could have been used to make the trays deeper and more trays could have been formed in the space available. This is beyond stupid and i simply can't fathom the decision that was taken. . Edit 2/2/16 took tokaido to florida for rainy evening entertainment and the pieces ended up escaping the box. I was so frustrated with the half-wit packing i tore out the plastic box insert and just bagged everything in ziploc baggies. Do yourself a favor and do the same before cards get lost from your set. Why the manufacturer couldn't have allowed for an extra half-inch of depth in the tray wells or gone the splendor route and packed the card decks in vertical slots instead of shallow trays is beyond me and beyond stupid, as i said. I'm making my own box insert as soon as i can. Edit . . Good for adults and kids over, say eight. . Update 4/8/14 when playing the two player variant the rules call for a third "robot" player piece that behaves predictably and that all stops have only one space available. My wife and i tried this variant and feel that the game becomes very boring - if a lot quicker to play. Our advice is to leave the number of spaces on each stop as for the multi-player variant. Takes more time but is more fun. /update"

Arcane Wonders Sheriff of Nottingham

This game was a hit at family game night! . . A truly rich experience - much richer than you'd think from reading the game's description. I had this on my to-buy list for over a year and always passed, thinking it looked, well, a bit boring. "i'm paying how much for this? to do what? put cards in a bag? " well gosh, was i wrong! . . This game is a hoot! a 100% grand-slam! i love it! here's some reasons why:. + repeated play with the same group isn't dull: players refine and switch up their strategy, leading to tense, comical game moments as someone is unexpectedly caught by a usually-lax sheriff who has decided to play hard ball, or as someone sneaks in tons of contraband who normally is honest. This sort of relationship within the game keeps things fresh and exciting, and players are eager to replay to implement new schemes. + the game is precisely as long as it needs to be, and never drags on: it ends at that happy point of "aww, i could've kept going! ", which many games don't know how to do anymore. This is one of those games that your group will say "let's play it again! " before the points are even tallied. + rich point-scoring system: this was a blast. Who will be the cheese queen? who had royal goods tucked away to blow out the scores? this keeps the game quite exciting! . + gorgeous art: i wasn't sold at first, personally, but after seeing the game in-person, i must admit, it's quite beautifully done and it really suits the mood. . If you're on the fence, if you're saying, "hey, why would i pay this much for a game about lying about cards in a little bag? what's the big deal? " let me tell you: you need this game, you will love this game, and you will slap yourself for not getting it sooner!

In sheriff of nottingham, players will take turns stepping into the shoes of the sheriff himself, while others act as merchants attempting to bring their goods into the city for profit! beware though, while many may act as honest merchants, there is always the possibility of contraband being smuggled into the city!

Arcane Wonders Sheriff of NottinghamArcane-Wonders-Sheriff-of-Nottingham

Sheriff Of Nottingham (Arcane Wonders) FAQ.

Our gaming group loves the social-deduction trend that has been sweeping the board game world recently (coup, resistance, werewolf etc). This is an interesting take on the genre which emphasizes players discussing with each other the specifics of what they are trying to bring to the market (or smuggle in! ) rather than the "hidden role" style. Putting one player in each round "in charge" is a great way to shake things up as each player will handle "their" round differently. You will find that your group builds meta layers of strategy the more you play (david never lies, but wait - he did this time! ). . If you like social deduction games, this will be hours of fun. -Notice from W. Mary, Rhone-Alpes

I have a small board game section in my variety store and when the price of this game dropped below my wholesale price, i ordered it to play with friends. We have experience playing the resistance: avalon so we already loved lying to each other. The lying/bribing/threatening aspect of the game adds humor and replay value to the game. The market bags with snap clasps were a nice touch but i can see that with many uses you may have some heavy handed or unavoidable snap failures. The artwork is quirky and finely executed and all the components seem to be of high quality. My only gripe is that one day there will be an expansion that extends the number of players to 6-7 instead of 3-5.

Sheriff-of-nottingham-(arcane-wonders) set picture

- E. AnonymousI'll jump straight in and say that i like this game a lot. With the right group of people this is an incredibly fun experience. It helps if you get into character! however, the thing that knocks a star off for me is that i personally prefer games that aren't solely based on the deception element. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy stabbing people in the back (i love the game of thrones board game, for example), but i found that after a while this game can get a little repetitive. However it's beautifully presented, the artwork and the equipment you get is of a high quality. This is a great game for people who want to move past the traditional board game collection and expand their horizon.

This game is a fantastic way to start or end a game night. Best with 4-5 people. Best if the people playing are a fun group, and are willing to not take the game too seriously. Games take 40-60 minutes, depending on the number of players. . There is no perfect strategy. You can be honest all the time and collect points with your legit goods, or try to amp up your score be sneaking in higher-value contraband. If you're caught, it hurts your wallet. If you get away with it, everyone knows, and that plays into how people deal with you in the future. . There are many nuances. You can bribe the sheriff into letting you pass with your cargo without an inspection, to get some contraband past him. You can attempt to bribe the sheriff, hoping he will inspect your legit cargo, and pay you for his mistrust. Everyone takes turns being the sheriff, and making tough decisions. Can you read the other players real intentions? they might lie to get you to do what they want. . You can play an honest merchant the whole game, and then switch to dishonest for big points when the sheriff doesn't expect it. But maybe he's thinking the same thing about your tactics. What will he do? will he inspect your cargo, or let you pass without an inspection? would a "donation" to his re-election campaign streamline the process, or raise suspicion and cause an inspection? make your move, and live with the consequences. It's a riot. . With 4 types of goods available, everyone is trying to be the 1 or 2 merchant in some of them, to earn bonus points. It pays to stock up on one or two of them, and ignore the rest.

Renegade Game Studios Lanterns: The Harvest Festival

Wonderful game! this is something everyone in the family can enjoy. It's one of the first few games we introduce new gamers to, and was one of the ones my parents played and immediately had to have. It's easy to teach, turns are simple, but there's a strong element of planning and strategy involved. . It is similar to dominoes with the added elements of cards, "favor tokens", and victory points in the form of dedication rewards. The main premise is to match the color on the tile you're laying to the color on a tile already on the table, but you'll sometimes want to try to match a certain color because you need that card. For example, if you match a white to a white on the side that is facing you, you'd get 2 white cards. If you already have 2 red and 2 blue, you'd now have enough to turn in a dedication of 3 pair. On the other hand, if you match a white on the opposite side and have a purple facing you, you'd get 1 white and 1 purple, which might finish out your 7 unique.

Place tiles, adorn the palace lake, and dedicate lanterns in this beautiful, fast-paced board game set in imperial china. 36 lake tiles 56 lantern cards 20 engraved wood favor tokens 30 dedication tokens 1 custom wooden fishing boat rulebook the harvest is in, and now it's time to celebrate! lanterns: the harvest festival is a tile- placement game set in imperial china. Players act as artisans decorating the palace lake with floating lanterns. The artisan who earns the most honor before the festival arrives wins the game. On your turn, you can take these three actions one time each: place a lake tile, which gives every player (even your opponents! ) a lantern card based on the orientation of the tile. (it also could give the active player bonus lantern cards or favor tokens, depending on the placement. ) spend favor tokens to trade one lantern card for another. Dedicate sets of lantern cards to gain the honor you need to win the game.

Renegade Game Studios Lanterns: Harvest Festival (00502rgs) FAQ.

Lanterns plays sort of like dominoes. You place tiles and get cards if you match colors and get bonus cards for the color that points to you (downwards). There is a good amount of strategy as you get points for getting one of each color, 3 two of a kinds or 1 set of four of a kind. Once a color card runs out, you can place tiles to prevent others from getting a free card. I'm doing a terrible job of explaining this game, so i would recommend checking out board game geek or your favorite youtube video of how its played. . Very chill vibe. Game doesn't last too long with 2 players. Can't wait to play with more people as i see how it could get a little more competitive. . Great for couples looking for a light game. -Notice from S. Paige, District of Columbia

It s not rare for me to like a game. I like lots of games, tons of games. I have so many games i like i rarely get to play as many as i d like in a given month, week or game night. So imagine my dismay at finding yet another game to like. It s a good, no it s a great problem to have. Lanterns looked good to me before i ever got my copy. The rules are tight, the game looked fun and i really loved the theme. So rather than bury the lead any more, here s the quick scoop. This game is really good for a 20-30 minute game. Good enough that i have no problem recommending it. In fact, i m going to make a comparison in a further down that may surprise you. Enough! on to the review. . Lanterns is a tile laying, color matching, set collection game for 2-4 players, which takes about 20-30 minutes to play. I don t know what the ages are officially but i can say without hesitation that my 9 year old wiped me off the table. Twice. And the second time i was really trying to win! . . Game play. . This game really has only three things in it you re trying to do, but it lends itself to a decent amount of strategy for a 30 minute game. First, each player has three lake tiles representing the lanterns of different colors floating on the water. The last action you ll take on your turn is to place one tile, resolve the effects and then draw another tile. This continues until all tiles are drawn and placed, which causes the game to end. . As players place tiles, they collect sets of lantern cards matching the colors on these tiles. They can then dedicate sets of lanterns and exchange them for dedication tokens points. Here s how this works during your turn. . First, players can choose to use favor tokens they acquired in previous turns. Players get these by interacting with lake tiles that have platforms on them (the center tile in the image above). Two favor tokens can be used to exchange one lantern card for another. Why would you do this? because you re striving to collect sets of lantern cards. . If you have four of a kind of any of the seven different colored lantern cards, you can dedicate them and collect the top red dedication token. If you have three pairs you can collect the top blue dedication token. If you have one of each of the seven colors, you get the top green dedication tokens. These tokens each start with 8, 9 and 10 respectively and the numbers go down as players obtain them. This is what you use to get your end-game points. . Lastly on your turn, you must place one of your lake tiles. It has to be adjacent to another lake tile (one starts the game off) and this allows you to collect a lantern card based on the color facing you. That s kind of cool. Each other player also collects a lantern card based on the color facing them that means that every turn, each player gets to do something, which is always a good thing in my book. If you happen to match any two colors (white with white say) even if that color is not on your side of the tile, you also get a lantern card of that color. That is where the bulk of the strategy comes into play. You want to help yourself as much as possible but also face the fact that every tile you play also helps your opponents in some way. If you place a tile with a platform, or place a tile adjacent to another tile with a platform, you get to collect a favor token. . My thoughts. . Here s that comparison i promised. While the mechanics are a bit different and feature a directional component, this game very much reminds me of splendor in complexity, strategy and that general feeling. I know, right? . . I ve played both games an equal amount of time and i ve gained equal enjoyment from them both. Lanterns makes a nice pattern during game play which makes it visually appealing. It does have the tile laying aspect which appeals to a certain set of gamers just because it is what it is. Strategically your using pattern matching to plan ahead and acquire the sets of lantern cards you need to collect to turn in for points. Sounds fairly simple, but ends up with a bit of complexity as the game goes on. I found myself holding my tiles up in front of me and turning them about, looking for the perfect match to help me the most and benefit my daughter the least. I failed in that, but had a great time doing it. This might lead to a bit of analysis paralysis in those who are prone to such things, but nothing like a lightweight euro would. . Bottom line. . I like this game, as i said at the beginning of this review. I like it enough that i m actively planning on playing it more. It s a great filler style game, which would be perfect for my occasional lunch time work group. Also great for a game or two before my kids have to go to bed.

Renegade-game-studios-lanterns:-harvest-festival-(00502rgs) set picture

- E. TheolaLanterns is a beautiful, light tile layer that my wife really enjoys (good thing, i bought it specially for her! ). The strategy is not brain-burning at all, but the set collection makes for a fun competition as you try to grab the honor tokens for more points. In two players it's a bit deterministic and if you can stay ahead of the other player you will always be grabbing the more valuable tokens. Still enjoyable: a nice mix of tokaido and carcassonne (two of our favorite gateways). . I'd be interested to play with four players, and especially three, as i feel the increased competition for tiles makes for a much stronger game. Recommended, looking forward to more plays.

Lanterns is an abstract tile-placement game with wide appeal. It's essentially a set-collector in which you trade in combinations of colored cards to score points. (each color has a unique pattern to assist with color-blind players). You acquire certain colors of cards by placing tiles in a particular orientation, adjacent to other tiles. Sides of adjacent tiles don't have to match, but if they do you receive extra cards. Very easy to learn and play, and you'll finish a game in about 12-15 minutes per player. . Easy as it is to play, strategy fans will find enough depth to consider lanterns a midweight game. Point values for particular sets of cards diminish as the game progresses. For example, the first time a player trades in 4-of-a-kind, they will receive more points than the third player to do it. The market for each type of card is limited. Cards in possession are not hidden from other players. A particular orientation of a tile you place might give you a color you want, but also give another player a card that enables them to complete a set. . The art design is pleasant, meant to represent a top-down view onto a lake during an evening fireworks display (the starting tile shows a person in a rowboat). The wooden favor tokens are stamped in red with kanji that i can't read, but probably matches some hipster's inner-arm tattoo. The non-textured cards are average quality, and they are frequently handled. Consider sleeving them if you will play often. Handle the cardboard tiles carefully to avoid tearing the graphics on the back, since unlike the cards, the tiles in your hand are hidden. . Another game that i really enjoy which i find similar to lanterns is splendor. Both have a small footprint, a limited market that replenishes, shorter length of play, scales well from 2-4 players, very few rules to grok, but with an economy of decisions that subtly affect the final outcome. Personally, i consider these to be two of the best abstract games of recent years, and you can play both in the same amount of time as one game of settlers of catan or ticket to ride.

The F.A.Q. for funforge tokaido board game out of print edition

The first time i saw this game i thought it looked kind of boring. I was browsing in our local game shop and it looked beautiful but as i read it i decided it wasn't for me. I like games that have strategy and competition. This seemed a little too nice for our board game nights so i passed on it a few times. Finally i saw that it was only sale here on online store and figured that i would give it a go. It had amazing reviews and i had heard from a few friends that they had loved to play it so i went ahead and bought it. I can't be more pleased that i did either! this game is now one of our go to games for game nights. It is a great starter game since it generally only lasts about 45 minutes so in terms of board games it's relatively short and it's the type of game that everyone, no matter their age, can enjoy and really get into. . This is the most zen cut throat game i have ever played in my life! it is a game that is very focused on screwing over anyone who is not you and that makes it competitive and great for a board game night! you travel down a road in the feudal era of japan and as you travel you can stop at various locations. You can paint landscapes in nature, take a dip in a hot springs, pick up a fellow traveling companion, stop at a shrine, go to a shopping market, or go to a farm house. The whole point of the game is to use you specific character to try to get as many points as possible. Some characters get extra points for picking up travelers so they will always try to pick up more travelers. If you want to stop them from doing so though you simply put your character on the marker and that forces them to move ahead and skip it over. At the end of each day you stop at an inn and draw food cards and then continue on your journey the next day. This game is simple, beautiful, and has a ton of replay-ability. Personally i think it is a great addition to anyone's game collection that loves board games!

As someone who considers themselves a gamer on every level - from card games, to video games, to board games - this game exceeded my expectations. In fact, i never even had expectations to begin with, since a couple of friends introduced me to it during a get-together. Needless to say, i was hooked. . The gameplay:. Relying not on cutthroat competitive mechanics, it instead rewards those with patience and calm. This was a key element of the game for me, which really made it stand out from others in the genre. Having a multitude of different characters to choose from (albeit semi-random) increases replayability and experimentation with the various "perks" each character comes with. The rules are fairly straightforward, however since the concept is not a "race to the finish", it can be confusing for new, inexperienced gamers at first. But trust me, after one game under your belt, the rest will be a breeze. The designers did a great job of balancing the mid-game with the end-game. As the saying goes, "it's not over 'til the fat sumo sings" (is that how it goes? ), because you don't always have a clear winner until the final points are tallied. . The art:. It's pretty rare for board games to be praised for artwork, but this game is gorgeous to look at! the colors are bright, yet not overly saturated to make your eyes bleed. It sticks close to the japanese theme, even down to the physical coins which look like the old form of currency called "mon". All of the characters are stylized and unique. It's a treat to complete panoramic scenes, and even the food cards make you drool. Another piece of sushi, please! . . Conclusion:. Whether you're a hardcore gamer, or a casual player, this game is a ton of fun. It really delivers on the promise to give you the sense of adventure and journey. Meet people, buy souvenirs, enjoy a hot meal, take a bath. You decide! . I especially recommend it for fans of japanese culture.

This game can be a lot of fun. The rules are fairly simple and the gameplay moves pretty quickly. I upgraded my copy with some cheap asian coins that i got off of online store for very little money. I think they were called "good luck coins" or something. I feel it helps add to the theme of the game.

This is a great game for people who are not especially fond of complicated systems or just want to do something simple for a sitting. Now i say this as someone who really like agricola, zombicide, and can't wait to break into caverna and give eldritch horror another whirl as well. I enjoy complicated games, but this beautiful, simplistic but difficult to win because you're having to work around the other travelers on the road (aka other players). I love that there are roles/different characters to play. Visually, the cards are easy to identify and really are the only random element to the game (no dice here). I cracked open the manual ahead of time, and referred to it as we played. I doubt i would need to read the manual again after a couple more play throughs; my guests picked up the game fairly quickly as well.

I am new to the tabletop gaming world but already have a fairly large collection as i continue to add more and more games. This was just recently added to that collection and it was worth every penny. What a fun and beautiful game. The instructions are very easy to follow and the game itself is very straight forward (not much wording on the board or game cards, mostly numbers and images). . My boyfriend and i have already played this about 10 times and keep coming back for more. . The one con that i can see is that it's simplistic game style, which surprisingly keeps us entertained (in our 20's) could also be its downfall. After playing it so many times you can kind of figure out what strategy is going to be best for each character card so it becomes a little predictable. Tokaido does have an expansion now though (i do not have but plan to get) that really seems to give depth to the game. I won't go into the expansion here but i recommend buying that with this game to add continued playability (and fun! ) later.

Tons of fun for whole family! we love the whole concept, to win by enjoying experiences rather than by the usual cutthroat strategies. This is a gorgeous game, and the artwork just makes you savor the experience even more. Love all the characters and their various strengths, which are consistent with their personas (the old man gains extra points by stopping at the hot springs, the orphan gets a free meal, etc). Also love that the bonus points at the end can create last minute upsets. I recommend watching the how-to video (look it up on youtube) if you are curious. We were die hard catan players, but now that game is gathering dust while we spend family time with tokaido. Very very happy with this purchase!

On its surface, "tokaido" is a game where each player takes the role of a traveler and your goal is to simply have the most enjoyable trip possible. When you open the box though, the sheer amount of pieces, cards, and various components and the complicated board can give the impression that you journey will be anything but enjoyable - but there lies the deception of "tokaido". Once pieces are set and cards are sorted, by the second turn, "tokaido" becomes a game that is second nature to any player. The clever and simple movement rules (last player on the path always goes first, and the players can only, ever, move forwards towards the end - never passing an inn) to the beautifully designed board and wonderful artwork of the pieces. . "tokaido" is a game that fans of "ticket to ride", "carcassonne", or similar should check into, who are looking to get further into the hobby but still want a game that isn't all that complicated. The game features lots of replayability, through playing different travelers and the various ways players can earn points in the game, which allows strategies to become varied with repeated games. . Fans of "tokaido" should also check out "tokaido crossroads", the first expansion to "tokaido", that adds more strategy of interesting new aspects to the base game - perfect for those ready to go even further. . Of interest, may also be "takenoko", from the designer of "tokaido", antoine bauza.

A relaxing, somewhat counter-intuitive, board game that actually rewards you for being in last place (most of the time). This game is very simple to understand and so it is a good fit for those who love board games and those who aren't so keen on them, young and old. The artwork on this board and the cards is very nice, and adds to the feel of the game. It's a good change of pace from more intense games like pandemic and break the safe. This game does involve some degree of strategy, especially if you use the character cards. However, it is not very complicated strategy. For a deeper game (mostly for board game addicts) we'd recommend buying an expansion or two. Definitely not bad to play by itself though!

N. Williams, Gateshead

Wasn't sure what to expect, as we play a lot of the currently popular table top games; betrayal at house on the hill, pandemic, netrunner, battlestar galactica, dead of winter, etc. We've ended up loving this game. Nothing in american games to compare it with. If you are into japanese "things", get the collectors edition with the japanese background music to keep everybody in the mood. Awesome game. I believe it would make a really great "family night" type of game as well as there is no sex, violence, or offensive language built into the game. Can't vouch for the individual players, though.

S. Stacey, West Sussex says

It took my teen daughter and i two times of playing through it to really get the flow of the game (firs time through we were lost, second time we 'got it'). I will say the two player rules are a bit of a challenge to grasp but it is a fun game of strategy (trying to block others, get the spots you want, when and where to spend your coins and making sure you don't run out of coins. While getting to the end of the board is not the 1 priority). That being said even my 5 yo boy was able to grasp it and asks to play.

I. Nielsen, California

My girlfriend usually hates board games and i've been searching for something to break her into the hobby. Tokaido seemed perfect and she said she would play, so i went for it. The game art is amazing in this game! i really can't say enough about that alone. The gameplay is super simple and easy to teach. I was able to show my girlfriend how to play very quickly and easily enough for her to end up winning at the end of our first game! it's rare to find a board game with an objective of whoever has the "best" time traveling between two cities wins. My girlfriend and family really enjoy this game. So far, i've only got the chance to play with the 2 player scenario with a 3rd "game controlled" player. I hope to get a bigger group and see how much the strategy changes. With more people, more competition for spaces happens and it definitely changes the flow of the game. If you want a quick, easy, and amazing looking game for your group, i highly recommend this one.

V. Megan, Southend-on-Sea says

This is one of the best games i have played! the game is beautifully displayed with authentic looking japanese art. You play as one of many different characters, each have a special, specific bonus as you play. You could play in so many different way depending on your character and what your end goal is. Everyone we have played this with have loved it from my 8 year old daughter to my dad and all of my friends. I highly recommend this game if you like beautiful strategy games.

C. Barbara, Westminster

Tokaido is absolutely one of my favorite board games ever. First, its illustrations, design, and overall presentation is one of the most visually stunning out there when it comes to board games. If i had to choose one victor amongst the others, tokaido easily wins the most aesthetically pleasing. The multiplayer game is extremely easy to understand, follow, and play. Essentially, each player is a traveler in japan and whoever collects the most cultural victory points wins the game. For such a simple game, there is a surprising amount of strategies and plays that can be utilized. Most games i've played lasted between 30-45 minutes. The crossroads expansion also adds a whole other dimension to the base game. . I highly recommend this game to anyone! it's one of my favorite things that i own.

A. Jennifer, Michigan says

Tokaido has been a game quickly gaining popularity in my house, especially with people who are not usually willing to sit down for a lengthy board game. The graphics are beautiful and the rules are straightforward. I have only played with 4 people but can't wait to add a 5th (and even try it with 2 players! ). As good as the game is, the customer service that comes along with it has been surprisingly wonderful. I had a minor discrepancy and the seller set it right immediately and professionally. When looking for another game i will certainly look here first before exploring other options. . Enjoy tokaido and the wonderful customer service ease of mind that comes along with it!

O. Shawna, Gloucestershire

This is my absolute most favorite game at the moment. It is visually stunning. Everything appears really cute and extremely well done. It has a lot of mechanics while retaining simplicity. The general idea of the game can be picked up pretty quickly, but you will likely be referencing the rulebook as you play for the various character abilities or certain card meanings. The 2 player variant is still really fun, so whether you are playing with 2 or 5 people, it will be fun no matter what!
