Pandemic Legacy Blue Board Game (Z Man Games) 3639

Review for pandemic legacy blue board

Price was $43.58. This review may contain minor spoilers. I will not spoil any part of the story, though i may touch upon the upgrade system a bit, not going into too much detail so that an element of surprise may remain. . I can't really say a ton about the game without spoiling it. But if you like pandemic, you'll love this! this is pandemic with more of a story, ever-changing threats to deal with (though still well within the vein of pandemic - they aren't completely changing the game on you), and the need to consider future repercussions as well as immediate needs. . A few things i'd like to get out of the way first:. 1. For anyone wondering, this is not an expansion to another game. This is a stand-alone game. This game cannot be combined with regular pandemic. 2. If you haven't played the original pandemic game, i'd recommend considering that game and its expansions first. It's a great game. And this game isn't easy to jump into if you haven't played pandemic before. 3. This is a game that changes as you play it. You will write on things. You will apply stickers. You will rip things up. You will open upgrade packages. If this bothers you, play regular pandemic. This game would be nearly impossible to play in such a way that you can "reset" it. That said, it will last you a good long while and it's worth just playing it properly. . If you played normal pandemic with the expansions, it will take a bit of adjustment, no longer making use of things like the lab (one of my personal favorite expansions). But pandemic legacy easily makes up for that with many of its unique features and ever-changing story. . At least at first, pandemic legacy plays very similarly to the original game with few noticable changes. This will change with every game session. Some of the differences you'll note:. - the game has a maximum of four players. - pandemic legacy may be played an unlimited number of times, but the story of the game takes place over 12-24 game sessions (depending on how well you do). It seems that the game taking only 12 game sessions would be nearly impossible unless you cheat. The game scales in difficulty as you win and lose. - the game starts with only four characters - the medic (improved disease removal), dispatcher (move other players), generalist (more actions and upgrade slots), and researcher (create cures for diseases more easily). That said, new roles will be unlocked occasionally throughout the game. - after every game session, win or lose, you get to choose two upgrades. These upgrades may grant your characters more abilities (like pilot - when you use a card to fly to another city, do not discard the card), starting the game with additional research stations, making diseases easier to cure, etc. - if you play carelessly, your characters may gain downgrades that complicate their lives for the rest of the game. Collect too many downgrades on a character and they're removed from the game. From then on, you must pick a different character or use a generic character with no special traits whatsoever. These downgrades can usually be avoided if you play carefully. My group made it through the first half of the game without getting a single downgrade. - when a city outbreaks, that city will gain increasing levels of unrest. Eventually, the city will become more difficult to traverse. This means that allowing outbreaks to happen will eventually make the overall game more difficult. It may be better to lose an early game if you can avoid getting too many outbreaks. - the more you win the game, the harder it gets. The more you lose the game, the easier it gets. The game is designed to scale to the skill level of your group. You are almost certain to have a mix of wins and losses. There are two mechanisms that control this. The first is your "funding" level. You have a floating number of event cards thay may be placed in the player deck. The more you have, the easier the game becomes. For each game you win, you have two fewer event cards to play with. For each game you lose, you gain two more. The second mechanism is replay. When you lose one of the 12 missions or "months", you get a second chance. Since you get 2 upgrades at the end of every game you play, you'll end up with more upgrades, the more you lose. - you always have to be mindful of the future if you want to do well. It's better to lose gracefully than to win at a heavy cost. The penalties that you accumulate will sick with you through the rest of the game. If you can lose a mission without accumulating any downgrades, you will only be better for it. This fundamentally changes how you play each game. - as you play, the game introduces new complications and may change the goals needed to win. There are hidden rules. Hidden game pieces. Hidden character cards. Many things will change as you play the game. But that's why you buy pandemic legacy over normal pandemic. . If you've never played pandemic before, i'd honestly recommend considering getting that before this game. The games do not tie together, but pandemic legacy is less forgiving to players unfamiliar with the game system. If you already have and love pandemic, buy this game.

Pandemic legacy blue board game Review (71170zmg)

Wow! this has to be the best gaming experience i have ever had. Unfortunately i don't have a gaming group- so i just played it alone (as two characters. ) this plays well as a solo game , although as many people suggest there is something really nice about experiencing it with others. For me , i knew i couldn't get a group to commit to 12-24 games and was kind of glad i didn't because it gave me the flexibility to play whenever i wanted. I think i ran through the first 6 months in one sitting it was so exciting. -Y. Hayward

My brother and i are addicted to this game. For a board game, the thrill and suspense of what will happen next is exhilarating. We usually play this once a week, but it isn't uncommon for us to be so excited for the next week that we play several games back to back. Great game (especially if you're a tad bit nerdy and like board games).

Pandemic Legacy Blue Board Game
Click to see NoticePandemic Legacy Blue Board Game (Z Man Games)"I got this because i have always loved board games but am married to a wonderful woman who is not generally a fan of the complex gaming style that i usually prefer. Boardgamegeek. Com had rated this their number one game so i decided to give it a shot and ask for it for my birthday knowing that my family and friends would be more inclined to play if it were my birthday present. This game is amazing and they really enjoy playing it as well! even though i grew up playing games like risk, monopoly, axis and allies, heroquest, and battle masters this is my favorite board game of all time, and we're only through march! . I'm hooked. I re-connected with my childhood best friend and gaming buddy and bought the red box in order to play with him, my daughter, and his boy as a second group. I also purchased the regular pandemic game and on the brink expansion so that my wife, daughter, and i can play as a family to further limit time in front of the television. I love the cooperativeness that the game demands and the encouragement of team-building skills. It adds a different dynamic of working together that we don't normally experience as a family, which teaches me more about my daughters personality and our intra-personal relations in the home. I even made a soundtrack for the game using others recommendations and coupled it with news breaks of viral outbreaks every 3-5 minutes. Unfortunately, after trying it once my wife felt it made the game too tense. The game mechanics are ingenious. The way you periodically re-shuffle the cards where any outbreaks have already happened and place them back on top of the infection pile, introducing further risk to already problem areas, makes the game feel alive. Matt leacock, thank you so much for this."

Blood Rage

In blood rage, each player controls their own viking clanÍs warriors, leader, and ship. Ragnar k has come, and itÍs the end of the world! itÍs the vikingsÍ last chance to go down in a blaze of glory and secure their place in valhalla at odinÍs side! for a viking there are many pathways to glory. You can invade and pillage the land for its rewards, crush your opponents in epic battles, fulfill quests, increase your clan's stats, or even die gloriously either in battle or from ragnar k, the ultimate inescapable doom. Most player strategies are guided by the cards drafted at the beginning of each of the three game rounds (or ages). These ñgodsÍ giftsî grant you numerous boons for your clan including: increased viking strength and devious battle strategies, upgrades to your clan, or even the aid of legendary creatures from norse mythology. They may also include various quests, from dominating specific provinces, to having lots of your vikings sent to valhalla. Most of these cards are aligned with one of the norse gods, hinting at the kind of strategy they support. For example, thor gives more glory for victory in battle, heimdall grants you foresight and surprises, tyr strengthens you in battle, while the trickster loki actually rewards you for losing battles, or punishes the winner. Players must choose their strategies carefully during the draft phase, but also be ready to adapt and react to their opponentsÍ strategies as the action phase unfolds. Battles are decided not only by the strength of the figures involved, but also by cards played in secret. By observing your opponentÍs actions and allegiances to specific gods, you may predict what card they are likely to play, and plan accordingly. Winning battles is not always the best course of action, as the right card can get you even more rewards by being crushed. The only losing strategy in blood rage is to shy away from battle and a glorious death!

Time Stories Board Game

One of the most fun games i've played in a while. I love that everyone works together and the narrative of the story is thoroughly engaging. The only downside is you really can only play each deck once because you've solved all the puzzles when you are done. But i cant wait to play all the expansions!

It has been a grueling training regiment at the academy, but you're finally ready for your first mission as a full-fledged t. I. M. E. Agent. You and your team will travel back (or forward) in time to prevent some cataclysmic event. But don't waste a moment. Every second counts! in t. I. M. E. Stories, you will work cooperatively with a team to solve a mystery taking place in a different era. Each team member will enter a shell of someone alive at the time and gain their physical strengths and weaknesses. If you can't complete the adventure in time you'll be sent back to the start of the mission for another attempt. Each t. I. M. E. Stories deck is a new scenario waiting to be discovered! when are we this time.

Time Stories Board Game (Asmodee) FAQ.

This is a very unique board game that has stirred up a lot of disagreement amongst the board gaming community. In this game you are t. I. M. E. Agents that get to relive a certain date i time to assist in preventing/resolving an issue. In the base game it's preventing the creation of a temporal fault at a french asylum in the 1920's. . The game is played cooperatively as you and your fellow agents travel from location to location collecting both helpful and not-so-helpful information and items to aid you in solving puzzles and riddles. You are only given so much time each play through you must work together to be both efficient and thorough. After time runs up you will be returned to the present day in proportion for another "run" at fulfilling your mission. . The story is incredible immersive and will leave you and your friends talking for minutes about merely a few words or a single picture on a card. The opportunity for each player to assist in telling the story makes every player feel involved. The theme is a little on the dark side and i wouldn't recommend it for children under 13, but this shouldn't be an issue in future scenarios. . Immediately after playing, my friends agreed to chip in so we could buy the 1st expansion scenario the marcy case. Even though the asylum story is spoiled for me, i can't wait to play it again with a different group of friends just to watch them experience everything and even to personally reminisce about my own feelings and emotions while playing my first time. . Yes it's a little expensive for the 4-6 hours you will get out of it, but it was so worth it. Any true boardgamer needs to at least play, if not own, this game just for the experience and to admire the creativity and innovation of the whole system. . Edit 7/1/16: i have since bough ten and played the two latest expansions, marcys case and a prophecy of dragons. Both were ok but not as good as the first in my opinion. The game just starts feeling repetitive and i realized that i wasn't really interested in playing the scenarios a second time through with a different group. I ended up selling everything to a friend and sadly enough i really don't miss it. Dropped my 5 star rating down to 4. -Notice from O. Nielsen, Lewisham

This was fun. There was a little confusion at the actual gameplay, and that caused us to mess up our game. And once you see the actual game, spoiler time! it's over toots! i like to investigate /all/ of the possibilities in a pretend world, and you just can't do that with this one. You have to try to pick "right" every time, instead of exploring. The story is still totally fun. My husband and i played together over the course of 3 weekends. We both wrote tons of notes, and role played the heck out of it.

- V. JenniferThis game is amazing especially with all the expansions coming out. Look, people will complain about this game but the truth is that this game offers different twist and it makes you think about what move you should do next. This game does not take 2 hours, it will most likely take 5 to 6 hours. Do yourself a favor and don't cheat or write anything down. Think of yourself going into the matrix, would you take a pen and paper? this game is rated 1 in 2015 for a reason. Take a look at dice tower review. I love games that are different than all other types. . The expansion 'the mercy case' provides a different feel from the first scenario. This is not a spoiler but the scenario included with 'time stories' deals with puzzles and 'the mercy case' is mostly combat. Each scenario is different and the type and feel is different. Purchase this game and play as a group without smartphones or any writing materials and see for yourself how great it really is, smile. :)

Perhaps my least favorite expansion for time stories so far. It's still fun and the art is great, but i think the device they used to "solve" the case could have been improved. . There's also a major part of the game that can be easily missed, and that small detail will cause the game to completely stall out. If you're playing this game for the first time, i would recommend being extremely thorough. This didn't come up in my first play through, but i tried it again with a different group and they basically hit a dead end and gave up. . If you own time stories, this expansion is worth having, it's simply not the best one they've released.

SeaFall: A Legacy Game

We love this game, we already had 5 play sessions with our friends and we enjoyed them all. Few things to note:. 1) each playthrough takes a chunk of time(we play for around 3 hours). 2) this game is like a relationship, it requires commitment from the players, as it is a legacy game. . If you don't mind the points above, we actually like point 2. You will have a great time playing with this game, as the story and the excitement of discovery really add a great twist to this game

Seafall is a 4x game (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) set in an "age of sail" world reminiscent of our world. In seafall, the world is starting to claw its way out of a dark age and has begun to rediscover seafaring technology. Players take on the role of a mainland empire that consults with a consortium of advisors to discover new islands, explore those islands, develop trade, send out raiding parties, take part in ship-to-ship combat, and more. Seafall evolves as the game is played, setting their grudges into the history of the game and building a different narrative at every table as players open up the world.

Seafall: A Legacy Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

Great game so far. Got my copy a week ago but we couldn't start until last night. After 1 game we achieved 2 minor upgrades and unlocked the first "new mechanics" box of new stuff, which is really making all of us look forward to it a bunch for next game. . I know the reviews are that it starts off a bit slow, but all 4 of us enjoyed the base game as it stands: naming everything, discovering things, etc. It would be fun to play just the first game over and over again if it wasn't a legacy one. But the new mechanics are going to completely change the strategy for the next match, and while the guy who won is going to still have a slight advantage, the rest of us are definitely going to have an easier time closing the gap than if the new rules hadn't come into play. . That's about as specific as i can get without giving spoilers here (there are a few spoiler youtube videos if you want to see them). So far i would definitely give this game a 10/10. But do not expect to walk into the game expecting a "super awesome pirate game", this game is about colonialism and exploring and things that just "tend to happen" while doing that, with a choose your own adventure side to it. I'd very much compare it to the video game "the curious expedition" for the first (few? ) games, than i would to a pirate battle game. But you know, lots of content and new rules to unlock ; ) -Notice from X. Anonymous, South Australia

Bought for my son and he loves this game

Seafall:-a-legacy-game-(z-man-games) set picture

- Y. EmmaGreat game! we've played through 2 games plus the prologue and are greatly enjoying the hidden surprises!

Prior to this purchase, my board game experience was very low, consisting of the likes of monopoly, risk, sorry etc. My experience with legacy games was zilch, but i was drawn in by all the hype. I also live with 3 brothers who are all video gamers and would easily be convinced to go on this adventure with me. Before we started the game, none of us had high expectations (so many bad reviews. ) but i was still excited. . We've been averaging a game a week. 2 of us are really looking forward to the next game, one wants to get the next game but is in no rush, and the last hates the game and feels like every game is a chore. . The legacy aspect that brought me in is still keeping me heavily interested. Knowing there are still things in the game that will be new to our group with the next couple of plays is exciting for me. The story isn't wonderful, but it's the twists that i enjoy experiencing (or seeing my competition agonize over). . I will say the 3 of us that feel positive about the game tend to be more analytical, and enjoy studying all the details of games, trying to min/max as best as we know how. The fourth is more of the "eh" type of player, and is easily satisfied with no progress, while getting bored when things start to get a little complicated. . Would i recommend this to someone? honestly, that depend on the gamer. It's definitely not for everyone, especially if you tend to be a more casual/laid-back gamer. Each game is 1. 5+ hrs and you need a consistent group of players. But the legacy aspect still hasn't worn off for me and keeps me engaged as opposed to sorry, where i draw a card and mentally check out after my first turn. . Since starting seafall, our board game collection has expanded to include:. Scythe. Cry havoc. Kemet. Settlers of catan. Descent 2e the long road and shadows of nerekhall. Pandemic legacy (we'll be starting this when we finish seafall)

Pandemic Legacy Red Board Game

Up front, i have played the original pandemic so our group was fairly accustomed to the base rules. If you played the original pandemic, especially if you have a regular gaming group (2-4), i would highly encourage you to consider this. . If you haven't played the original pandemic, i would still suggest it, though there will be a learning curve that hopefully the mechanics curve to your benefit later. Possibly play it to cure the four diseases a few times (base game), escalating the number of infection cards in the player deck to get the idea. Then when ready, accept the "training" is over and see what happens. . There are minor spoilers below. . I bought this for friends, and we've played through the first two of twelve "months". The first month is more or less like the original game. We struggled a bit with a few different elements of the design:. 1) destruction of components - this is a thing. This is not a board game designed around infinite replayability. It's designed around giving you a great gaming experience. Getting over this was hard. 2) when to open the rule options - we thought based on what we read in the rule book that occurred after the first game, rather than being patient and accepting this occurs when told to. This seemed less than clear. 3) *read* the entire text. We missed the bottom half of the first card that said "stop" and there was a word "until". Had to do some finagling to rewind and get us back on track. . So struggles aside, this has been a great experience. Every decision in regular pandemic can mean the difference between winning and losing. In legacy season 1, every decision has that little bit of extra weight where, it might not just hurt the current game, but it might hurt later games. When having to make the decision of "do we rush to save the city already in turmoil, or do we accept them as a casualty to try and eradicate a disease". It's awesome. When new rules show up, or old rules evolve? it changes how you look at the board. I would like to think we're doing great with only minor turmoil on the board, but going into month 3 we have zero funding because "obviously we have things under control" - -. . Can't wait.

The world is on the brink of disaster. In pandemic legacy, your disease-fighting team must keep four deadly diseases at bay for a whole year. Each month will bring new surprises, and your actions in each game will have repercussions on the next. Will you let cities fall to the diseases? will your team be enough to keep the viruses at bay for a whole year? craft your own unique pandemic experience with pandemic legacy.

Pandemic Legacy Red Board Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

After playing this game, i now understand why boardgame geeks votes this the top game of all time. Pandemic is fun: not my favorite, but a very solid coop. Pandemic legacy is a blast! the way the game develops and changes over time, based on my team's actions, is fantastic. Literally no two games are ever alike. We're 4 months into our 12 month campaign and having a great time. I highly recommend! -Notice from P. Wilson, Bretagne

My girlfriend and i played through this and we were absolutely hooked, literally dreaming about the game, until it was through. It really is an amazing experience, so unlike any table-top board game i've ever played before. Having finished our play-through, we're now in a sort of pandemic legacy withdrawal phase. "what do we do now? " they've tantalized us with that "season 1" label on the box, so maybe there's hope, eventually, for us to get our fix. Anyway, here are some thoughts from our experiences:. . Works great for two players. I was a little worried at first that it might be more properly designed for four players, but no, it's eminently playable by two. And, frankly, a great game for couples, since you're working and collaborating together. . Be careful with the rules. One small downside is it's very easy to miss a rule here or there. The rulebook, to some extent, seems to assume some knowledge of the basic pandemic game. We played a few practice games before beginning the "legacy" rules, and it's definitely worth doing so. In fact, we lost our practice games, but had a nice string of wins once we started the legacy rules, so the practice was good for that reason too. . Avoid spoilers. Although i enjoyed reading other people's accounts of their play-through, i was careful to read the months that we had already completed, rather than looking at spoilers. It turned out to be well-worth it. The game has some twists that are pretty epic and you'll really get the full experience of it if you don't see them coming. Also, we enjoyed many conversations speculating as to what was coming and trying to prepare for it. We were sometimes right and sometimes wrong, and that's really part of the game. . Don't be turned off by the destructive "one play" aspect of legacy rules. Really, it's worth it. It's a bit like watching a movie you love or tv-show you love. It's true, once you've seen it, you've seen it, and you can't recover that first experience of not knowing what's coming, but that doesn't lessen the experience. . Play carefully! one of the things we noticed was that as the series of games went on, we were going slower and slower with each game. Part of that may have been increasing complexity of the rules, but mostly it was us taking more time to plan our moves carefully. The desire to win our final month kept growing as it approached, particularly with all the work preparing for it. . Anyway, if you take the plunge, i know you'll enjoy it. Unquestionably, one of the best game purchases i've ever made.

- V. WilliamsThis game is absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and i just started playing it and have finished through february of the "12 month" campaign so far, and when i woke up this morning, the first thing i said to him was "i want to play more pandemic. ". . We had never played pandemic before, so we did a few practice rounds first without the legacy rules in effect. Feeling pretty comfortable with it, we moved ahead in the campaign. Opening the special boxes and putting stickers on the board feels like christmas. The first time it told us to destroy a card, we looked at each other wondering who was going to be brave enough to rip it up. The way new cards are entered into play, with rules changing permanently (or at least seemingly permanently) as you go, objectives changing and adding on to one another, makes each game a unique experience with changing strategy. There are funded events, characters added into play, upgrades and scars added to characters, mutations added to the diseases, and at the end of each game, depending on whether you won or lost, your funding either goes up or down, which will make the next game either easier or harder. I don't know how anyone could go back to regular pandemic after this. . At first i hadn't wanted to buy both pandemic and pandemic legacy, but now i think i understand the need for both. As the game's board changes and is modified, i think we'll need a regular pandemic board (and the expansions! ) for playing afterward. Though maybe we'll need to keep some of the new modifications we learned in legacy? only time will tell. . Next week, i'm starting a new legacy campaign with four players. I'm hoping that is even more exciting (will report back soon), but for now, i'm happy to have found a complex and engaging co-op game for two players. . Update:. And for people wondering if you can start over with the legacy campaign after you finish the 12 months, my feeling is that the answer is no. Even if you don't destroy cards, some of the changes are somewhat permanent, adding new rules at certain stages or placing new stickers over the old ones. Each time there is an outbreak in a city, it gets a sticker permanently leveling it from 1-5 (rioting to destroyed) which changes the play. So even without destroying cards, you're using the stickers. I don't think you could play through it again after you finish as the 12-month campaign, but i figure it is likely that whatever state the game is in by month 12, you can keep playing that campaign over and over.

The big draw for me was the long-term consequences of one's decisions. Events and actions taken early in the campaign matter all the way to the end of the game. Plus, how often do you get a chance to have permanent component change during a campaign? destruction of components, additions, amendments, more additions - the little surprises with each month of play added a frisson of anticipation. It was the boardgame equivalent of an advent calendar, and i found that quite cool. . The price can be daunting, but look at it this way - divide it evenly among your core players, and it becomes quite affordable. . Drawback - this is a commitment of time. For best effect, all players involved really need to play through the entire campaign, which will be 12-24 full game sessions.

Pandemic on The Brink Expansion Board Game 2nd Edition

Great expansion and love the insert tray. It keeps everything together and organized all in one place. Love the new roles and challenges.

Has saving humanity become routine? spice pandemic up with new roles and events. Add a fifth player, try legendary difficulty, or add an optional challenge: - what if one disease is particularly nasty? - or, if a fifth disease is wreaking havoc? - or, even worse, if that fifth disease is being spread by a hidden bio-terrorist?

Pandemic on The Brink Expansion Board Game 2nd EditionPandemic-Brink-Expansion-Board-Game

Pandemic On Brink Expansion Board Game 2nd Edition (Z Man Games) FAQ.

Pandemic is one of my favorite games and does not need to be expanded. However, if you feel like the game is a little stale like you've played it so many times that you need new challenges or just something a little different, this is almost a must-have expansion. In this box are several new role cards, a 5th infection cube color, a 1-vs-all variant, cards to make a disease tougher, and a box insert that lets you store the base game, this expansion and the 2nd expansion: "in the lab" (fitting all 3 expansions with the base game is quite difficult). . The 5th cube color is used in 2 new game variants: bio-terrorist and mutations. The 1-vs-all variant has everyone trying to win the game while a bio-terrorist player is also infecting locations. The mutation variant adds a few cards to the player deck and a few cards to the infection discards and drawing one of those cards will add purple cubes to the board. Curing the purple disease is a little harder since there are half of those cubes than the original 4 colors. . This expansion has virulent strain epidemics that can replace your epidemic cards. Instead of just following the basic 3 actions of an epidemic, you now have a new ongoing- or one-time effect like "remove 4 infection cubes from the virulent strain supply". You determine which disease has the least cubes available and dub it the virulent strain the first time you have an epidemic and will make curing that disease harder. . The game comes with more events, roles, and a few blank role and event cards. With all the new events comes a new method in using them: 2 cards per players get shuffled into the player deck before dealing cards. . I like the new roles, the new events, and the virulent strain variant a lot. The bio-terrorist has been played once in the 100 times i've played with this expansion but everything else in the box has definitely been worth buying. If you can only afford 1 expansion for pandemic, this is the one to buy. I recommend this expansion above the other 2; then "in the lab" and "state of emergency" last. (however, all 3 expansions are great and have new variants well-worth the money. ) -Notice from T. Nancy, Halton

A great game. I've included pictures on what i did to make the box organization better. . First i have a large cut out of a index card taped to the back of the bio terrorist pad so i can quickly pull out the pad, 2 rule books, and the game board. . Second, i cut out thin strips of index cards to use to pull out the playing cards. This also keeps all the cards from sliding around while transporting and storing.

Pandemic State of Emergency Board Game

I waited a little before purchasing this new expansion, as i was still having plenty of fun with the previous expansions. While i'm glad i waited, i'm much happier now than i could have imagined. When i first read about this expansion before it actually came out, i was a little wary. It seemed silly, and didn't seem like it would add much compared to the previous expansions, but state of emergency has everything. . Not only does it have a couple of new challenges that are fun, and quite a bit more difficult. It also adds several other elements to make prior expansions easier/ more difficult, and the ability to combine the two difficulty level changers in order to simply add more variety. . While i really enjoy the new challenges, i will most likely be playing the prior challenges with the new elements. It's amazing to see how the emergency event cards make even the regular base game (which i had no reason to play again until now for added difficulty) more fun and challenging! . . As another has commented. Yes, there isn't really any 'added' room to fit everything into one box. But personally, i've never fit everything into one box. Between 4 boxes for storage, there is no problem with having enough storage room. If really needed, i'm sure it could easily be combined into two boxes. . Another counterpoint to a prior commenter. Yes, new material. Which is a good thing, in my opinion, as some of the color pieces are so close in color, it's a bit difficult to tell them apart. Which that in itself is the only negative thing i can even think of about the pandemic games. . Another wonderful thing about this particular expansion, is that you don't need the prior two expansions for compatibility. The rulebook provides the play and rules for this expansion alone, along with tons of varying points in case you do have the other expansions. I believe that i now have enough variety and choices of pandemic games to last me for years to come with all the additions of state of emergency!

Saving the world just got a little bit harder! three new challenges await you in this new expansion for pandemic:- the hinterlands challenge: the diseases are spreading from animals to humans. - the emergency events challenge: unpredictable events have nasty effects on the game. Try to use quarantines to stop the spread of disease across the board. - the superbug challenge: a fifth disease that cannot be treated threatens the world! produce vaccine doses after finding its cure in order to fight off this threat. You must eradicate the superbug disease to win.

Pandemic State of Emergency Board GamePandemic-State-Emergency-Board-Game

Pandemic State Emergency Board Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

"on the brink" and "in the lab" are such game changers in very interesting ways that they are the superior expansions. "state of emergency" is unfortunately not as good, but it still has its interesting bits. The hinterlands module, while an interesting concept, adds too much clutter to the main board, and the relatively slight change in overall game play is not worth the extra clutter and extra footprints of the two new boards that only have two cities each on them. The quarantine markers also only seem to impact the game in a minor way. However, the super bug challenge is quite interesting, and new roles are always fun to try out. In the end, it's pandemic, so it's still going to be fun and i am glad i have it, but this expansion is the most passable if you're not going to cave and buy them all. My expectations were set high by the previous expansions, so i almost gave this 3 stars, but i concluded that it was probably 4 stars after all. -Notice from Y. Zelda, Sandwell

We really enjoy this add on. Variety of play is great. The difficulty level on some seem to be easier than original, but others are over the top. Although the board can get a little clutterd at times, it is totally worth it. Awesome game, love it, love pandemic.

Finally had a chance to play this expansion last night. My boyfriend and i have just started playing tabletop games and pandemic was our first. We've gotten fairly good at it and wanted to spice things up. This expansion definitely made things more difficult and we had a blast playing it. The new roles are good as well. Definitely recommend it! . . This is not a stand alone game!

Answer:

I'm not going to spend a ton of time on this review. It's rated as the best board game of all time on boardgamegeek so there's nothing i can say that hasn't been said a million times. . Yes, this is by far the best board game i have ever played (my wife shares the sentiment). If you're worried about the customizing aspect, just know the game would not be anywhere close to as fun if you didn't customize it. Don't get this game if you plan to try to replay it. You won't do the game justice. If you're the type to buy a new video game, play through the 20+ hour campaign and not play through a second time, this won't be much different. Except, of course, that it's a tabletop adventure where you have to talk to your friends about every move. . When i look back many years from now, some great memories with my wife will be had talking over who should move where and why in this game. And opening the next black box and sharing the "floored" feeling of how the heck one box just wrecked our entire gameplan. Plan to spend a couple hours with just 2 people and definitely give this game the attention it deserves. . Final thoughts: this game is worth every penny. Even if you only play through it once, it is so worth the price for the novelty, bonding and the experience. You could easily drop as much going to the movies with 3 people, suck it up and get it.

Pandemic had always been a great game and the legacy version is truly memorable. My wife and i are playing with another couple and the fact that each game connects to the next one is a great way to make the boardgame feel more epic. We are about half way through the entire game now and we are all loving it. While the legacy aspect of the game removes any replay value after the 12-24 games (depending on how often you win) it also makes for a memorable experience that i am sure we will still talk about years from now. If you enjoy cooperative games-buy this game

This is our new date night game. Works great for two players and if you're a pandemic veteran you'll love the variety introduced. The game changes with every play and it keeps things fresh.

P. Shayna, Northwest Territries

Great game! if you enjoy pandemic to start, you'll love pandemic legacy. I won't spoil any of the fun, but throughout the game you get to open envelopes and boxes which change the game play in ways you certainly won't expect! although it can be played by different groups of people each play through, it is best played by a game group who will play through all scenarios together. I can't wait to meet with my game group again and play another two or three scenarios!

N. Parker, Warrington says

My husband and i bought the legacy edition after playing lots and lots of pandemic and the on the brink expansion. This version really makes you think and plan every move since some changes are permanent. The game pieces are very nice and the rules are clearly written. We are only halfway through with one loss and the game keeps adding surprises. Can't wait for season 2!

H. Nees, Knowsley

I was a big fan of the standard game, and even before i played my first game i heard about the legacy edition and how fun it was. We played this as a four player game and was pretty impressed with all of the extras that game with it. There was a simple sheet that broken down the basic differences, and also more explained in the rulebook (would highly recommend reviewing both before starting even if you've played pandemic before). . In this version, there are 12 "months" that happen. You get two chances to win in a month and depending on how each game goes and what happens there will be effects that will carry over to future games. Everything from character changes (or even characters going away permanently) to cities being harder to access and i'm guessing a whole lot more that we haven't hit yet. We're all excited for the next time we can all get together. . But if you want to play with other people during the 12 "month" (using quotations since you could theoretically play straight through) period there's actually some space on the back of the rulebook to log wins/losses, who played what character in a month, etc. . Highly recommend! the only thing i wish is that we could take off the stickers and re-use the same scenarios for future games. But feel like that may take away from the current game knowing you could go through without any permanent consequences.

V. Bethany, North Carolina says

Oh man. This upgrade to pandemic is so cool. I can't really say much without spoilering the game, but just having consequences and history carry forward from game to game adds a whole other level of intensity to what was already a pretty intense game. . I was also worried about consistency in player base because my gaming group is composed of busy adults with many important things to do(tm). This turned out to not at all be a problem. Players can sub in and out without messing up the game because any player can play any character at any time, so the characters in the game can still develop no matter who is playing them, and the included stickers make it easy to pick up the state of the game instantly even if you step in halfway through the legacy run. So go ahead and get this game and play it with whoever shows up on your game night. It still works. . Anyway, there is actually a story to play out, and it's a cool story, so buy this game and play it! also, it will still function as a regular game of pandemic when you're done.

B. Hakala, Vermont

I bought this to play with my gaming group and we are having a blast! it's hard to talk about the game itself without spoiling the plot, but i can say that every game is different as new challenges and threats are introduced each month. . The game box itself is quite large heavy. The component quality is fantastic and vibrantly colorful. At $50, this game was well worth the money for the quality of the components and the entertainment value it provided my group.

K. Franklin, Hertfordshire says

My wife, sister, and brother-in-law have been playing this game by month since january, and this is our favorite game right now. If you've been thinking of getting a great board game, this is really it. . The operation, the hidden elements, and the team work needed to survive against the board is just really great, and makes the game so much better.

A. Nellie, Idaho

After thoroughly enjoying the regular version of pandemic, i read about pandemic legacy after hearing about it. This was my first experience with a legacy game and was a little apprehensive about a game with potentially limited replay value as well as making permanent changes to a game. . After receiving the game, we got our group together and got setup for the first playthrough. It was immediately obvious that this was going to be a different board game experience as the rule book intentionally had boxes within it for future rule changes. The game flow is similar to a campaign mode where decisions that you make or legacy cards that you turn over can have an impact on future games. . Our group is hooked and having a great time playing through the 12 month "campaign". The various twists/changes which occur during the game are fun and add a great element to the game. While it remains to be seen how much replay value the game will have after we finish the campaign, we are very happy with our purchase and the game.

A. Elanor, South Tyneside says

My husband and i are very into board gaming, and this was one of his christmas presents. We love regular pandemic, so this will be a lot of fun to play. We have already finished the first game and it did not disappoint!

W. Kellie, Indiana

Update: without giving anything away, all i can say is that after playing the whole game through, i would still pay and do it all over again! from month to month, the game took on more interesting twists and turns than i can describe here. Characters became lost, cities fell, and legends were created. The final move of the final game timed perfectly with the inception soundtrack that we were listening to and my wife and i looked at each other and felt such a sense of completion. . So yes. Buy this game! . . Original review: my wife and i are long term lovers of cooperative games and pandemic in general, but this game has blown away all of my exceptions of the genre. To summarize my initial thoughts let me say this: i have never played a more nerve wracking game that i enjoyed so much! . . The specifics (without giving too much away): pandemic legacy starts out exactly like your normal game of pandemic. It is january, and your group of scientists and medics travel around the board, putting out fires while trying to get the prerequisite number of cards to cure the disease. However . After the second epidemic card comes out the game changes in a radical way and from there it is a fevered frenzy to keep up. . Legacy deck: this change, and all future changes, is mandated by the legacy deck. From there, you'll find the specific scenario instructions for each month of game time. So far, my wife and i have played through march, and each one turns up the heat expectations that you are supposed to meet. Sometimes, the legacy deck gives you a new character, other times new abilities, or it might even make the game harder; however, you meet it, you'll look forward to each time you have to go back to the deck. . Spoiler alert: why this is such an intense game: when you play original pandemic, forbidden island, or the like, you tend to not care as much about disastrous situations but this one makes you pay for it. For example, in original pandemic, i feel confident with letting a few outbreaks to occur. I tell myself that it's just lima and it is only touching a few other spots so if it goes up it's really no big deal. Well, in legacy it is a huge deal. Each time there is an outbreak, you have to put a permanent sticker on the board which gets progressively worse. This is called the panic mechanic and it works like this. On the first outbreak, the city is now panicky. The second and third times it has an outbreak the city is now rioting which means that you can't take direct flights in. The fourth time it happens the city collapses and now taxes you a card to simply try to enter the city. The fifth time it happens the the city falls which means that it will tax you two cards to enter it, and if your character is in the city when it falls it dies. Wow! talk about pressure. So, in the first round my wife and i ended up with a south american outbreak chain reaction and we are now permanently on alert of it happening again. . To conclude, i strongly recommend this game for you and your game group! it has gotten me out of my board game boredom and reinvigorated my play. . Unfortunately, when you get through all 12 months this will be the last time that you'll be able to play the game as you can not go backwards and do it all again. But who cares! at minimum, your group will have this game for 12 hours of play time if you never make a mistake.

V. Anonymous, Hessen says

So far my group is only two months into the game, but if you like pandemic and have a group of four that will commit to this, it is a gaming experience unlike any other. You will love the persistent elements, opening the monthly boxes to add characters, events, etc. To the game, and how it takes the traditional pandemic experience to a whole 'nother level.

P. Ruff, Montana

We played this game as a family, me, my husband and 2 teenaged sons. It was worth every penny. We were apprehensive at first because of the one time play thing. But you play 12-24 games, it's not just 1 game and that's it. I've had monopoly for years and have probably not played it 24 times. We played about 15 games before we finished the whole game. I would recommend it to anyone and encourage you to play the game is meant to be played not trying to figure out how to play it over and over again. Online store was the cheapest i could find it most places or was $70, so i was happy with $44. I like the legacy concept, we're going to try risk legacy next.
