Learning Resources Super Sorting Pie (LER6216-1) 2690

Review for learning resources super sorting pie

Price was $20.21 - $45.74. This toy has gotten so much use in our house! it's been used in so many different ways; shape sorting, color sorting, counting. Beginning addition and subtraction, etc. We have to be very careful that our almost-four year-old doesn't leave any of the fruit pieces out because her 10 month-old brother loves finding them and putting them in his mouth. This is definitely a toy that will be sticking around in our household for awhile. Our daughter loves it, we love it, and i suspect her brother will love it once he's a bit older.

Learning Resources Super Sorting Pie Review (LER6216-1)

This is our absolute favorite toy for our nearly 3 year old, and is my go-to gift for 3 year old birthday parties. I have given 8 of them away so far! this toy teaches so many skills and you can truly be creative and use it for more than sorting shapes and colors but also use as an aid for counting, learning patterns, etc. We started playing with this with our daughter when she was about 2 and a half, but she only plays with it under close supervision as there are small parts. I can't recommend this toy enough. -O. Bullock

We bought this as a gift for our daughter's third birthday. She is about to turn six and still loves playing with this educational toy. It has quickly become one of our very favorite games to gift as well. It includes a sturdy and really cute pie. The pie comes with 5 different colors (red, orange, yellow, purple, and green) of fruit. There are 60 pieces of fruit! three double sided cards are included: 2 sides show the certain fruits and their colors, 2 sides includes numbers from 1-10, 1 side shows the shape of colorless fruit and the last side shows a color wheel. . The crust and dividers remove so that you can place sorting cards in the bottom of the pie to encourage a sorting activity. It also comes with 2 large tweezers that are perfect for little hands to practice working on fine motor skills. My daughter has always been a sorter and organizer so we knew this would be right up her alley. . My daughter also loves to pulls this out for pretend play and makes us all kinds of different pies in her play kitchen. I really can't recommend this product enough.

She is doing well with learning the names and sorting. As she is only 19 months, she only uses it when we are playing with it together as the pieces are quite small. I try to avoid buying plastic toys usually because i hate the idea of them sitting in a landfill someday, but i think she will use this one for years to come and then we can share it with someone else. It really is nice quality and a great learning tool."

Learning Resources Mental Blox Critical Thinking Game

We love these blocks. As per other reviews we found several ways to use them. 5 yr old looks at card and makes picture, 7 yr and 9 yr build of my describing the picture, and some times we test our memory by looking at picture for a few minutes, then building from memory. The plastic pieces are nice colors, without sharp edges. The box that stores them has cardboard dividers for each individual piece. Love this set!

This is a brain-boosting, block building, make-you think game. Play two ways: analyze the card or listen to a player describe the structure. Mental blox help children practice following verbal instructions, asking questions and building critical thinking skills. Great for the family or classroom.

I purchased this for my 3 year old and he loves it! i know it says for 5 yr old+ but he loves shapes and building blocks and he is able to grow with this because it starts with very basic shape building to more complex project cards. For a boy who is obsessed with cars and trucks, this was a perfect game that holds his interest. -Notice from U. Barbara, California

These are so colorful and well made. My students in ot love these. I start them out by having them reproduce the design on the card. This is challenging enough for many of them. If this is too easy, then i have them look at the card and reproduce from memory. Much more challenging.

- V. HakalaI bought this game for my 3, and 4 year old children. I wanted something that would be a bit educational but still lots of fun. All my children love to build and play with blocks so i thought it would be a hit. Right now the kids just like to look at the pictures and build the structure shown. Basically there are 2 ways to play. 1. You get to look at the card for 10 sec and try to build the structure based off of what you remember. The first team/child to build the structure correctly wins the round. 2. The second way to play is you build the structure then try to follow the clues on the card to alter the structure to solve the clue. As others have said the clues have some pretty intense vocabulary such as "attributes" that seem a bit advanced for the kids but i work on trying to modify the verbage so that my kiddos can still play along. They still have a hard time with this aspect of the game but i like that they can grow with the game. The blocks are colorful and a nice size. My only complaint is the plastic they are made of makes them loud if the kids like to knock down the towers at the end of the game. If i could give this a 4 1/2 i would the only challenge is the vocabulary. This game is a hit in our house. I would recommend this game to any family, and will keep it in mind for when i have to buy toys or games for other children.

I use this game in my public speaking course (freshman-level speech) for college students. We play the game 2 different ways:. . 1) active listening/effective communication: there are about 5-6 students in a group. I have the picture cards. One student from each group will come view the card for 10 seconds and then return to the group to describe how to build the structure in the picture. They have to employ memory skills and effective communication skills during this process. They have to remember the shapes, colors, and patterns on each block and how they were positioned in the picture, and then they have to communicate all of that info back to the group. And when they are actively competing against other teams, it's even more challenging, but it gets them up and moving and working in teams, which is my goal. (15-30 mins). . 2) team-building/small group communication: again, there are about 5-6 students in a group (i would prefer 4 or less, but i only have 2 sets of these blocks). They determine their own roles in the group and what each member will do. Some choose to observe, some prefer to build, and some prefer to interpret the cards and direct the building of the structure. The cards include a picture and a challenge statement at the bottom, so after they build the structure, they must then rebuild the structure according to the challenge statement. Only a few of the challenges have only one answer, so they inadvertently discuss all possible solutions. I generally don't interact with the groups when they are playing this game; i prefer to monitor if and how well their teams are working together and occasionally offer remind them who is hands-on, who is good at interpreting data, and who is a good evaluator or helper. (15-30 mins). . Durability: pretty good. . 1) the cards are printed on slick paper and are fairly durable. 2) the blocks are plastic and get knocked over often. We have linoleum floors in our classrooms so they have endured some abuse. Only one block has broken so far - the sphere - and we just taped it back together and it's still going strong. . What you get:. . 1) the cards are double-sided and include 40 puzzles total. They range from easy to difficult. 2) there are 2 sets of blocks included, which allows (for me) only 2 teams to be working from the same set of cards. . For $18, i have gotten a lot of use out of this critical-thinking game. I will most likely add 2 more sets to my collection, to facilitate more group activities in the classroom. The only downside is i have only been able to incorporate the game once per semester, but that could just be a lack of creativity on my part.

Melissa & Doug Scissor Skills Activity Book With Pair of Child-Safe Scissors 20 Pages

I was bummed when i opened this and saw that the scissors didn't even have a metal edge. And then i used them on the paper and was pleasantly surprised at how well they cut! we have a set of regular pre-k scissors that do have a metal edge and these are definitely easier to use with this workbook. I love how colorful and modern the pages are! what we like to do is have my daughter cut everything out, and then i give her construction paper and a glue stick and have her put it all back together how ever she wants to. Really great scissor skills book!

Kids love to cut with scissors as you can see by the trail of scraps often left in their wake! this creative and practical activity pad gives an engaging, creative direction to scissor work, meaning more concentration and less mess. Organized from simple to more complex, 20 different paper cutting projects (with complete supplies included right in the pages of the book) practice slightly different skills and techniques, and produce 20 unique crafts, games, and activities to offer kids a creative focus and a sense of accomplishment. Plastic safety scissors are included, which naturally encourage proper form and are safe for preschoolers but any pair of scissors can be used to complete the paper-cutting projects.

What a wonderful activity book, this is perfect for any child who loves all crafts. This book will help them learn to cut and other activities. I got this for my granddaughter for christmas, she loves to cut with scissors and i thought this would help her. This will help her to learn how to cut properly, it offers so much for that. Plus this book has other activities for her too, this is a all around great book. . I highly recommend this great activity book. -Notice from W. Gloria, Sheffield

My daughters teacher needed my child to practice her cutting, i saw this and thought it might encourage her and make learning to cut fun. . The reason i give this product 4 stars is because the scissors included were useless, they couldn't cut the paper at all, and it just led to my child becoming frustrated and giving up on the task - not something i wanted happening when teaching a new skill, i wanted the experience to be fun and encouraging. . However the little cutting projects inside the booklet did grasp her attention and she definitely wanted to do them. . After purchasing a new pair of scissors (metal this time) i reintroduced the book and had much better results. Her cutting along lines ability improved greatly and she had a lot of fun with this book. . So i definitely recommend this product, but i also do suggest buying a better quality pair of scissors. I have kept the scissors for her to use with playdough but they are not good for paper. !

- O. SusanaI am using this with my 3-1/2 year old son to teach him scissor skills. It came with orange plastic child-safe scissors, which we didn't need but i appreciate anything "extra" included when purchasing teaching items or toys. The book includes 20 full-color removable pages with different pictures and cutting lessons on each page. The lessons range in difficulty from straight lines to circles and more intricate shapes. I was impressed with the color and print quality of these pages, and the dotted lines are obvious enough to help provide direction for cutting. . After a quick lesson on how to make a few snips with the scissors, i left my son to cut up the first page, a barn scene. He was very excited and proud of himself after he cut the first three straight lines, so i praised him and gave him direction to do the other lines on those (now) strips. That part, he struggled with more, cutting in between the dashed lines instead. Following his "creative" cutting on the second round, he was very enthusiastic to keep cutting more pages. This brings me to the only reason i gave this item 4 stars out of 5; i would love it to have more pages! i feel that 20 pages will be gone through very quickly so i will be rationing them. If you are looking for an easy-to-use, complete resource for teaching scissor skills, i recommend this tool.

This is a beautiful, well-done cutting book. The pages are so pretty that we have kept several of them to use to make greeting cards to mail to family and friends. I love the variety of shapes that my 3 year old son is expected to cut around. I am very pleased with this cutting book. I actually did not know that the scissors came with the book, and i was surprised that my son was very interested in these. I had just "upgraded" him to his very own (round tipped) metal scissors made for children, while he had previously had similar plastic ones. I am not sure if it was the glitter in these scissors or just because they were new and different, but my son definitely enjoyed using these.

The F.A.Q. for Learning Resources Super Sorting Pie (LER6216-1)

The daycare had this toy when my oldest son was two. He would grab it first thing every morning and sit down to play with it, not caring we were dropping him off - he had the pie toy. My youngest son turned two, and remembering how much his older brother (now 4) loved it at 2 years old, i bought it for his birthday. My 2 year old really likes the pie. But my 4 year old still loves this pie. When he was two he sorted the fruits. He isn't sorting the fruit so much anymore, but picking them up with the tweezers, counting the fruits, and making up pretend games with the fruits. He presented the pea, corn and carrot show the other night, pretending the bananas were corn, the oranges were carrots and the peas were the peas. The "show" was a skit he had thought up with singing and dancing about the veggies. He has been arranging "deliveries" in his toy cars, making mixed vegetables, and adding different fruits (2 oranges and 3 bananas 5 fruits). I honestly don't know if its something with my kid, or this toy, but hours of entertainment from a simple pie. (fyi - the fruit is small so it is a choke hazard and not necessarily recommended for a 2 year old. )

A number of questions have been asked here.

Perfect toy for the preschooler learning to count and sort. At the time i wanted a toy for my child that didn't require batteries and was fun and educational. I purchased this as a christmas gift for my three year old in 2015. A year later, she still enjoys playing with this toy. It has helped her learn her colors, count, and improve her fine motor skills. Over time she has got better at using the tweezers to grasp the fruit pieces. The pie pan, shell, and tweezers, are a very durable plastic which holds up to drops.

Nice and compact, but wouldn't give to younger children or those who still mouth things since fruit are quite small. Fruit can be sorted in different ways, sure to keep little one absorbed for quite some time - by number, color, shape and type of fruit. I thought all the orange fruit were oranges until a 3 yr old informed us some were "orange plums" - sure enough, at closer inspection they were apricots! good for fine motor skills too when tweezers are used. Great montessori-type learning toy!

This was an excellent buy. My "5-second attention span" 2 year old played happily with this toy for quite a while. I wanted something educational and it certainly is. He started by sorting the fruit according to colors then went on to try sorting by fruit type. He loves using the tweezers to move the pieces and found it quite easy from first try. We can also use this for counting in the future. The product is very high quality, brightly colored and i would certainly recommend it for 2-4 year olds. The only thing i would change would be to have laminated or thicker material for the sorting card at the bottom.

Love it! great education and entertainment toy. The fruits are very realistic, they have nice texture and weigh. They just feel good to the touch. There so many options to play with this toy (sorting, counting, prepend play as food. ) my toddler love it. The tweezers are still work in progress, but that's what's keep us occupied as well. One thing i would recommend is a different texture for the peaches and oranges. They are both look nearly the same. It's hard to distinguish them apart. Regardless we realy like this toy a lot.

I first saw this in a preschool classroom and knew i wanted to find one for my daughter. We gave it to her for her third birthday. She gets it out and plays with it everyday, and we were pleasantly surprised that her 6-year old sister likes to play with it too! they love the tweezers and to sort by color, by type or to just "serve" the fruits. With some assistance, it is also a great counting manipulative and has the versatility for the sorting and counting to grow in complexity throughout the preschool and kindergarten years. The tweezers are also a good fine motor-skill manipulative. The set is well made and sturdy. We keep it in the storage box, putting it away on the shelf after each use so that the fruits don't get mixed in with the other toys. This works to both keep the set intact and to make it a "special" toy that is well-looked after. While it costs a little more than some toys, i think it was worth the price for both its educational value and pure enjoyment as a toy.

Super fast! i gave this order yesterday morning and received it in the evening. My 21 month old baby liked it so much. Usually she doesn't play with the same toy for a long time but this toy kept her busy and she enjoyed it very much. The tounge that comes with it to grap the items is little hard for her to use so she couldn't use that but i gave her a spoon instead. I guess she needs some time to learn to use the tongue. This toy comes with three different paper to put it at the bottom of the pie. One of them is sorting by color, the second one is sorting by the type of the fruit and the third one is the numbers. I usually don't write comments but i liked this item very much that's why i couldn't help writing. I highly recommend it.

I especially wanted to get this pie for my son because he likes to watch the "backyardigan's" and i told him this was "the great pie". He loves thinking of this pie in that context. I use this pie along with math flash cards to teach him to add and subtract. The pie was bigger than i expected and each counter is about the size of one of those large globe grapes that you find in the grocery store. My son has scattered them on the floor and usually i would be worried that they might end up in the heating ducts but the pieces are big enough they can't get through the grates. The pieces are big but they would still fit in a small mouth so i would monitor very small children with this toy. I love how you can use the upper pie crust to dump all the pieces into so they don't roll away while you are using the bottom part for sorting or counting games. This item is very useful, i recommend it for any child who's parents are either home schooling or trying to help their children practice their basic skills at home.

This truly is one of the best purchases we have made yet! we plan to home school our little one and we pick up books and crafts and educational toys almost weekly. This learning toy is the best one yet! the pie shell is made of durable plastic and the fruit pieces are made of rubber. The tongs are made of strong plastic as well. It comes with 5 different fruits/colors. It definitely holds my 4 yr old boys attention quite well for at least 10 min of independent play. I can see this game promoting fine motor skills, sorting skills, counting skills, shape recognition, color recognition, math skills and independent play. It truly has endless learning possibilities! i wish they had one in vegetables too!

My 3 year old loves this toy. Working with the tongs has definitely improved her fine motor skills and she enjoys sorting and counting these - mostly she just loves to "bake a pie" or make "fruit salad" for all of her stuffed animals though. Still cute and worth the price - good imaginative fun and also good educational fun, depending on how you play with it.

Good toy for small motor practice, color recognition, shape sorting, etc. If you have a toddler that still puts things in his or her mouth, please be cautious as the pieces are small. All of the pieces are bright, colorful, well made and quite sturdy but the tongs are a bit stiff for a toddler to squeeze, therefore making it difficult for them to grasp and release the fruit. Also, keep in mind that children under 4 will probably be gain the most educational benefit from this toy if an adult is playing and supervising as there are many, many little parts to keep track of.

We started home schooling our boys and have been looking for good math manipulatives that both my 2 and 4 year old can use and enjoy. This hit the nail on the head for sure. We debated several similar options, to include counting bears, before deciding on this for the price and functionality of it. We love the large, life-like pieces of fruit for the "pie" and the fact that it came with 60 pieces. My youngest child generally knows not to put objects in his mouth, but the large fruit give the extra reassurance that he is not going to pop it in his mouth without my noticing (he has not yet tried this thankfully! ). . My boys love playing with this together as well as individually if i'm working on something one-on-one with the other child. The activity cards that come with it range in difficulty (3 double sided cards), so for example i can use the color card for my 2 year old to sort by color and the counting card for my 4 year old to sort by number. I see this being used for a while in our home as the fruit themselves can be used for math manipulatives outside of the sorting pie activities. . Another reason we appreciate this is it exercises fine motor skills using the tweezers to pick up the fruit. Both my kids struggled when they first started using the sorting pie tweezers but have since mastered using them. This is also great for pre-writing skills for my youngest son. If the math and motor skills aren't enough, this pie also brings out my boy's imaginations. They love "baking pies" for mommy and daddy! . . Although all the pieces - including the tweezers - fit inside of the pie itself, the pie does not close securely which is probably the only "con" i can think of. If you have a leveled shelf to place it on, this isn't an issue. We keep it in the box it came with so that we can store it upright as this was just more convenient for us. The box is sturdy enough that this has not been an issue.

I'm amazed by the quality of this super sorting pie. The colors are bright, the fruit doesn't feel cheap and it is very detailed. My 3 year old loves it. Inside there a multiple ways to sort the fruit. You can sort by color, by fruit type and counting 1-10. The tweezers to pick the fruit up is a perfect size for my son's small hands, but at the same time makes him work to get each piece picked up. He requests to play with his pie all the time. The pieces and sorting cards all fit perfectly inside with a cute little pie top for storage. I'm very happy with this purchase and can't recommend it enough.

This was a huge hit with my children (ages 6, 3, and 1). They played so nicely together and had a blast. My youngest is very ocd and she thought it was great that you had to sort out these little fruits into the pie. She also doesn't put things in her mouth as most one-year-olds typically do. So if your baby puts things in their mouth, this is not for them. Comes with 60 fruit (6 yellow grapefruits, 6 yellow bananas, 6 green bananas, 6 green apples, 6 red apples, 6 red berries, 6 purple berries, 6 purple plums, 6 orange oranges, and 6 orange apricots), 2 tongs, 3 double-sided sorting cards, a pie pan, a pie crust with 5 dividers, and a pie crust top that can be used as a bowl to put the fruit while the kids are sorting them out. The sorting card options: by color, by fruit and color, by fruit, by numbers 1-5 or 6-10. It all seems to be made from very durable plastic. My nieces and nephews (ages 4, 2, and 1) came over and played with it as well and my nephew did put them in his mouth. He even tried to chew on them and i saw no tooth marks on the fruit afterwards. I highly recommend this product! it is great to help children with fine motor skills, how to sort things based on one attribute, learning their numbers and how to count.

(fyi - the fruit is small so it is a choke hazard and not necessarily recommended for a 2 year old. )
