King New York Board Game (Iello) 3641

Review for king new york board

Price was $45.95. The best board game i've ever played. The single greatest feature of it is its ability to add and shed players easily. If someone's monster dies, they get up and walk away; the game isn't too long, so they won't have much time to wait. If someone has to leave without first dying, their monster proceeds as normal, but without re-rolling anything. If someone new comes by the table, they can just place a new monster; they won't be at an unfair advantage because they will start with 0 stars, and won't be at an unfair disadvantage because they will almost certainly start with greater health than the other players. A great game for 3-6 players, especially.

These types of games always confuse this mama, especially when my kids try to explain them to me. Yet this one stands out in a positive way. It is not too confusing when verbally explained, as so many are. I adore the stories we make up as we play, and having a table full of laughter is always a sign of a good game. This is my second purchase of this game, as our first one was ruined during a move. The time frame of game play varies, but typically is not longer than 45 minutes; although a player could get lucky and win very quickly. Tee hee! the fact that we like the game enough to spend the $ to re-purchase it speaks volumes in our game playing family! one more nice aspect is that even i was able to explain the rules to a few new younger players. Yep, that is quite a feat around here. This one is a keeper for high level of enjoyment, appeal with various personalities, and time frame of play time. King of new york board game Review (i 51170)

I really like this new iteration to the series. Granted dice rolling games are usually not my favorite, as i like games more like power grid/caverna/ le havre/samurai , this game is still quite good. One of the better dice rollers. I also like king of tokyo, but now, even that seems a bit to simple for me. Still probably a better game to introduce new gamers to, then follow up with king of new york. I like that in king of new york there's a bit more intricacy allowing a little more strategy than king of tokyo. Still - both great games for casual play. . Like i said, not my favorite genre of games, but this game is usually well received and i can actually get people to play it. Games like power grid and other mention earlier take a lot of time an thinking, which most of my friends usually don't want to do. -E. Guest

king new york boardKing of New York Board Game (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

I always describe this to people as "the video game rampage, with yahtzee rules" -. A group of giant monsters are fighting throughout the five boroughs of new york for supremacy. You roll (and re-roll) dice, and the outcome of those dice determines what happens during your round. Maybe you stomped a tank. Maybe you slapped the giant robot in manhattan. Maybe you hurt yourself because you're a big, clumsy dinosaur with a sheriff hat and arms too small to reach his six-shooter pistols. . King of new york is a great game for casual gamers who want something fun and fairly light, yet with a surprising level of depth and strategy. The rules may seem imposing when you explain them for the first time, but gameplay is pretty intuitive. . If you have played king of tokyo, it is similar, but with a bit more depth so far as rules and game events. Kot is a great intro game, but i think kony is a bit meatier and geared towards casual gamers who want a little bit more. Unlike in kot, in kony you can't just sit back and rack up points, as the military units and the possibility of being pushed into manhattan remove that. . You can try to win by scoring victory points, you can try to win by knocking out the other monsters, you can try to horde energy cubes and spend them on cards to weaken other monsters or strengthen yourself. Military units appear and begin to fill up the board as you destroy more and more buildings. . Up to 6 players can take part in the mayhem, and gameplay moves fairly fast. While there is (potentially) player elimination, it usually does not occur until the later stages of the game, so it's fairly inclusive. Gameplay takes about 45 minutes on average. . The board, cards, and pieces are quality, and even the box is pretty durable. And the concept of giant monsters is done with excellent comic/cartoon relief: there are cards like "drink the hudson river" and one card even lets you gain the statue of liberty as a tag-team city-crushin' partner. . King of new york is a worthwhile investment for the under-$30 tag. It's fairly easy to teach the basics of once you start playing.

King New York Board Game
Click to see NoticeKing New York Board Game (Iello)"King of new york is a sequel of sorts to king of tokyo. If you haven't played it then imagine a game of yahtzee where you play as a monster. On your turn you roll dice up to three times in order to create specific face pairings that do things like punching your opponents or scoring points. King of tokyo was a simplistic dice game with no strings attached. King of new york expands the original by adding an actual board which brings new strategies beyond just throwing dice. . Each monster can move to different burroughs which are occupied by buildings and/or military. Instead of scoring raw points from the dice you can destroy buildings which give points or heal you. But each building destroyed turns into a military unit that can activate to attack monsters in the area. Manhattan, this game's tokyo, is made up of three tiers that grant increasing amounts of victory points; this gives more incentive for players to remain in tokyo as the rewards increase over time. Players can move about the burroughs to capitalize on buildings or escaping the ever piling military. . Overall the board adds a bit more strategy that tokyo didn't have. You can wrack up a lot of points through destroying buildings or trigger a board-wide attack by the military that may cause more damage than you could with dice. There are more options to earn energy for purchasing the power cards but monsters in manhattan, who normally can't heal through the dice, can destroy certain buildings or military units for health. In effect, there are fewer moments of downtime. Half the dice faces in tokyo were devoted to victory point scoring (1/2/3) which could leave you high and dry with ineffective dice pairing. In new york it feels like you can work with any outcome on your rolls, with the exception of triggering a steam rolling army but i've seen cunning players win by carefully triggering board-wide attacks. . For people who love the briskness of tokyo this may not be the game for them. But i love deeper, more involved experiences and new york provides that within the 15-30 minute time frame of the original. There's more to set up but it plays just as fast and all the original monsters can be ported over."

Bang : The Dice Game

Bang! the dice game is a pretty fun little filler game. It can be awesome though if you are playing with the right people. Preferably, everyone is into it and playing the part: bluffing, lying, laughing, etc. Otherwise, it's a bit boring. Game play goes like this: everyone is given role cards that consist of sheriff, deputy, outlaw, or renegade. Only the sheriff's role is known. The deputy and sheriff work together to kill the outlaws and renegades. Outlaws try to kill the sheriff and deputies. The renegade just tries to be the last one standing. The trick is building alliances based on ones word. Players can lie, back stab, etc. Additional roles come in the form of character cards that have a certain number of life points and a special ability. Overall, bang! the dice game is a great addition to your collection. It's light, easy to teach, and only takes 15-20 minutes to play.

Unmask and defeat your enemies, keep up with the indians and challenge your fate to bring your team to the victory! fast and exciting game play - based on the bang! game system. A very successful game line, with fans all over the world! you do not need bang! to play.

Bang : Dice Game (Da Vi) FAQ.

I don't have much experience w/ the other bang! (the card game) as i couldn't get my family to play a second time. Our first time was a bit clunky and the kids just weren't into it, and it took awhile to play. I really wanted to like it, and i still do, but then along comes bang! the dice game and suddenly the card game has been run out of town. . B! tdg keeps many similarities to the card game but streamlines it to play in a shorter amount of time. You still have secret roles and character cards but add some yahtzee or king of tokyo dice play and you have b! tdg. Because it plays fast, those who get eliminated aren't out that long before the next round starts. The many (16? ) character cards keep things interesting too. . I've only played w/ 4 and 5 people and find 5 to be much better than 4. I see 3-4 player games as being barely playable but look forward to more 5 player or more games as that is when things get interesting (the deputy comes into play). . For the price and 5+ player play, i have to give this 5/5. . Eta: after several plays, i found one of the character cards was starting to take some very small damage on the edge so i sleeved them as i didn't want this to happen to any of the 8 role cards which are supposed to remain secret/unidentifiable. I had some maydaygames. Com premium 63. 5mm x 88mm sleeves leftover and found these fit perfectly. Only needed 24 sleeves for the main cards. -Notice from U. Barbara, Sachsen-Anhalt

This is a really fun and simple game. Almost no setup time (a few seconds) and plays quickly (5 people may take 15 mins per game). It's like a cross between poker (bluffing) and yatzee (dice rolls to get combinations of items). The one thnig to be aware of, and this probably is obvious from the name and the box cover, is this is a cowboy game and the goal is to eliminate the other teams by "shooting" them. If you don't like gun related things (e. G. Bullets), dynamite, cowboys, outlaws or native americans (indians? can we say that any more? ) shooting arrows at cowboys, this isn't going to work for you and stay with "g" rated games. If you're ok with these elements then you'll enjoy this game. . The idea, in a nutshell, is to eliminate the other plays who aren't on your "team", but exactly who is in your sights depends on which team you're on and the strategy you're playing. The sheriff and vice sheriff try to kill all the outlaws, the outlaws try to kill the sheriff and vice sheriff and the renegade tries to get the other teams to kill each other. The trick is, everyone knows who the sheriff is, but no one knows who anyone else is. You roll the 5 dice and get one of several 'actions', a bullet, health, dynamite or an arrow. The bullet (1, 2, or 3) allows you one shot 1, 2 or 3 players away, the health restores 1 point of health. The arrow is collected from the arrows pile, which, when exhausted means you have to calculate your health damage for the arrows (1 arrow collected usually means 1 health point taken away). Roll the dice (up to 3 times per turn) and take you shots. And that's basically it until one of the 3 teams wins. Oh yeah, one other detail. Each player will have a randomly chosen character card, in addition to their hidden team card. The character card tells you what your abilities are. This means you might get an extra health point each turn, or you might only have 1 arrow damage, regardless of how many arrows you got on your turn. Things like that keep the game interesting. . Kids 7 or 8 and older can play along with adults and everyone will have a good time.

- W. CarmenAs a huge fan of the bang! card game, i recently purchased and started playing the dice game, so i thought i'd shed some light on the differences. Both games are amazing and a lot of fun, but one or the other might be better-suited for your gaming needs:. . The card game: . - harder to learn. I've had a lot of friends be confused / borderline frustrated learning their first game of bang. - longer games more investment, more replayability. Prepare to budget up to an hour for a game. - more options & slower turns more strategy. If you like games that you have to think about, the card game is better for this. - hidden hands / cards more intrigue, harder to guess people's roles because you can't tell what their options are. If you like the hidden identity aspect, you'll probably prefer the card game. . The dice game. . - easier to learn, by far. There aren't a hundred different cards to explain, there's just six possible dice rolls. - shorter games great for parties, not great for regular gamers. You don't have to ask people to commit to a full hour, dice games generally only take 15 minutes or so. Because of that, don't expect to play this dozens of times with the same friends, it's just not as replayable. - fewer options & faster turns easier to keep people's attention. Again, great for parties. - public dice roles less intrigue, since people's strategies are pretty obvious. There's also a bigger chance component thanks to the dice rolls, so there's more excitement in the moment (and more shared excitement, since everyone is watching the rolling). . In conclusion, if you're looking for a game to dive into with the same group of thoughtful friends, you're better off with the card game. The dice game is better for parties where people don't want to learn new complicated rules, and families with younger children w/shorter attention spans. . I hope you found this helpful!

I was an outlaw, my friend sitting next to me said "don't shoot me, i am on your side. " *wink* *wink*. . So naturally i pumped my friend full of lead because i thought she's a sheriff's deputy trying to pose as an outlaw. Turned out (after the game) she indeed was on my side. Oops, talking about sending deadly mixed signals. Maybe i was a bit too trigger-happy. But oh well, it's the wild wild west after all. . As luck would have it, this move covered up my true identity as an outlaw, and fooled the sheriff into thinking i am one of the good guys, one of his deputies. . The sheriff was almost dead, and i was almost dead too, with a third guy shooting at both of us. I threw a one on my dice, i could heal myself back to 2hp, and take a chance to see if i survive the next round. . But i healed the sheriff instead, "never break character durin an act", as dr. King shultz once said to django (the d is silent), a valuable lesson indeed. . When sheriff rowed his dice, he got a three. And he healed me back to 4hp. "i am counting on you buddy! " sheriff said to me. "thanks sheriff! you are the true hero! " i replied. . Now fully confident that i have enough health, with the big wonderful smiles still on both of our faces. I shot the sheriff dead. The sheriif falls, with such a puzzled look on his face. . Oh the sweet sweet taste of deception and betrayel. . One of my most hilarious board game moment ever. . -. . The rules are simple to learn, took me about 15 minutes to totally get into it. Grab some friends, you will have a total blast!

Love this game. My friend described it best when he called it a "video game board game. " great for casual gamers, and for those who have only a little interest in gaming. The games relies on a heavy mix of chance and strategy meaning that everyone has an equal chance of winning. The game itself is short and i would probably bring another few games to a game night to play along with it. Overall though it's a lot of fun.

- T. RebeccaMan, we love this game. You can knock it out in 10 minutes and it's very exciting. . Between this and king of ny, i like this game better. Kony adds significant complexity in the form of the army tokens. I like this game better because it's easier to learn and it doesn't bog down while players decide what to do like kony. It's just "roll them dice as fast as you can and hope for the best".

Great, fun game. Good replay value with all the different power cards out there and combination. I think 4 people is ideal.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong

This is a fast playing deduction game - if you're a fan of one night ultimate werewolf and/or mysterium - grab this game! one person is tge killer, only the csi knows who, they leave clues as to who done it. Follow the evidence, catch the killer. Games take under 15 minutes. While it might be, technically, a little dark for young people (after all, someone killed someone) it isn't a dark game - very easy to play with family, younger players. And the conversations cam keep it light. . There's a lot of content in the box, which really adds to multiple gameplays, without the repetitiveness

In deception: murder in hong kong, players find themselves in a scenario of intrigue and murder, deduction and deception. One player is the murderer, secretly choosing their weapon and the evidence they leave behind. Another is the forensic scientist who holds the key to convicting the criminal but is only able to express their knowledge through analysis of the scene. The rest are investigators, interpreting the clues to solve the crime and the killer is among them.

Deception: Murder In Hong Kong (Grey Fox Games) FAQ.

A fun deduction game, and it is a deduction game, you can use information to try to figure out what is going one, meanwhile the killer is trying to bend the situation to make it look like others are guilty. Have played this game several times and it seems like the detectives are slightly more likely to win, but its pretty close. Also the games go quickly so you will end playing several times. -Notice from A. Rebecca, Idaho

This has been a no fail game for any group i've brought it to, whether or not they were experienced board gamers. This is the kind of game that your friends will ask you to break out again the next time they come over. We love all trying to put the murder into a narrative and telling each other how we think it happened. Everyone has these elaborate stories because there are lots of clues, some of which matter and some of which do not. The best way to weed out the clues that don't matter is to work in all the clues into murder story, and see which clues change in the next round. This way, the climax of the game is not like the anti-climactic board game clue, where you would say, "i think john committed the murder with the scarf and left behind the playing card. " it's more like, "ok, i think john was playing a high stakes game of poker in an abandoned factory with someone he met on craigslist. Everyone was dressed warmly because the factory did not have good heating. After winning a big hand, his opponent attempted to argue his way out of paying the debt. There was a scuffle, and in a fit of rage, he strangled the deadbeat to death with his own scarf. " these stories are the highlight of the game. It's the best when the murderer has a really good alternative story that the other players buy into, and after he gets away with the murder, everyone goes back to the clues and realizes how they were duped.

- Z. HaywardThis game has the potential to be in every gaming circle. The resistance + mysterium + maybe a bit of code names. I appreciate that being the bad guy isn't as draining as maybe in the resistance or similar hidden role games because you're not convincing people you are good, you are explaining why somebody else's items make sense. My first time putting it on the table in a group of six and we played 5 rounds before i put it up so we didn't burn out on it! . The only negative is wish the evidence/clue cards were bigger. They can be hard to read. Also the price seems to be going up and down here on online store (i paid $33 and right now it's $38). Overall maybe my favorite hidden roles game!

*update*. Kids on christmas break played no less than 20 rounds of this game and didn't want to stop. Next day, they asked if we could play again. My 18yr old, who is ultra competitive, even wanted to play. Why he would like this, is because the player interaction outweighed any frustrations he may have with having to wait on people to make a decision. Raising the review a star because they really, really like it! . . By the way, out of 20 games, our group of five players (ages 12 to 40-something) only won once as the investigators. The murderer won ever time. The success of the investigators hinges primarily on the forensic scientist (most difficult role to play) in guiding the investigators as best as possible. . In a six player game you now add in the roles of accomplice and witness. Our investigators won 60% of the time, thanks to the witness. . . Overview:. Reprint of csi files, which i never played but have heard good things about. Initial concept is similar to mafia, werewolf, ect. Where you are using deduction to guess the identify of someone. . One person is the forensic scientist and one is the murder. These are the must-have roles. You may have the optional witness or an accomplice, depending on number of players. Most of the cards are all the different causes of death. . The forensic scientist will use tiles to give the other players clues (without talking) by putting markers on the tiles. Everyone gets 30-seconds to talk and then a tile is removed and replaced with another tile. This keeps going on until someone spends a token to guess the murderer and players win or murder wins if the guesses are wrong. . Components:. Excellent quality components on tiles, cards and token markers. . Theme:. The added asian symbols makes this feel like i'm an american detective in hong kong working with the other detectives trying to solve the crime. . The team of detectives (players) are simply "reading" the forensic scientist's report and between that and the conversation it feels like the group is really working together to solve the crime. Plus there is the murderer who is a mole in the group. . Learning curve:. Super easy to teach anyone. So easy in fact i guess you could treat this as a gateway game, which means it is easy to introduce to non-gamers and they should be able to have fun without getting overwhelmed by a bunch of rules. . Other notes:. When it is the forensic scientist's turn, they have to keep a straight face through the whole thing or they give away too much information. . When everyone has their heads down and the forensic scientist asks the murder to reveal themselves and point out the causes of death, it really is difficult in these games for folks not to hear or feel the person next to them moving. So people need to be careful and quiet when playing the murderer. . Overall:. This is not exactly my cup-of-tea, but i do like it and have fun. I'm more a 3-4hrs armies battling game kind of guy or tabletop roleplaying game if i was to pick my favorite type of game to play. Maybe i should not ding the review a star, but that's just how i feel about it. . . Right now. . On the other hand, my kids love. Just love playing mafia or werewolf at youth group and this is yet another game they are enjoying adding to the mix. It is a good party game, but requires people who won't cheat, which is why the age requirement is a bit higher than maybe expected (plus the theme has to do with murder). Overall, we really like this and it joins the other 200 games we have on our shelf. . Two-thumbs-up!

Sushi Go Party Card Game (Gamewright) FAQ.

This game is incredibly fun. We loved sushi go! , but we were bummed that only 5 people could play as we are a family of 6. When i saw a new version that allowed for more players, i knew we had to have it! this one adds some really fun new game play. The only reason i can't give it 5 stars is because after only 3 games played, the cards are rubbing off color onto other cards. I'm hoping to find a way to contact gamewright and let them know about the issue. Hopefully it was just a bad batch print-wise? -Notice from U. Hannah, Hackney

Our family's favorite game. My friends & family highly enjoy playing this game. Our children are age 5 & 6 and learned the rules fairly easily. After a month of play, they developed winning strategies beyond collecting puddings, in her words, "pudding queen" or him "dumpling king. ". Also they use basic addition, subtraction, and multiplacation skills while playing. We started off with the sushi go cards and have now bought this set. The new additions allow you to play the basic way or add variety in point earning, as well as play style. We play the more cutthroat options with friends and keep it low key for the kids as to avoid meltdowns :)

- Y. ParkerBroke it out last night, and played a few rounds with the family. We have kids ages 7 through 19, so finding a game that is good for everyone is tough, but everyone in our family loved it. We only tried the beginning deck combination of cards, but i could see playing with that set up plenty of times without getting bored, but there are so many combinations to make that i believe the game will have very good "replayability. " everyone picked it up really fast, and our 7 year-old didn't even lose. I did, but then again, i was taking risks, and everyone loves to get dad!

It's cute! it's sushi! together, they're a party! . . This is a pass-and-play card game. Each round every player starts with a hand of cards. You play one card, then pass your entire hand to the left. When all the cards are played, you score the cards you played. Three rounds and you're done. . It's easy to teach to beginners, but there is enough strategy to keep things interesting. Knowing what to play and what to pass, and guessing what your opponents will play, is where you win or lose. . The game comes in a good size metal tin with an insert to keep the different types of cards organized. The tin can be shoved into a bag or suitcase and taken anywhere without fear of damage or mixed up parts. The cards (and game tin) are colorful, cute, and attractive. There is a sushi go! game out there, but you want this one. It has a lot of different cards in it, allowing for loads of replay value as you can have a different "menu" each time. . And for the price? this is an amazing deal. It would be worth it for twice the cost. . My only grumble is that the rule book is just a few millimeters too large for the tin. The corners get mushed when you put it away. But if that bothers you, just do what i did and trim it slightly with a metal ruler and a click-knife. Oh, and you can't put sleeves on the cards and still have them fit into the slots in the insert.

The F.A.Q. for king of new york board game

After playing a few times, we're just now getting the hang of it. While my wife doesn't care for it, my boys and i really enjoy playing it. I would love to see what happens with 5-6 players because it would be interesting to see if the strategy changes for two monsters in manhattan at the same time. . Great game. Easy to play. Fun concept with the monsters. I think it is a bit too easy to win with one strategy of harming other monsters. But with more players, it might be harder to win.

A number of questions have been asked here.

We like to play board games like ticket to ride, bang! , etc. I read some good things about kings of tokyo and then all of a sudden online store had this game on sale for a price i couldn't pass up. What a blast! it's not a long game. For 4 players i'd be surprised if it took more than 45 minutes to play all the way through once everyone knows what they're doing. For two players it's very quick, 20 minutes tops. Here's a high level summary of the game play. . You play as a monster and your goal is to kill all of the other monsters and/or take over new york city. You get points by smashing buildings, other players, or the army. When it's your turn you can heal yourself, buy card that give you special abilities, and wreak havok on other players and the stuff that's in your borough. The player that is in manhattan gets some special abilities like more money on each turn but the downside is that anyone can attack them and they can't heal. Players move in and out of manhattan throughout the game. As the game gets into the late stages you've presumably destroyed a lot of buildings and the army starts to get a lot more powerful. If you're the last one alive or if you get enough points you win. . It's a super fun game and very re-playable. As a two person game it's fun but in my opinion a little too short. If you can get more than 5 players the game starts to get really interesting. The only thing i don't like is that it's an elimination game. If you get destroyed at the beginning of the game you have to sit out and wait for the game to finish. It's not to bad though because like i said the game is pretty short. The rules are easy and anyone over the age of 8 or 9 should be able to pick up on them pretty fast. Highly recommended.

Awesome board game! the first game is a little slow while you learn to play took us a little over an hour to get through but after that its about 45 minutes a game. Good amount of strategy, you can go about trying to win several ways. The cards make sure every game is a little different. I own family bussiness, the dead of winter, sheriff of nottingham, a game of thrones, scrimish, and a small world (with all expansion). King of new york is my current favorite.

I purchased this game after having a lot of fun with king of tokyo, hoping that this game would provide the same kind of entertainment that i had come to expect after the hours of gameplay i had invested in its predecessor. Having now put the equivalent amount of time into king of new york, i can gladly say that i am 100% satisfied with this purchase. . The new additions of what i would call environmental interaction is a much-welcomed twist on the traditional gameplay. Moving to different boroughs to avoid the onslaught of military personnel makes for a difficult decision when doing so may place you in greater danger from other players. This provides an interesting dimension that king of tokyo was missing. Additionally, the ability to harvest points and health from destroying the environment allows for a different route to victory than exclusively picking at one another - though there is still plenty of room for that. . The only downside i can see is that it takes slightly longer to set up and teach, but that is completely minor. The additional 2 minutes of set up is barely even worth mentioning, and i have yet to spend more than 10 minutes explaining the game to anyone. Basically, if there was any confusion, one round of play usually clears up any questions. . Summary: environmental additions open up the gameplay in a new, exciting way. New rules and set up add a negligible amount of time before beginning the game. Worth purchasing even if you own king of tokyo.

Love this game! . If you like games where your pitted against the other players, this one is it! . Play time: 30 - 45 min. . Quick play:. . Each player starts with a monster on the board and a little cardboard thing that has a health meter set to 10, and a star meter set to 0. Your goal is to either get all other players to have a health of 0 (last player standing) or be the first player to reach a star meter of 20. If your health meter falls to 0 your out of the game. . This is nice because "last player standing" games tend to take long like monopoly as each person slowly gets eliminated. Whenever we played, someone reached 20 stars first before all players were eliminated. . So you place your monster on one of the five boroughs of new york! yeah im a moron who didnt know all 5 till i played this game. Educational! :). Tiles are also placed in each borough which can give you stuff. . Then each player takes turns rolling up to 6 dice! and you can reroll as many of them as you want up to 3 times. This is nice because it eliminates chance and provides for strategy as you aim for getting certain rolls. The dice have 6 things you can do: repair health, attack (make others lose health), energy, star, break buildings, ouch! . . You roll, do damage, take damage, break buildings in new york to get cool stuff, and have fun while doing it! . . There are of course more rules and the game has a big strategy depending on which borough you are in:. . If your are in manhattan and roll "attack", all other monsters outside take damage. But if you are outside manhattan and roll " attack", only the monster in manhattan takes damage! so beware, while it might be fun to be king of manhattan you may fall pretty hard! . . Great game!

G. Fabian, Wyoming says

Fun game, played both new york and. Tokyo version, love them both. New york has a lot more craziest going on, easier to destroy someone but also hurting yourself. Fun for anyone

T. Rowe, Wigan

Great game, adds a lot of content to the king of tokyo, makes it more of an in-depth game. Box came damaged and warped, but was packaged very well, so i'm sure the damage occurred before shipping, which is a little disappointing.

W. Valdez, Ontario says

Thank you! we are having so much fun with the game!

This is the sequel to the popular board game, "king of tokyo". Its similar in mechanics, but adds a component of going on a rampage through out the city (and the resulting increased military response). It's still a relatively simple game and i was able to play it with my nephews of 8 and 10, but it is more complicated mechanics than kot. . The expansion pack which is slated for later this year is supposed to bridge the characters between the two games, allowing you to play kot monsters in ny and ny monsters in kot, as well as having the evolution cards for these new characters.

I. Ruff, West Berkshire says

If you liked king of tokyo and wanted a little more complexity and fun then this is it. Technically you can use the previous tokyo creatures with this one as well, but that is more easily achieved with the power up expansions. This version features things to smash and extra ways to get those victory points.

V. Rose, Idaho

King of new york is going to be very familiar to anyone who has played king of tokyo. It is pretty much the same thing but now instead of tokyo, you are trying to conquer manhattan and it is split up into 3 tiers which increase in rewards if you can stay in long enough as you move up a tier each round at the end of your turn. . The other new concept are buildings in each borough that can be destroyed and will give you rewards and transform into units in the borough which will fire at you if you roll poorly. The units can be destroyed at a later turn, but while they remain in your borough, they are a danger. . It adds an interesting twist to a familiar favorite, however, if you play this with 3 or 4 players, you will notice the flaw that the units will not fire often and it is easy to win with stars and not even getting into manhattan that much. . I think it is worth getting this if you own king of tokyo, but only at a discount as i would not pay full price since i own king of tokyo. If you own neither, this may be worth full price but only if you are looking for a game that holds larger groups (5-6 players). When played with 3, it was not as fun as king of tokyo with 3 players.

K. Peggy, Franche-Comte says

I bought this for my brother on his birthday and he loved it!

M. Joanna, Bromley

King of tokyo is a hard game to top. It's party-friendly. It's easy to pick up. Amongst the ideal 4-6 player range, it cycles among frantic alliances and betrayals. The theme is comical and the artwork, particularly its cards, are top notch. It's one of those games you can reliably bring along to please even those who aren't board game aficionados. It has but one glaring problem: turtling. It's far too effective a strategy to merely avoid entering tokyo as much as possible, racking up victory points while your opponents fight amongst themselves. Which is pretty dull compared to the backdrop of stretching your roll to try to get that last attack face in order to eliminate an opponent. . King of new york provides a novel counter to this. In place of the number faces of the dice are the new features of destruction, celebrity, and ouch. Cities now fight back - military units break out in response to damage - and you can funnel these units to where your opponents are stationed. No monster is very safe for long. This isn't a small rebalance. You'll probably discover that while the rules remain pretty similar, habits from kot are counter-productive in kony. It speeds up the game and rewards careful consideration. There's less room for error when choosing when to heal, when to gather energy, and when to attack. . The only slights i can manage: the cards from kot are mostly incompatible given these changes. Which is sad since some of them are pretty fantastic and i would love to include them. Second, the scoring placards haven't changed other than the artwork for new characters. So they still suffer from the problem of not very visibly showing health and victory points except through a very small window. This leads to lots of neck craning or 'health check' announcements. Neither of these are enough to dock kony out of five-star territory. All of the charms from before are still here, just refined.

N. Campbell, Middlesbrough says

A follow up game that's actually better than the original? surprising. But this game adds more "things to do" and also balances it towards winning by victory points. Crushing buildings for points, health, and energy adds some flavor and additional strategy to the game play. In fact i'd say it's far easier than winning by victory points than killing everyone else. Most games end that way now. This version makes the original look a tad inferior. Looking forward to the expansion pack.

T. Lorenz, New Jersey

What a fun family or group game! slight learning curve, but once you get it, the fights on! pick your favorite monster, roll the dice, choose to attack, heal, gather energy and a few more options. The strategy is up to you. Stay in manhattan and take advantage of the perks or flee to another borough and regroup to rethink your plan to victory. It picks up right where king of tokyo leaves off and adds even more fun. Can be played with 2-6 players. Age group is 10+ however, my 8 yr old son plays just fine and even won the first three times we played.
