Primary Science Lab Set (Learning Resources) 4319

Review for primary science lab

Price was $16.49. My spouse and i are both chemists so we naturally had to find the right glassware set for our toddler and preschooler (that really wasn't made of glass). We bought 2 sets and our kids love them. We don't really use the experiments on the cards provided, but my kids are happy to make up their own. We of course make up some for them too. I leave these sets accessible to them in a kitchen drawer and they know that can experiment any time they want. At least once a week, i find the erlenmeyer flask sitting out with some concoction brewing in it. Our plan is to use this set until they are in 1st or 2nd grade, then graduate to a traditional glassware set with more calibrated markings.

My 5 year old daughter loves this set. I gave her some cheap shaving cream, salt, tiny marshmallows, food coloring, access to water, and sprinkles and covered my kitchen counter in a black garbage bag and she created experiments for hours! her 7 year old cousin visited recently and i set up the same items for them and they played for hours as well. This set is sturdy, the goggles are realistic and i appreciate the ease of use! I like this set so much that it's now a go-to gift for friends. I've bought several science-based sets for kids and this is one of the best. It's really good for very young kids (2-3 yrs. ) in that the plastic is thick and tough, and the flask and tubes are very big compared to other sets-good for small hands, tougher to knock over. It comes with a set of goggles that are really pretty good quality. I have to admit that i steal them out of the kit to protect my eyes when i cut onions now. The experiment cards included in the kit are very easy to read, and very simple to practice with your small child. I'd warn that the tweezers are pretty useless. They're too big to get into the tubes and too dull for actually grabbing things, but it's really not a big deal. I think the thing my 2 1/2 year old liked most was the color mixing and dumping water from one tube to another. Even for a substantial period of time after our water had turned black.

Primary Science Lab Set
Click to see NoticePrimary Science Lab Set (Learning Resources)"This durable set is great for my 5 year old - the chunky pieces are easy to manipulate. The only piece that doesn't really work well is the tweezers - it's too chunky to really fit in the test tubes, and hard to manipulate. That's ok - the set doesn't need it. . My son gets a huge kick out of using this kit - including wearing the goggles while he works. . The 10 experiment cards that are included have very simple experiments using common kitchen ingredients. My only wish was that there were a few more, but my kid loves this set so much and is already creating his own experiments ("if i soak a rock, a bean, and a raisin in tubes overnight, which one will get softer? " his hypothesis - a rock). Really, he'd be happy just transferring water (eye-dropper, funnel, pouring) between the flask, beaker, and test tubes all day if i let him. . I recommend this kit to all my friends with kids - it's great fun!"

Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. My First Microscope

I purchased this for my then 3 yr old, now 4 yr old son for christmas. He wasn't sure what it was when opening, but he liked the idea after we explained. This product does not magnify much more than a typical hand magnifying glass. My son plays with it some but not frequently. He scratched the lens, so that makes it a little less enjoyable as well. Overall a nice product, built for a preschool age kid, i do wish it had better magnification.

Designed by a scientist and mother of two preschoolers, geosafari jr. My first microscope allows kids to see magnified hidden worlds with ease! this fully functional microscope is a real tool with a range of magnification (2. 5x 8x) designed with a preschooler in mind. Magnified views can be challenging for little ones to understand, so by starting with the 2. 5x view (with the focusing knob turned as far away from your child as it will go), your preschooler can orient herself to the item she s viewing, and as she turns the focusing knob towards herself, she can gradually pull away to an 8x view. The wide field of view of these lower magnifications is critical to little ones understanding. My first microscope also features two extra-large eyepieces (no need to close one eye! ) and a chunky, kid-sized focusing knob. A bright led with easy push-button action lights up details for even more discoveries. Requires 3 aaa batteries (not included).

Educational Insights Geosafari Jr. My First Microscope (EI-5112) FAQ.

A great introductory microscope for my two toddlers. They love putting all sorts of things under it to see. Not great magnification, but noticeable and suitable for their state of development. Big knob makes it easy for them to use. Only complaint is that the little cushions around the eye pieces pry off pretty easily and my toddlers seem to enjoy doing that as much as looking at things through it. Easy enough to push back into place though. -Notice from F. Wimbish, Portsmouth

The geosafari jr microscope is perfect for ages 3-6. It doesn't arrive with batteries & doesn't automatically turn off so stock up a few extras. Once you install the batteries you just click the button to turn it on. Then you just put items under the microscope to magnify them. It doesn't have a real strong magnification but its okay for a young child because it is easy to operate.

- S. SallyI got this for my grandson for christmas and he loves it. He is three years old and very curious. He loves seeing what things look like up close. My only complaint is that the knob continues to turn making a loud clicking noise when the lens has been moved as far up or down as it will go. I wish the knob would simply stop turning when it reaches the end. My grandson kept turning and turning it thinking it would do something but all it did was make a horribly loud clicking sound.

Fun for the kids to look at the detail of random things they find.

Jumbo Eyedroppers Set of 6 Stand

Bought this to go with a science kit for my preschool aged children and they love it. Fun, educational. And did i mention fun? even the 2 year old went crazy over these droppers. If you aren't doing any type of real experiment, just fill a few bowls with water and food coloring and kids have a blast mixing and transferring the water and experimenting with colors. Happy with the purchase.

Have fun experimenting with cause and effect while building fine motor skills at the same time. This set of 6 perfectly sized and colorful droppers store vertically in a convenient stand. A great addition to any science center or sensory table.

Great for little hands. My son has autism and poor motor skills and the larger grips were a big help. He is able to use his whole hand to squeeze the top. - C. OlgaLove these. Use them for my jellybeanstreet children's finger painting workshops with the kids to drop water onto the powdered paint. They are great for the younger ones to use. They are able to hold and squeeze them without any problems!

So so so cool! my 3 year old and 1 year old are entertained for at least 15 minutes. I used these for my 3 year old dinosaur party. Froze little tiny dinosaurs in balloons and presented them as "eggs" and had the kids melt them with the droppers.

The F.A.Q. for primary science lab set

My son loves this and i'm able to bond with him over what takes up most of my day-to-day chemistry. Though he's four, he now knows the difference between an acid and a base, what products are made as a result of mixing the two, and the basics of a gas-evolution reaction. The included experiments provide a good segway into explaining chemistry basics through demonstration. The included erlenmeyer flask and test tubes hold up nicely to some of the more "volatile" experiments i've shown my son. Happy with this purchase!

A number of questions have been asked here.

(0) Question: What ingredients should i buy to give to my son with the kit?

(1) Question: Could someone please tell me what experiment 5 is in this kit? describe the idea please or take a photo. ours came with two of 3 and none of 5.

I bought this for my niece for her 3rd birthday. I was aware that some of the experiments might be a little over her head, but she loves making volcanoes and cleaning pennies. She calls it her potion set and will happily play with it using just water and some salt and baking soda making "potions" by herself for a few hours! . . I read from the reviews that the set didn't contain the materials for the experiments, so i went to the company's website to look up the project cards and put together a box of those supplies to give along with the set. I bought white vinegar, salt, baking soda, food coloring, vegetable oil, cotton balls, and a big baggie of dirty pennies, this cost about $8. . I highly recommend this set, it's great if you want to guide the experiments and use together and it's great for hours of imaginary play.

My almost 5 yr old loves this science kit. He received this for christmas and has played with it almost every day since. I love it that the kit is very sturdy and easy to clean. I like the test tube holders the most; very hard to tip over. We use a large sheet pan/jelly roll pan to contain the liquids because volcanos are messy! i would suggest buying a big jug of vinegar, some baking soda, salt and some food coloring just for science experiments. We're on our 3rd jug of vinegar! i also like the large plastic coated experiment cards, easy but interesting experiments, large easy to read print and they won't get destroyed when they get wet. We actually got a second kit for him to use at his grandmas house.

I got this for my son for christmas when he was 4 years old. He is now about to turn 6 and it is still used very frequently for doing "science" both at the bathroom sink and outside. There is always something brewing in those wonderful test tubes with lids! as any good toy is for the younger kids, this science set is super tough. Not a single piece of it has failed or worn down yet.

H. Sandra, Essex

I bought this in to a school event to illustrate what it is like to be a scientist. I showed the kids these equipment, as representation of lab tools. The kids loved it. They were middle school aged and still found this interesting. The tools shown here though are designed for younger kids. However, they make good props for explaining what it is like to work in a lab. I would recommend this kit to others, as it does seem to appeal to the younger audience (elementary- middle school).

N. Judith, Rhode Island says

I was hesitant to buy these for my eight year old but she needed something better than medicine droppers and straws. She opened her gift at her birthday party and it was a huge instant hit. All of the kids loved playing with it. The materials are very durable, i've even ran them through the dishwasher. I know the age recommendation is young but older kids will definitely live them as well. I'd say age is more 3-10.

K. Peggy, South Dakota

My daughter was stoked to receive this for her birthday. (she'd asked for a "science kit. ") she wanted to do all the experiments the first night. But i talked her into doing just a few - we did the mixing of colored water and the shiny penny experiments. This seems like a really good starter set, functional for smaller and more fumbly hands, and easy to wash. She didn't really use the goggles (took them off quickly), so i can't speak to their comfort. She loved being able to be independent and was insistent on doing most of the experiments on her own, which i really loved.

V. Margaret, North East Lincolnshire says

I purchased this set for my 5 year old grandson who is now in kindergarten. Not only has he and his mom done experiments around the house with this set, he has brought projects into school to show his class. His kindergarten teacher was so impressed with the set she wants to have the school supply this for all the kindergaren classes. My grandson is one of three boys in the household and these pieces have been alll over the house and in the backyard while doing "experiments" and they have held up well. It comes with a booklet on suggested experiments. It is hard to find educational toys for this age range that work well and this one is terrific. I would highly recommend it.

S. Nancy, Cornwall

Bought this kit for my 6 yr old daughter who just started kindergarten (home school). I was looking for a fun & easy yet educational science kit so we could do some experiments. She absolutely loves this kit! we spent time learning what each piece of equipment was first, then we did the first experiment which was using primary colors to make secondary colors. Love the experiments which are on large laminated cards. Easy to understand, fun to do, and most everything needed you already have on hand. I definitely recommend this to anyone with a pre-school or kindergarten aged child who wants to have fun while learning science!

Y. Angelica, Northwest Territries says

This is the third set i've bought. One for my kiddo and two as gifts. The science projects are pretty basic, but all we've used it for is mixing baking sofa and colored vinegar. It's been in our toy '"rotation" for over 3 years, including with my second child more recently. The test tubes are big enough that it doesn't cause much frustration for the little ones or for older kids with dexterity issues. There's enough stuff for two kids to share but i did end up buying some cheap droppers because those are usually fought over and the kit only comes with one.

Z. Guest, Knowsley

My 3 year old loves this set. It is sturdy, and chunky and easy to use. It is definitely the best science kit for the prek age group i have seen. I love that it comes with brightly colored laminated project cards. . The only reason i did not give it 5 stars is that are a few flaws. . 1) the test tube lid is not leak proof. Which is usually not a problem but can be with vigorous shaking and/or if you feel the test tube to the very top. . 2) none of the 10 projects use the flask. This may seem like a small complaint but my daughter is a rule follower and she is sad that none of the experiments direct her to use it. . 3) some of the projects include steps that are impossible. For example, it will tell you to use the tweezers to remove something from the test tube, but the tweezers do not fit in the test tube. . These flaws, notwithstanding, i do love the set and would recommend it.

K. Judith, Maryland says

Great item but for christmas wish i had know the frustration packaging was just a brown box. Not ideal as a gift for a young boy.

P. Watson, Indiana

I've purchased quite a few learning resources products over the years (for myself and for gifts) and i've always been very happy with them. This one is no different: very durable sturdy plastic pieces make up this science kit. It has a very realistic look to the young ones with the "official" beakers and test tubes. The instruction cards are easy to use and printed on large laminated cards, but a lot of times i find the kids just making their own "experiments" which usually involve some mixture of soap, water and art supplies : / the box it came in is sturdy and well made, so we've been able to store it in there instead of buying another new bin, and continues to hold up despite the amount of water used almost every time. We added a towel to the set just so we always have one on hand if mom or dad doesn't notice an experiment taking place until it's too late! . . (i also purchased the color food sorting baskets of theirs, which is another really great-quality product)

T. Anonymous, Reading says

I bought this as a gift for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she loves it! we've already tried mixing colors and playing with baking soda and vinegar. She loves looking at things with the magnifying glass and spent about 15 minutes tonight just running around to "check one more thing" for much longer than i expected. The prop stand built into the magnifying glass seems a little cheap and will likely get broken before long but isn't essential so i'm not too worried if it breaks off.

Q. Joanne, Cumbria

We got this set as a gift for our seven year old son. I was honestly half expecting flimsy plastic, but ordered anyway because he loves to do experiments. I was so impressed by the quality of each piece. The pieces are big and heavy duty plastic. This kit is perfect for kids, seems very durable! i am very excited to give it to him for christmas. This is a toy that will last!
