Review for lost cities the card game

Price was $13.97. I bought this game based solely on good reviews and am very happy with it. It's simple, but that's what i love most about it. We have a ton of strategy games and sometimes i just want to relax and not think too much. This game is perfect for that. . The theme is pretty irrelevant, but it's nice they tried, i guess. There are five different colors of cards, one for each of the numbers 1-10, as well as 3 bet cards for each that multiply your scores. Each player takes turns placing a card either in a column in front of them to earn points, or into a discard pile, always of the corresponding color, then they draw a card from the deck or from one of the discard piles. The cost of starting a column is 20 points. Each card you lay down in a column must correspond to that column, and must increase in value (ie. 2, 4, 7, 9, 10). After the last card is drawn, the round immediately ends and you add up your points. With each column, you add up the numerical values of the cards you place (with my previous example of 2, 4, 7, 9, 10, that column would equal 32 points), then you subtract the 20 points it costs you for starting a column of that color (so then that column is worth 12 points). You do that for each color column you've placed cards for, add it all together, and then that is your total for that round (you play three rounds). There also betting cards as i have mentioned. They must be placed before any numbers have been placed. You can play multiple bets on top of each other, but once you have place a number, you cannot place more bets on that column. So, with the same example, if you had played 2 betting cards, followed by 2, 4, 7, 9, 10, you would add up your numerical cards to get 32, then subtract the 20, then your bet card would go into affect. So with 2 betting cards, that 12 points is now tripled into 36. This makes starting a column even more hazardous because if you place 2 betting cards, and fail to place any numbered cards, your total for that column is the negative 20 it cost you to start it, tripled! that would not go so good for you. There's just enough luck mixed with strategy that anyone can win, and it ain't over til it's over, as they say. . The game goes quickly, you don't have to talk, you don't have to pay attention to what the other player is doing (unless you want to pick up a card they've discarded), and there's not much to think about. Sometimes you need a game like that. Maybe that's not the type of game for you but it's very relaxing for me, especially with so many rounds of settlers, dominion, etc. Under my belt.

Lost cities is a great 2-player card game that is fun for both serious and casual gamers. . The goal of the game is to play cards that are in 5 different expeditions (suits) which correspond with the colors of the cards. Each turn you either play or discard one card and then draw a new card so that you always have 8 in your hand. You can only play a card if it is higher numbered than the last card you played in that expedition - so no playing a blue 5 if you already played a blue 6. There are also 3 investment cards that you can play for each expedition. These double, triple, and quadruple the points earned for the expedition. . At the end of the game you add up all the cards in each expedition and subtract 20 from each. . The strategy of the game comes into play based on the scoring and determining which expeditions to start. Once you start an expedition it will be scored. If all you play is just a yellow 2, you've just earned yourself -18 points for the yellow expedition - not good! . . There is also a lot of strategy in determinig which cards to discard, as your opponent can draw from these. This white 8 doesn t help me, but it might be just what my opponent needs! . . The only negative is determining the score at the end of the game. Get your pen and paper or calculator out! . . Other than that, this is an excellent card game that is easy to learn but has a lot of depth! 7 Wonders Duel Board Game

This game is very well designed and balanced for 2 players as for the few games i played with it, it felt tense and a very tight pull on the balance as the advantage was quickly shifting to and fro. As much as you would play conservatively, the minor luck (cards revealing under taken cards) will always allow your opponent to disrupt any possible plans that you already cleverly conceived in your head. That to me is a delightful moment in a board game as you are always kept on your toes as you have to react with your own counterattacks to shift back the advantage. . Military and scientific victory are very hard to achieve and still it's fun trying to win by this way. Basically this 2 types of victory requires you to overwhelm your opponent by force (red buildings) or science (green buildings). It in a way forces your opponent to go for these 2 types even though typically they don't, a very different situation from the original 7w, where there is little penalty for ignoring either. It increases the pressure for the player from being overwhelmed. . Thematically, i love the wonders and what they do and generally you are building up your civilization in this ancient world. The artwork are beautiful and the icons delightful to look at. Another thing i liked is the mini-cards which represents your improvements, as i have limited table size and the card size makes it easier to organize. . There are many ways to gain points which might led you into a dilemma sometimes but the same way doesn't works every time as the cards sequence and/or your opponent also differs. The best play will come out for those players who can adapt best with what they have currently, and have a good foresight for the upcoming routes to take for the maximum points possible. This adaptive strategy trait of this game makes it very dynamic and active, which i always appreciate in a sit-down game of board game. . It plays in roughly 1 hour for me and my play-mate and it's always so satisfying. Certainly 1 of my top games in 2016. Recommended for those who loved the original 7w and have only a single friend to play it with.

One of the most celebrated games in the world can now be experienced in a two-player arena. 7 wonders duel takes the game play and excitement of the original and adapts it for one-on-one battles. Take control of your civilization and decide to invest in science, military or prestige. Two new ways to win will keep you on your toes and watching every move your opponent makes. If you fail to build defenses your capital city may be destroyed, but ignore technology and your people may be left in the dark ages. It's a constant tug of war. 7 wonders duel is an exciting new way to play the game that took the world by storm. Great for both fans of the original and those new to the hobby.

See 7 Wonders Duel Board Game (Asmodee) FAQ.

We've had the game for awhile now. I like it but don't love it. It plays with a lot of the same aspects as the original 7 wonders. Having a 2 player game is nice and the box is fairly small so we bring it to coffee shops to play sometimes although you do need a larger table to play on to be able to build the card pyramid. I am undefeated at the game still! my husband has almost refused to play with me. Ha! and i like games i win at. However one aspect that we both don't like is the green tokens or chips. We feel like there are a couple powerful ones maybe worth going for but overall we end up never even go for those and instead we trash the green cards for coins usually. I know they threw in the green scientology cards to try to match the original game but it just didn't work as well as we expected. But overall we still like the game but to be honest we probably prefer the 2 player all creatures big and small more as a two player game. -Notice from A. Benton, Bretagne

If you aren't thrilled with the 2-player version of the original 7 wonders game, you'll probably find duel to be a major improvement. Duel pares down some of the complexity of 7 wonders while at the same time adding intrigue. In each of the three ages, a matrix of cards is formed so that only a few cards are available at one time. Many of the cards are also face-down until activated, which creates quite a bit of tension during the game. . There are three paths to victory in duel: producing buildings and wonders, collecting six science symbols, or reaching the maximum level on the military conquest track. I've played about 10 games to this point, and it's clear that setting up production to earn victory points is the dominant strategy. Focusing solely on the science or conquest path can be rough. Be flexible, though - your opponent's moves may point out the best path. . Some ratings. Learning curve: low. Newcomers should grasp the game easily within 15 minutes, even without knowing how to play 7 wonders. Game flow: quick. There are few (but many times tough) decisions to make on a turn. Since this is only a 2-player game, you don't have to wait long for your next turn. Intensity: above average. Even though duel's strategy is rather light, you're often faced with the dilemma of taking a good card while potentially revealing a card that gives your opponent exactly what they need. Replayability: above average. Each game feels different since not all components are in play every time, and the card matrix helps randomize outcomes. Theme: average. During the game, i'm focused more on what the card gives me rather than the building or wonder itself. The original 7 wonders does a little better in this area. Component quality: average. The building cards are of the smaller euro-size, but this helps reduce the size of the card matrix. The box insert is designed well to organize game components. The wonder cards tend to warp over time. . Overall, duel is one of the best 2-player games in my collection, especially if i'm looking for a quick 30-minute game. Strong recommend.

7-wonders-duel-board-game-(asmodee) set picture

- R. ReedI love 7 wonders. I own every expansion of the game and it makes it out on my game table a lot. Having said that, the 2 player variant in 7 wonders sucked. It took forever to set up and it just was awkward having that neutral city where most of the time my opponent would siphon money from them. So when i heard of 7 wonders duel i was beyond excited. . When i opened the package and brought the components out i was impressed. The military board and pawn look amazing; the wonder cards are sharp. My only complaint is i personally did not like the size of the age cards. I really wanted them to be playing card size. . The game's mechanics is where this game shines. It has a similar feel to the original but it is its own entity. The multiple victory conditions, the unique drafting mechanism, the progress abilities, and the new card effects are just some of the things that make this game different. . I love this game. I play it a lot with my friend. Its easy to set up, and plays quickly once you get a feel for the rules. This game still gets five stars besides the fact of my component complaint. If you have 7 wonders or have always wondered what the game was about, you should buy this game.

This is an excellent two player game. I have played several times and always a different result. I love how the game is tense from the very first play. Do i go first or second can be a serious game changer, it is up to you? many ways to win makes the game tense as it progresses. I love how you must by some military to win. I hated how some people in the original 7 wonders would have no military and suffer only minor point losses (it seems a little unrealistic). Pros:. Fast game. Starts with important decisions immediately. Variable ways to win. Symbols are cards really help game play (i rarely use the rule book because the symbols make it clear what a card does). Each time period plays very differently due to the way the cards are placed on the table. There is very little luck in this game. You win with good planning and strategy. Every game will be different as random cards are pulled out so you can not card count and plan everything. . Cons:. Cards are very small. It is all out fight from turn one (one bad move and you will pay for it immediately). Not a friendly card game. You need to be prepared to think ahead and plan.

Patchwork Board Game

Summary - don't let the theme scare you off - patchwork is one of the best two player games you can play! . . How to play - in patchwork you are trying to fill a 9x9 square with pieces from a quilt. Each piece is shaped differently creating a tetris like puzzle that is great fun to try and solve. . On a turn you take one of 3 available pieces and add it to your board. Each piece has a price and takes a specified amount of time which advances you towards the end of the game. Some pieces also have buttons on them which earn you additional buttons (money) at certain points of the game, allowing you to buy better pieces. . Each turn you have to weigh the price of a piece, vs. How well it fits on your board, vs. How much time it costs, etc. It's leads to some really interesting, tough decisions. . At the end of the game you add up all your buttons and subtract two points for each empty space to determine your score. . Who is the game for - couples! perfect game for a date night at home. . Pros - great depth to complexity ratio. - building a puzzle with tetris pieces is just fun! . - great components. . Cons - theme may not appeal to everyone.

Patchwork is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design. In the past, it was a way to make use of leftover pieces of cloth to create clothing and quilts. Today, patchwork is a form of art, in which the designers use precious fabrics to create beautiful textiles. The use of uneven pieces of fabric in particular can result in real masterpieces and is therefore being practiced by a large number of textile artists. To create a beautiful quilt, however, requires effort and time, but the available patches just do not want to fit together. So choose your patches carefully and keep a healthy supply of buttons to not only finish your quilt, but to make it better and more beautiful than your opponent s.

Patchwork Board GameMayfair-Games-MFG3505-Patchwork-Board

See Patchwork Board Game (Mayfair Games) FAQ.

A game about quilting. That kinda threw me for a bit but everyone and their sister were raving about it so i had to find out for myself. Turns out, everyone and their sisters were right. . Patchwork is a game for exactly 2 players, ages 8+ and plays in about 30-45 minutes. . How to play. . Thankfully this game involves no actual sewing because the last time i tried that i ended up in the er with a sheepish grin on my face. You ll find patchwork to be a bit different than your average game in both set up and play. To begin with, each player will take a quilt board representing their as of yet not started sewing project. The quilt board is divided up into a number of 1 1 squares. They ll then take 5 buttons (the currency in the game) and a time token. . There s a third board in the game which is the central time board. Players will each place their time token on the starting space of the time board. Now, the most fun setup can really begin. There are a whole bunch of patches shaped, tetris-like tokens that you re going to arrange randomly in a (fairly large) circle around the time board. Locate the smallest patch (a 1 2 square patch) and place the wooden neutral token between that and the next patch, going clockwise. Each of these patch tokens will have a little tag image on it that will show a number next to a button to indicate how many buttons they cost, and a number next to a timer icon, to indicated how many spaces on the time board you ll move your time token if you choose that patch. . Lastly, you ll lay out the special 7 7 bonus token and place the five special 1 1 patches on the time board. . The first thing you should know is that patchwork doesn t necessarily alternate turns. The player who s time token is furthest back on the time board will get the next turn, which could (and will) mean players take multiple turns in a row. . On your turn, you can do one of two things. Advance your time token to the space just after the other player s time token on the time board and get yourself some buttons or take and place a patch on your patch board. . In the first option you ll receive as many buttons as spaces you ve moved to get past the other player s time token advance three spaces, get three buttons. And that s it, since the other player s time token is now behind yours, it s their turn. Remember, buttons are currency in this game. . If you choose to take a patch, you ve got to follow these five steps. First, the patch must be within three patches in front of the neutral token you placed amidst all those patches in the game setup. Second, you ll move the neutral token to be next to the patch you ve chosen. Third, you pay the number of buttons indicated on the patch (some patches are free). Fourth, you will place the patch you just bought on your quilt board. Last, you move your time token on the time board the number of spaces indicated on the patch token you just placed on your quilt board. . Some of the spaces on the time board have some special powers on them. There are five special patches, which are 1 1, leather looking patches. These can only be gotten off the time board, and you only receive them if you are the first to move your time token onto or past them. The second special power are the button icons. If you move past a button icon, you then receive button tokens! look at your quilt board many (but not all) patches will have graphics of buttons sewn into them count each individual button and take that many button tokens. . When you re placing that patch on your quilt board, you have to follow a few simple rules too. You can flip or turn the patch any way you like as long as it fits entirely on the board and doesn t overlap any other patches. That s where the tetris aspect of the game comes in. . Finally, there s a special 7 7 token the first player to fill in a 7 7 grid completely on their quilt board receives this token and scores an extra 7 points at the end of the game. Speaking of which . . End of the game and scoring. The game ends when both player s time tokens reach the last space on the time board and players determine their scores. Add up the number of button tokens you have left, and subtract 2 points for each empty 1 1 spaces on your quilt board. That s your score. If you had for example 11 buttons left and had managed to snag the 7 7 token, you d start off with 18 points. If you had six empty spaces (6*2 12) you d subtract 12 from 18 and end the game with 6 points. . Why you should play. . Answer this question truly and honestly. How many games in your collection have a sewing or quilting theme? now how many games in your collection with this theme are really engaging, allow for some interesting and thinky strategy, have just a bit of a puzzle aspect to them, allow you to build something of substance during the game, and are extremely well balanced? . . Patchwork checks all of these boxes and does so in a really compelling way. You re looking ahead in the patches portion of the table to see where the neutral token will next fall, while trying to calculate how many spaces forward you want to move to get more buttons and maybe grab that 1 1 patch you need to fill in your 7 7 grid so you can finally get that extra points token. You re opponent is doing that very same thing too, and perhaps plotting a way to take two turns before you ll get your next so that the neutral token will skip over that one patch you really need. . It s a lot of fun and sometimes a little frustrating in that good oh, i can t believe you just did that to me! kind of way. I ve enjoyed quite a few games while waiting for another friend to show up or between my wife and i or luca and i. Patchwork hits that sweet spot of a 2 player filler game that doesn t overstay it s welcome and still offers a complete gaming experience. It s what i d expect from uwe rosengberg who s designed (among many, many wonderful games) another tight, small game i love, bohnanza. . Be warned however, for such a small box the game ends up taking up quite a bit of space! it s those patches you ve got to spread about. There s a whole bunch of them! other than that extremely minor thing i don t have much in the way of criticism rather i m still pleasantly surprised that a game with a quirky theme is so much fun. -Notice from A. This is a recent game from the highly esteemed german game designer: uwe rosenberg. His previous titles have spanned a broad spectrum of depth and size. Games like agricola, caverna, ora et labora, and le havre are massive, complex games (though all fantastic in their own right). But he also has more compact and accessible games like bohnanza, le havre: inland port and agricola: all creatures big and small. Patchwork fits nicely into the latter category. . Pros:. * easy to teach. Even non-gamers could learn the few rules to the game in about 5 minutes. * highly replayable. * rewarding strategic depth. * great depth/length ratio. You can complete a game in under 30 minutes but still feel like you were able to put a lot of thought into it. * limited choices can help prevent analysis paralysis. You are either taking income or picking a tile. If you pick a tile, you have only three options. Most turns take less than 30 seconds which keeps the game moving quickly. . Cons:. * setup, while not a significant burden, does take a few minutes to get all the components sorted and lined up. * jagged pieces occasionally don't quite fit within each other and can get stuck. * requires a lot of table space for just a two-player game. * perhaps this isn't even so much of a con as an important thing to be aware of, but this game is purely deterministic. Meaning, once the initial setup is complete, there's no inherent randomness to the game. It is just your opponent's decisions and yours. As such, this can lead to a skills gap where a better player can easily beat another player who is not as good or less experienced. This is by no means a flaw of the game-clearly it's inherent to the design-but it's something to be aware of going in. If you want a two-player game that uses randomness to lessen the disparity in player skill, something like jaipur or morels might be to your liking. . In short, this is a fantastic game that should be considered by all board gamers who ever play with just two players. It does a few drawbacks, but they are greatly overshadowed by the low price and tremendous depth and replayability of the game.

- S. ShaynaPatchwork seems like a simple concept, but you do have to make a lot of meaningful decisions as you play. The components of the game are great, and the theme is incorporated nicely into the game play. Those "tetris" like quilt pieces have to be fitted onto your quilt square all while trying to get the most coverage you can. Also, the pieces with buttons on them score you extra buttons to buy more pieces with. However, when purchasing pieces to go on your quilt square, you have a "time" price and button price. This can cause you to go further up on the board, and the person who is at the back gets to go next each time. Deceptively strategic for such a simple looking game!

Fantastic game! my girlfriend and i have been playing this a few times per week. While the theme is a patchwork quilt, don't let that deter you. It provides a nice whimsical theme as a backdrop to fantastic mechanics! the gameplay revolves around an economy and time management as it relates to the purchase of tetris style pieces that you place on your personal board. Each piece you buy costs both currency, in the form of buttons, and time in the form the piece that you are placing. Players are forced to strategize against each other as they pick and choose their pieces. Each player can only choose one of the next three pieces, so you must decide if and what to allow the other player to purchase. As the game progresses, you must ramp up your button currency economy while placing as many pieces as you can. When the game concludes, your score is calculated by both the missing squares on your board and your current supply of buttons. I highly recommend this game to couples, as it was designed for two players. Otherwise, i'd say anyone who enjoys spacial reasoning and tetris!

Carcassonne Board Game

I love carcassonne, and as someone who hasn't won even one game of carcassonne yet, that's telling you something. Probably why i'm so intent on playing it. Super easy to learn, and we've only played the basic version of it (just using the meeples). We love settlers of catan, but that game isn't as fun with just two people. I think carcassonne is perfect for 2+ people and for all ages, because it really is simple. It's always interesting to see how the tiles are laid out by the end of the game. Though luck is a huge factor (i. E. Which tiles you pull), there is some strategy involved depending on the ever-changing layout. Highly recommend. Really hoping i win one of these days.

The carcassonne is a clever tile-laying game. The southern french city of carcassonne is famous for its unique roman and medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious. The game is for ages 8 and up and 2 to 5 players.

See Carcassonne Board Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

This game has great re-play value since the board is different every time, and if you ditch the box (in favor of, say, a bag), this is a great game to take traveling, even back-packing because you can play on any decent-sized flat surface (like a coffee table). Also, because the game is purely about shapes, patterns and images, this is a great game for international (i. E. Multi-language) play, because it is not language-specific. As long as one person can explain the rules, the actual game play is language independent. -Notice from S. Lynette, Brighton and Hove

Got this newer version as a christmas gift. I have an older one, and it is a fantastic game for 2 people. Was a bit wary of a "new" one, but this appears to be just the same, aside from some new art on the cards.

- P. AudreyMy favorite games are catan, ticket to ride, and dominion. I wanted try a new game and this one had great reviews. It was totally worth it! first i played with my boyfriend, then we got my roommates to play the next 15 rounds. Every free moment i have now i beg someone to play with me! it seriously doesnt matter if all 5 people are playing or if just 2 play, it is just as fun! seriously suggest this to anyone who likes a strategy game that can be replayed 100 times without it being the same game twice!

This game is well made and great fun. The rules are clear and i like that they start off with a simple set of tiles and rules, then allow you to add more tiles and rules with the included mini-expansions. I would go so far as to say that for me personally, this is my favorite board game. I prefer it to settlers, scrabble, monopoly, risk etc. The game play is simple to teach but strategic so you can continue to replay it and enjoy the game. . This game includes tiles, a scoreboard and playing pieces ("meeples"). It includes a couple mini-expansions of "the river" and "the abbot". . I highly recommend using the river from the second or third time you play. It adds some nice tiles to begin with, and by building out in a more or less straight line allows you to build a much more open board for players to build off of once the "real" game starts. The only reason i suggest using the regular tiles first is just to get a feel of how different and more open it is with the river. . We play with the abbot as well and that adds another level of strategy. . I find that playing two players is a bit of an intense game because every turn you know that whatever you play you are setting the table for the next player. It is fun and about half the games i played have been 2 player games. The scoreboard and "looping" around the board can be a bit of a problem with 2 players but not a big deal. . We are going to try the house rule of holding 3 tiles and see if that adds to the strategy, but it is a lot of fun with the rules as-is. . I have since purchased carcassonne 1 - inns and cathedrals and carcassonne 2 - traders and builders (2015), but i've only used i&c once. Honestly the base game + the river + abbot is great fun by itself and i'm not sure for most people i would recommend anything past that unless you have a regular group of gamers you play with. . Base game + river (and not playing with farmers) is easy enough to teach people as they are playing the game and since each tile is flipped one at a time and there is nothing "hidden" in your hand it's easy to play and walk through the turns together.

The F.A.Q. for Lost Cities - Card Game (Thames Kosmos)

My husband and i love to play two-player games, but good ones are hard to come by. This is a fun combination of strategy and luck, with a sort of "gambling" element added in. The rules are very simple, so it only takes a few minutes to learn how to play, but as you learn the game, the various possible approaches become more evident and it becomes exciting to strategize. It can also be played in 20-30 minutes which is a huge upside. I highly recommend this as one of the best two-player games we've ever played!

I got this game after finding it recommended on several 2-player game advice forums around the web. It's just my husband and i and we needed games made for 2. This game, though not a favorite of his, was quite fun and fast and i really enjoy it. If you like a quick game that doesn't mean each person taking a minute for their turn, this game is for you. Awesome "one game before bed" type of game. It moves very fast and is a nice change of pace from other games. It's like uno in that you can just go, go, go. I'd recommend giving it a try.

I bought this for my son several years ago. When i finally learned to play it this year, i noticed that the cards were sticky and bent up. So, i bought my son a new game. My son is 27 and i'm 56 and we both like playing the game. The fun thing is that either of us can win. There's strategy and luck equally combined to make a great game. It can be decided if you want to play 1 round, 5 rounds or more. I like to play 4 rounds as a game, but my son and his friend will turn over a card and that will be the number of rounds they play to equal a came. It's a fast card game, but one can also do a stall technique if they have more cards in their hand to play. I wish i would have started playing it earlier when i bought the first game. This game is played several times a week.

One of the best two player board games to ever exist.

Q. Garner, Louisiana

This is a fun, quick game that is accessible to virtually anyone. If you're trying to introducing gaming to people who have never played a "modern" game or who only enjoy things like poker, this is a game to try. It can sometimes be frustratingly challenging, and sometimes deceptively simple. There is definitely an element of luck in how the deck is shuffled - those cards you desperately need could be on the bottom of the deck and will never become available. There's also some push your luck in deciding when to wager (and how much) and when to skip cards to get things moving along. There's player interaction in the form of discarding cards that your opponent may pick up, which means you'll need to be watching what they're playing as much as what you're playing.

T. Meredith, Ile-de-France says

Great maybe the best two player game. Plays quick under 30 minuets quality cards, and well written instructions.

C. Harrison, Virginia

I bought this card game because i wanted a 2-player game to enjoy with my husband. The rules are simple but the gameplay allows for quite a bit of strategy and opportunity to learn your opponent. We've enjoyed playing it together and also play against our 8-year old son. He picked the game up quickly but it was too difficult for our 6-year old. The box says for ages 10+, but this was my experience. . The cards have a good quality feel and the game box is sturdy. The graphics are nice, but personally i don't feel they add much to the game. . We've owned it about 2 months now and now keep a running score. The game doesn't come with score cards or tally sheets, but a quick search on the internet brought up several printable versions. Since the game only consists of cards and a playing board, there is plenty of room to store a pencil and small paper in the plastic insert or larger pieces of paper under the plastic insert. (we chose to keep score digitally in a spreadsheet. ). . The product description includes accurate pictures of the box, playing board, and cards. I've taken a couple photos of the inside in case anyone is interested in how it fits together on the inside. Hope this review helps.

T. Eva, Mississippi says

This is a fantastic card game for two players. It is easy to learn, and you can play a game in 20 minutes. The game plays out sort of like competitive solitaire, but with the right mix of strategy and luck to make it compelling. It is the perfect evening game for me and my wife after a hard day's work. . Note, the game cards themselves are a bit flimsy. My wife spilled her coffee on the cards and, in spite of wiping them off nearly immediately, a number of them were ruined. We actually had to purchase another game to get the cards, and i also bought a set of sleeves that were designed to fit the game. I considered taking a star off for quality, but i really didn't want to take away from the game itself.

F. Alma, Lincolnshire

Bought this as a gift for my brother and his wife. They love it.

P. Franklin, Southend-on-Sea says

Easy to learn, and very fun, with nicely constructed board and cards. I only wish the cards were a tiny bit smaller - they're an awkward size to shuffle.

G. Jacqueline, Bath and North East Somerset

Such a fun game! as an adult- it's simple but you can make it very strategic! i could play this game for hours! great buy!

M. Cageen, Herefordshire says

Best two player game!

S. Morgan, Maryland

Very quick game, though it can still be challenging.

S. Wanda, Indiana says

This is a fantastic game for two people! . . It's very, very simple to learn, yet hits the sweet spot of having enough strategy to make it interesting, but not so much that it's intimidating. Do you start a new "expedition" now, or wait for a "wager" card? how long can you hold onto that card your opponent needs before you have to discard it? should you start a new expedition, or will you be stuck with a point-losing boondoggle at game's end? and, will there be enough turns to get it all done? . . It also lasts just about the right amount of time, around 20 minutes per hand (thought you'll find yourself playing game after game after game anyways, as it's addicting! ). . It's also pretty to look at. Lovely card art, and the large size of the cards also enhances the aesthetics. Handsome discard-pile board as well. . Bonus: you could ditch the board and easily play this with only the cards, making it very portable. . Highly recommended!

N. Rochelle, Kentucky

Wanted a game i could play with my 21 year old son on saturday nights, this one is great! not too long that he wanted to get on with other things but challenging enough to make it fun. Great game.
