Imhotep Builder of Egypt Board Game

Great game. Once you get used to rules it is a fun game. My 14 year old son likes it a lot

Imhotep. The legendary architect of the egyptian monuments. His awe-inspiring structures and brutal tactics earned him divine status among ancient egyptians. Can you match his ruthless determination to build the most revered monuments? to do this, you will need to transport stone blocks on ships from your quarry to different construction sites. But you alone do not choose where the ships go. Your opponents have monumental plans of their own and want to prevent your success. A fierce competition for the precious stone resources plays out. Only with the right strategy and a little luck can you succeed. In imhotep, the players take on the roles of ancient egyptian architects. Over six rounds, they try to transport their stone blocks to end up in the most valuable positions at five construction sites: pyramid, obelisk, chamber tomb, temple, and market. But a player can only choose one of three actions in a turn: excavate a new stone block from the quarry, load a block onto a ship, or move a ship to a construction site. From there, the massive stone blocks must be unloaded in order from bow to stern and placed on the sites in preset sequences. Depending on where the blocks end up, players earn different point values either immediately or at the end of the game. In each turn, you must weigh your options for getting your own stones into place and thwarting your opponents' placement plans. You must get your blocks to the right places, in the right order, at the right time to be the greatest architect.

Good game. I give it this rating after 1 play. I could see the rating going up after future plays. This is a different style game with, what i would think would be, new game mechanics for most. -Notice from Z. Anonymous, Oregon

Super fun game! i really like this game. It is quite simple in concept but really deep in gameplay. This game was a spiel des jahres (game of the year) award nominee for 2016 and though it didn't win i really feel that it should have. Such a fun game. The components are stellar, nice chunky cubes, solid cardboard tiles, and solid finish cards. The game itself revolves around simple decisions on ones turn they may, get more blocks, place blocks, or move boats. But those simple decisions can be extremely important. Boats can be shipped to one of several destinations and those locations will then score immediately, end of game, or end of round as specified. Scoring can be a bit fiddly however, the components are extremely well marked and with a minor amount of background knowledge one could probably play this game without even reading the rules. Scoring for tiles is clearly labeled on the tiles. I also feel that the game moves quickly and games are over in a flash making it easy to play another round or another game during game nights. . This one is a real home run!

Fury of Dracula Third Edition Board Game

The most notorious vampire of all rises again in this third edition of fury of dracula, a board game of deduction and gothic horror based on bram stoker's classic novel. One player takes control of the legendary count dracula as he stealthily crosses victorian-era europe, spreading his diabolical vampirism everywhere he goes. Up to four other players govern mina harker and her determined companions as they try to locate and destroy the fiendish count before he plunges europe into horrific darkness. But in this heated game of cat and mouse, the hunted prey may also be preying on his hunters. Any day's travel might bring the hunters to dracula's location. On any night the count may attack. This edition features all-new art and graphic design crafted to complement the game's intuitive, thematic mechanics. Rounds are now broken into day and night: hunters take actions during both, but dracula can only act at night. Combat is now more streamlined and decisive, and new rumor tokens allow dracula to mislead hunters and extend the terrible reach of his influence. Count dracula triumphs if he advances his influence track to thirteen; if the hunters can defeat him before then, they save the continent of europe and win the game.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong

This game has the potential to be in every gaming circle. The resistance + mysterium + maybe a bit of code names. I appreciate that being the bad guy isn't as draining as maybe in the resistance or similar hidden role games because you're not convincing people you are good, you are explaining why somebody else's items make sense. My first time putting it on the table in a group of six and we played 5 rounds before i put it up so we didn't burn out on it! . The only negative is wish the evidence/clue cards were bigger. They can be hard to read. Also the price seems to be going up and down here on online store (i paid $33 and right now it's $38). Overall maybe my favorite hidden roles game!

In deception: murder in hong kong, players find themselves in a scenario of intrigue and murder, deduction and deception. One player is the murderer, secretly choosing their weapon and the evidence they leave behind. Another is the forensic scientist who holds the key to convicting the criminal but is only able to express their knowledge through analysis of the scene. The rest are investigators, interpreting the clues to solve the crime and the killer is among them.

Deception: Murder in Hong KongDeception-Murder-in-Hong-Kong

Deception: Murder In Hong Kong (Grey Fox Games) FAQ.

*update*. Kids on christmas break played no less than 20 rounds of this game and didn't want to stop. Next day, they asked if we could play again. My 18yr old, who is ultra competitive, even wanted to play. Why he would like this, is because the player interaction outweighed any frustrations he may have with having to wait on people to make a decision. Raising the review a star because they really, really like it! . . By the way, out of 20 games, our group of five players (ages 12 to 40-something) only won once as the investigators. The murderer won ever time. The success of the investigators hinges primarily on the forensic scientist (most difficult role to play) in guiding the investigators as best as possible. . In a six player game you now add in the roles of accomplice and witness. Our investigators won 60% of the time, thanks to the witness. . . Overview:. Reprint of csi files, which i never played but have heard good things about. Initial concept is similar to mafia, werewolf, ect. Where you are using deduction to guess the identify of someone. . One person is the forensic scientist and one is the murder. These are the must-have roles. You may have the optional witness or an accomplice, depending on number of players. Most of the cards are all the different causes of death. . The forensic scientist will use tiles to give the other players clues (without talking) by putting markers on the tiles. Everyone gets 30-seconds to talk and then a tile is removed and replaced with another tile. This keeps going on until someone spends a token to guess the murderer and players win or murder wins if the guesses are wrong. . Components:. Excellent quality components on tiles, cards and token markers. . Theme:. The added asian symbols makes this feel like i'm an american detective in hong kong working with the other detectives trying to solve the crime. . The team of detectives (players) are simply "reading" the forensic scientist's report and between that and the conversation it feels like the group is really working together to solve the crime. Plus there is the murderer who is a mole in the group. . Learning curve:. Super easy to teach anyone. So easy in fact i guess you could treat this as a gateway game, which means it is easy to introduce to non-gamers and they should be able to have fun without getting overwhelmed by a bunch of rules. . Other notes:. When it is the forensic scientist's turn, they have to keep a straight face through the whole thing or they give away too much information. . When everyone has their heads down and the forensic scientist asks the murder to reveal themselves and point out the causes of death, it really is difficult in these games for folks not to hear or feel the person next to them moving. So people need to be careful and quiet when playing the murderer. . Overall:. This is not exactly my cup-of-tea, but i do like it and have fun. I'm more a 3-4hrs armies battling game kind of guy or tabletop roleplaying game if i was to pick my favorite type of game to play. Maybe i should not ding the review a star, but that's just how i feel about it. . . Right now. . On the other hand, my kids love. Just love playing mafia or werewolf at youth group and this is yet another game they are enjoying adding to the mix. It is a good party game, but requires people who won't cheat, which is why the age requirement is a bit higher than maybe expected (plus the theme has to do with murder). Overall, we really like this and it joins the other 200 games we have on our shelf. . Two-thumbs-up! -Notice from W. Janice, Doncaster

Really quickly became the game my group plays the most! it's a great game that brings good deduction mechanics and most importantly a big laughs&funs! . I played about 10 games so far (6ppl & 4ppl) and here are my impressions:. - it's really fast (15-30 depending on no. Of players) and non gamers can easily pick up and also be really good at this game. - i love the components and its quality. Though i still used card sleeves to protect the role cards. If murderer card has some distinct damage or fold it will kill the game. - it's easy to swap away your forensic scientist role without affecting the game (if you don't like the role). - murderer has much less pressure compared to other games like resistance. It's really hard to tell who the murderer is from their behaviours as everyone's cards would match some of clues given. Also guessing the murderer won't finish the game as you have to guess the 2 cards completely correctly. So it's much more proper deduction than sniffing out the bad guy(s) which i really like about the game. - i would say it's slightly easier for murderer to win. It's mainly because some of the clue tiles cannot help to guess some cards at all (e. G. Weapon is a poison and clue tile is weather). And you only get to change 2 clue tiles only. - definitely would be more fun with large number of players (i think 6-8 would be perfect). I really really really hope to see an expansion for this game as there are good room for improvements such as adding more cards, roles, events, mechanics. I am not saying this game is not great yet but i can see that it can become even greater game with more stuff. Please make an expansion !

Deception:-murder-in-hong-kong-(grey-fox-games) set picture

- P. VeronicaThis game feels like clue without all the moving around on the board. Its a fantastic logic game where you talk with the other players to try to deduce the murder scenario that has taken place based on clues provided by the forensic scientist while the murderer tries to mislead the group. . Great replay value, and everyone i've played with has enjoyed it. I recommend at least 4 people to fully enjoy the game. . Pros:. -fun discussions. -fun for bigger groups. -easy to introduce. . Cons:. -a bit unbalanced against the murderer, as they rarely win when i've played. -might not be good for quiet/shy people, as it requires lots of discussion

This has been a no fail game for any group i've brought it to, whether or not they were experienced board gamers. This is the kind of game that your friends will ask you to break out again the next time they come over. We love all trying to put the murder into a narrative and telling each other how we think it happened. Everyone has these elaborate stories because there are lots of clues, some of which matter and some of which do not. The best way to weed out the clues that don't matter is to work in all the clues into murder story, and see which clues change in the next round. This way, the climax of the game is not like the anti-climactic board game clue, where you would say, "i think john committed the murder with the scarf and left behind the playing card. " it's more like, "ok, i think john was playing a high stakes game of poker in an abandoned factory with someone he met on craigslist. Everyone was dressed warmly because the factory did not have good heating. After winning a big hand, his opponent attempted to argue his way out of paying the debt. There was a scuffle, and in a fit of rage, he strangled the deadbeat to death with his own scarf. " these stories are the highlight of the game. It's the best when the murderer has a really good alternative story that the other players buy into, and after he gets away with the murder, everyone goes back to the clues and realizes how they were duped.

Tiny Epic Galaxies

Tiny epic galaxies is driven by an exciting dice-rolling mechanic that rewards thoughtful programming of the results. Players control a home planet and a series of space ships within their own personal galaxy. As players upgrade their galaxies they gain access to more ships and more dice. Each turn, a player will roll a set of dice, how many dice are rolled is determined by the level of that player's galaxy. Each side of the die (6 sided) represents a different type of action: movement, colony action, harvest from culture planets, harvest from energy planets, improve an economic influence, improve a diplomatic influence. After the roll, the player then sorts the results of the roll (one selective re-roll is allowed) and organizes the dice in a desired activation order. Each die, in order, is then resolved and the results are immediate! this gets very exciting, as it allows the player to pull-off unseen combos and surprise other players. But don't fret! other players have the option to copy other player's actions. At a cost! in addition to upgrading galaxies, effective resource management provides luck-mitigating options that can sway the game in a calculated player's favor. As players expand their galaxy by colonizing other planets through economic and diplomatic influence, they gain victory points and the special powers brought in by those planets! you are the ruler of your galaxy and there are no limits to your expansion!

Blood Rage

In blood rage, each player controls their own viking clanÍs warriors, leader, and ship. Ragnar k has come, and itÍs the end of the world! itÍs the vikingsÍ last chance to go down in a blaze of glory and secure their place in valhalla at odinÍs side! for a viking there are many pathways to glory. You can invade and pillage the land for its rewards, crush your opponents in epic battles, fulfill quests, increase your clan's stats, or even die gloriously either in battle or from ragnar k, the ultimate inescapable doom. Most player strategies are guided by the cards drafted at the beginning of each of the three game rounds (or ages). These ñgodsÍ giftsî grant you numerous boons for your clan including: increased viking strength and devious battle strategies, upgrades to your clan, or even the aid of legendary creatures from norse mythology. They may also include various quests, from dominating specific provinces, to having lots of your vikings sent to valhalla. Most of these cards are aligned with one of the norse gods, hinting at the kind of strategy they support. For example, thor gives more glory for victory in battle, heimdall grants you foresight and surprises, tyr strengthens you in battle, while the trickster loki actually rewards you for losing battles, or punishes the winner. Players must choose their strategies carefully during the draft phase, but also be ready to adapt and react to their opponentsÍ strategies as the action phase unfolds. Battles are decided not only by the strength of the figures involved, but also by cards played in secret. By observing your opponentÍs actions and allegiances to specific gods, you may predict what card they are likely to play, and plan accordingly. Winning battles is not always the best course of action, as the right card can get you even more rewards by being crushed. The only losing strategy in blood rage is to shy away from battle and a glorious death!

Five Tribes

Crossing into the land of 1001 nights, your caravan arrives at the fabled sultanate of naqala. The old sultan just died and control of naqala is up for grabs! the oracles foretold of strangers who would maneuver the five tribes to gain influence over the legendary city-state. Will you fulfill the prophecy?  invoke the old djinns, move the tribes into position at the right time and the sultanate may become yours!   designed by bruno cathala, five tribes is a bit more of a "gamers' game" than days of wonder's standard fare.  the game builds on a long tradition of german games with wooden maples in a unique twist on the worker placement game genre. While the rules are quite easy to learn and understand, implementing a winning strategy will take a calculated approach.  in this worker displacement game, you score by carefully maneuvering the five tribes of maples over the tiles that make up the ancient city-state of the sultanate of naqala. You need to look ahead to determine what moves will not only position you to score well, but put your opponents at a disadvantage. It's when, how and where you dis-place the five tribes of assassins, elders, builders, merchants & viziers that will determine your victory or failure!   included are: 30 game tiles depicting the sultanate of naqala; a bag of 90 wooden maples with yellow viziers, red assassins, green merchants, blue builders and white elders; palm trees, palaces and camels; 22 jinn cards; 54 resource cards, plus 5 djinns, victory coins, scoring pad summary sheets and rules booklet.

This is my all time favorite game i just love the art and quality of the game and of coarse the way it plays is marvelous. Very well balanced 2 player. I have yet to play it 3 or 4 player i'm worried that it may get overly busy but idk.

A number of questions have been asked here.

Great game to play. If you have played lord's of waterdeep, this game will be easy to learn. My husband and i played it 3 times in a 12 hour period. This game is multifaceted and requires some strategy but a great family game! if you like to play board games, i would highly recommend this one.

A fantastic game that scales very well with different numbered groups. . Only issue i have with it is that it has great art for the "wood" and "food" resources on the board, but the game pieces for "wood" and "food" are terrible, tiny, wood cubes. Everything else in the game is beautiful and i would gladly pay more for "wood" and "food" pieces that match the board artwork.

Q. Edith, Picardie

Great worker placement game. Viking themed which adds to the game. Plus battling by rolling dice. There are items in the game that help you with the randomness you get from dice rolling. Only plays up to four and as of now, i believe there is no expansion. Still, this is a very fun game that i would recommend to anyone. The game is very easy to learn even though it looks overwhelming, players will understand the flow of the game after a round or two. There are many different ways players can go about the strategy they plan on using each round, which adds to the games repeatability. Plus each player gets a viking character that gives them a special ability.

V. Gina, Baden-Wuerttemberg says

Awesome gateway game with a good viking theme. This is a worker-placement game. Good components. Easy to learn and easy to play. Even for my kids. . Hey grey fox, please have expansions for this!

O. Guest, Essex

Great game for people that like worker placement games, but that also want an extra level to the game mechanics. Most worker placement games can lose an edge of excitement due to being "solvable". The added aspect of dice rolling to defeat monsters gives the player a higher level of investment than just collecting resources to trade back in to complete a task. . Pros. -game piece quality. -art work. -game play style. -space in the box for all game pieces. . Cons. -max of 4 players (this is situational, depending on the size of your gaming group)

Overview:. 8 rounds. Place workers during a round and get the action of that spot. Just like lords of waterdeep (lowd) or stone age. Random buildings each game to take actions and/or collect resources. . Where it is different. . . Your meeples can be set to go battle. There are land battles and sea battles. Sea battles have a lot more going on and can be more exciting with random events and greater rewards. . If your meeple takes damage the meeple loses a die for each damage taken. If your meeple wins the battle, then they get the glory points for that monster. . Goal of the game is to get the most glory by the end of the 8th round. There are quest/mission cards that give you bonus points at the end of the game too. . Each player has a character card that gives them a special ability/bonus, just like the lords in lowd. . Components:. + tiles were nice and sturdy cardboard, with nice artwork. The cards are nice with great artwork. Though for me, some of the colors are all the same muted look, so i had to look more closely at what the card color symbols were at times. + rulebook is nice and colorful, with clear pictures for buildings, cards, and clear explainations. - no room in box to add much of any expansion parts, if/when an expansion is available. This means that any expansions will require to keep in the expansion box versus merge with this box. . Theme:. This is where the game shines over lowd in my opinion. Similar mechanics and lots of similar aspects, but this game is so much better at theme than lowd. After a while in lowd we were calling wizards as purple cubes and warriors as orange cubes, because it was much easier since all the cards refer to those objects that way visually. + here i felt like each component was a specific component and not just a color cube. I liked it a lot better. . Luck:. +low luck. Yes, there is some dice rolling during combat, but that isn't the focus and it's one part of the game. Some who don't like randomness of dice may still get frustrated and not like this component of the game. Whereas lowd has zero dice rolling, so you know what you are getting into with most decisions. . Strategy:. + we find this to be a mid-to-high strategy game. It doesn't feel like it most of the time, but myself and my 18yr old are the most strategic players, which means we tend to win more often. Thus your decisions have definitely gains and consequences and can be unforgiving at times. This means some players may need to not be so competitive with strategy or choose to help guide other less strategic players, so they can still have a good time too. . Buildings:. Like stone age and lowd, there are action spots that you claim with one of your meeples. + thematically the buildings make a lot of sense and are cool, such as seeing the future of a battle encounter. . + unlike lowd, where you need to wait till you get an intrigue card or wait till round 5 to get additional meeples, you can actually got to a building and pay gold to get your extra meeple. But there are incentives to not be the first to rush out and get that extra meeple right away. I like this building! . . Combat:. + there are game mechanics that incent players - in the form of negative points - to actually fight monsters instead of ignoring monsters. + there are public and private ships that can be used for sea battles. There are pros/cons to each. + in some scenarios, if you beat the monster you not only get glory but can assign "blame" to another player (negative points). Wow! ruthless. . End of round:. At end of round monsters are rotated out and some buildings may be restocked and coin incentives are added to other action spots to encourage players to go there next round. . Overall:. Especially in worker placement games, i like a game where there isn't always a clear winner until the final points are calculated. Also i really like games where even if you feel behind, that doesn't mean you have no chance of winning, as there are tons of ways to get glory points and maybe even win in the end. Thus, there are many strategies to try and win and lots of replayability. . . And it has great theme and excellent components while doing it. . We still have a place on our shelf for lowd (a plethora of strategies can be used to win) and stone age (more of a gatweway game for new gamers or younger, less experienced players). But we don't feel this replaces either of the two but meets its own audience need and thus we give this one two-thumbs-up!

A great game with solid mechanics and good quality components. I highly suggest this game for anyone that enjoys worker placement style games.

Shaming your friends for not fighting the troll. Yeah (we do that! ). At its heart this game is a pretty easy going worker-placement game with a battle mechanic (which is a nice departure from your typical worker-placement games). It has enough depth for discerning gamers to claim that it's got some replay available. There are plenty of paths to victory and the tide of battle can change leaders into losers as you risk much to take to the seas to battle sea monsters. Overall, it's on my shelf for now and i suspect i'll play again as i introduce it to other players or host it at local gaming conventions. The artwork and componentry are suitable for the price-point, the rules are well laid-out and easy to follow. It scales well from 2-4 players (and tends to be more aggressive with 2 players as someone is always to blame for not fighting a troll each round).

A awesome game! lots of fun and easy to learn. There are a bit more rules then an entry level game but the book is clear and anyone can pick it up.

First off, i'm not a huge fan of eurogames- games that feature indirect competition, no player elimination, resource management, etc. There are some that i like, but i'd almost always rather play a good ole' ameritrash game- dice chuckers, combat, etc. One eurogame that i always enjoyed was d&d lords of waterdeep, which was a fun and engaging worker placement game, if not very thematic, (i've heard the expansion brings more to the game, and i own it, but haven't played it yet). So i was not very interested when i initially ordered champions of midgard from online store vine, but i thought in the interests of broadening my gaming experiences, i'd give it a go. So glad i did. . Like lords of waterdeep, champions of midgard is a worker placement game- a game where players have a finite number of workers that can be placed at locations across the board. Players take turns placing their workers and then gaining the advantages of that unique space. For instance, players may place a worker at the market to trade resources, or on a spot to gain warriors (dice), or buy a longboat, or fight trolls, or any number of other unique adventures that allow players some advantages. Each game also features a number of random buildings that will differ with every game. Players attempt to gain glory points by fighting monsters across the sea, (which require them to gain dice, food, and boats), or by fulfilling destiny cards, or by gold held to the end of the game, or through various other means. When players fight trolls or monsters, players roll their warrior dice for success, trying to beat the enemy's armor value, then lose dice equal to the enemy's strength, unless shied icons are rolled. If successful, the player gains the reward printed on the monster like glory points, gold, and more. . The game features numerous ways to gain glory points during final scoring, so everyone remains invested in the game right up until the end. Game time is usually around 90 minutes or so. One thing that really struck me is how easy to catch on to this game is. After the first turn players will understand the game very easily. Teaching this game in the future will be a breeze. In short, champions of midgard is an excellent game and a fine addition to any gamer's shelf. . The discriminating gamer

Lots going on in this game and only 8 rounds to get it all done. Fun theme and i like the various character options. A little similarity with lords of waterdeep but enough differences that i'll hang on to and play both. But if you like lords you should like this one, too. Some people might not like the fact that combat is dice-based but you can mitigate a bit of the luck by earning re-rolls in the form of "favor tokens. ". . Towards the end of the game, the monster fights get pretty intense. The theme is so well done that my group doesn't mind losing because gameplay is so fun. I can't wait for the 5-player expansion to come out. I can't wait for the 5-player expansion to come out. Hopefully by the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017. . And also, draugrs appear to be norse walking dead.

Champions of midgard is a worker placement, resource management, dice rolling game. It takes everything i loved about two of my favorite games , lord of waterdeep and stoneage, and mashed them together. This game is a recent addition to my collection but has made it to the game table every time my game group gets together. . You play as one of the viking leaders trying to become jarl. You place your meeples on spaces to recruit warriors, or gather resources, such as wood and meat. You must protect the village by fighting monsters, such as trolls or travel a sea to face more dangerous foes. Along your sea travels you may encounter storms, or even the might kraken! so prepare by making sure to stock your ship as full as possible. In the end whom ever has the most glory becomes the jarl. . The randomness of the dice rolling is balanced quite nicely by the ability to re-roll them using your horns that are gathered by defeating less dangerous foes, and the ability to "plan" for the loss of warriors. If you liked either lord of waterdeep or stoneage i highly recommend this game.

Great game for non-hardcore types who want 90 minutes of conquest and glory. Really good choice if you're looking to introduce "non-gamers" to something that won't overwhelm them with recordkeeping or complexity. Fairly basic meeple placement game with some luck involved. Strong viking theme, which really makes the game enjoyable. One of the champions is decidedly weaker than the others (the seaworthy) but it's easy enough to leave him out in 2-3 player games.
