Paper Mario: Color Splash – Wii U Standard Edition (Nintendo) 206

Review for paper mario color splash wii standard

Price was $39.99. This game is just like the rest of the paper mario games, it adds in a few new things with the coloring and it has a good story line. It's only 1 player but it's pretty easy to pass back and forth between people. Fun to play and fun to watch.

Preamble

If you are skeptical about this game after the train wreck that is sticker star, stop being skeptical. This is an amazing game that only suffers from a few flaws. It is a great addition to the paper mario games. . Pros:. The humor is amazing and is just like the humor in previous games such as the thousand year door. The dialogue is funny and charming throughout the game. Huey, your paint can partner, got a few laughs out of me as well. If you are a fan of the previous games because of their charm and/or humor, this is a must-buy. The world is vibrant and fun to explore. There are many different places in this game that all are distinct from one another and all hold some very cool surprises. The graphics are amazing! paper mario has never looked better, and i would love if they kept this style in future games. . Cons:. The battle system is better than sticker star's battle system, but it is still similar, and the game would have been better if the battle system was like that of the first two paper mario games. Also, you get so many coins, that you can just buy the best cards and easily win any battle. Paper Mario Color Splash Wii StandardPaper Mario: Color Splash - Wii U Standard Edition (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

I loved this game. Granted, it will never be the masterpeice that is ttyd that moved us all, made us laugh, and gave us hours of pure joy. I am not sure there will ever be a pm game like that again. Perhaps they set the bar too high with ttyd (the thousand year door/gamecube paper mario) but, i still felt this game was really cute and had such a sweet ending. I love how these games make bowser to be actually pretty cute. His end story of how he got black paint on him was so cute. 3. But it is lacking in some areas. Not fond of the battle system and how you cant use stars special abilities like in ttyd. Not a fan of doing so many steps to use a card. I miss just being able to always use a plain ol' hammer or jump attack if all else fails and you have no flower-power. In this one, you always need to have paint. Sometimes you cant even execute even the basic attack as well if you're out of paint and only have unpainted hammers cards or something. . Also dont like how you dont get a new partner with each area you go to. That added so much for me back with n64 version and ttyd. That was 1/2 the fun. Especially when there was secret characters to join your party like ms. Mowz. The fun was in connecting to each of your party members and unraveling their stories in each level. I really miss that in this game. . Though i do really like shy-guys. They're one of my favorite nintendo characters and i really did like how they were in abundance here in this game. And i loved at the end that you got to ride on rainbow road. So cute. . . But i miss the multipule characters and their stories. Just didnt seem like pm to me. Still was a very very cute game and i will always love pm and play the games. I had a lot of fun with this game and one day i even played it for 15 hours (lol).

Paper Mario: Color Splash - Wii U Standard Edition (Console Video Games) Wuppcnfe
Click to see NoticePaper Mario: Color Splash - Wii U Standard Edition (Nintendo)"(this is my son writing this review). . So here we have it. The next paper mario game in the series. So does this game have more charm and fun gameplay? or is it just a per copy of sticker star with better visuals? well let's see. . Color splash starts out with mario getting a visit from peach and a (possibly) random toad. Mario lets them in and peach gives him the letter, which actually turns out to be a color-drained toad! so mario looks at where the postage stamp came from and it looks like it came from prism island. So without hesitation mario, peach, and toad get on a boat and travel to prism island. They find the place deserted and after doing some stuff they come upon a 3d paint bucket like character named huey. After squeezing huey into paper form peach hangs back in prism island while mario and huey head off into adventure. Of course like always bowser comes along and kidnaps peach. Mario and huey then travel throughout many different places to collect the big paint stars to help make a pathway to bowser's castle. The big paint stars have memories of what happened that caused the town to be deserted. It looks like bowser was looking down on all the toads playing in the paint and decided he wanted to color his shell in a rainbow hue. Jumping into the main pool of colors he spins in his shell and accidentally mixes them all together, creating black paint. This black paint possesses bowser and causes him to drain all the toads and invade the place. After mario and huey defeat bowser huey makes the ultimate sacrifice to get rid of all the black paint so it doesn't touch anyone ever again. And ya. That's the story. . Now with the story out of the way, let's get with the gameplay. . The gameplay is honestly much more enjoyable than sticker star. The main gimmick is that there are color-drained patches in the environment that mario has to paint back to normal with his paint hammer. Honestly doing this is very satisfying as you splash paint onto different colorless patches and watching all that visually good looking paint get splattered everywhere. They do a much better job with environments this time around. Remember the boring ice, grassland, desert. Yadayada places in sticker star? well that's pretty much gone now. The hub world is honestly very similar to ttyd's hub world, with a shop, a dojo to practice battle moves, and some toads to talk to. There are places like a circus, you have to travel on a train, visit a secret base, etc. Sure, you still have some places like desert and grassland and forest but i think they did a better job with these areas. . Alright, let's talk the battle system. . They didn't learn from sticker star's battle system, as it's practically back. Stickers are replaced by cards which you have paint in order to increase your attack power. The cards are 1 time uses just like sticker star and even the same type of attacks like the worn out jump, hopslipper, etc return. Although some new variations of these cards do come as well. Things return as well, also in the form of cards. While there aren't as many of these in the game (like 27), they are much more fun to watch. The animations last a lot longer and are honestly more hilarious. Some things return from sticker star but most are new (such as the piggybank, the hammer, etc). While things like the fan and the lightbulb return. Things do have to be used in the environment like in sticker star but thankfully there is a garbage toad (and yes. He literally lives in the garbage can) who magically knows what you need when you need it. Sadly the need for things in boss battles return, so not much improvement from boss battles. Though surprisingly bowser doesn't require a thing card to be defeated. A new type of card appears that summons an ally (normally a regular enemy) to attack mario's current enemies. A cute thing that are new to battles are that enemies say little phrases to try to provoke mario into attacking them (normally saying indirectly what you shouldn't attack by saying you should attack that part of the enemy). Also the enemy hp bar is absent and you have to rely on looking at their sprite and seeing how much of them is still colored. The less color they have, the closer they are to dying. . Another new thing that succeeds paperization from sticker star is called "cutout". In which huey takes mario out of the picture similar to what kersti does in sticker star. Mario can then cut out a part of the environment in which he can walk on to get to normally inaccessible areas. I think this is actually worse than paperization as you have to be very precise in order for it to work. They will give a hint that you are close to being able to cutout but it doesn't help at all. Even distance from the thing your needing to cutout is required as well. . Let's move on to characters. . Sadly this game does little to improve the characters. They are all pretty much generic mario enemies and a ton of toads with occasional gear. The good news is that they focused a lot on humor in the game and their dialogue is so funny most of the time you forget they are just a generic toad or a generic enemy. I found myself laughing out loud at certain points which is very rare. If you thought kersti from sticker star was a pain to be around, well they fixed that. Huey has much more personality and likes mario much more than kersti does as well. . Overall this game has a lot more charm than sticker star does. They fixed a lot of issues in sticker star such as exploration and humor helped with forgetting that the characters your talking to are just generic characters. While some issues still remain such as the battle system and the need for new characters, this game is a lot of fun to play!"

New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U - Wii U

I have played mario since the beginning and this is an excellent game. The game includes items and specialty items as a game mechanic and also has the distinct non linear world setup that made super mario world such a pleasure to play. This game can become very challenging at the later levels but has a gradual learning curve suitable for younger players. . A note for parents; i would advise turning off the mii posting if you have younger children playing this. As the game gets more difficult the posts about each level tend to include foul language and occasional suggestive themes. I was somewhat surprised by this considering the games target audience and how nintendo usually screens out vulgarity. Just a suggestion

Wow, this is a very cool mario game. Its not hard to see why nintendo has been around for so long. Its because they make games like this. The world is huge and there are tons of different boards. The graphics are nice and slick-it looks like the graphics from an animated movie. Some of the boards are pretty tough so it might not be for younger kids, unless there is someone older around to help them out. I think someone younger, say, 5 or 6, could play it if they are playing with an adult or teen who is into video games. But, overall, a great game. -Notice from F. Benton, Nebraska

Great game. Very fun. Had to return and had an rough time with worldwide distributors. Would suggest using anyone else. Re-stocking fee of 20 percent. Lost 24 percent returning this product. Will never have anything to do with worldwide distributors again. I would suggest avoiding! have fun with the game.

- D. GuestWe recently bought a wii u and wanted a game that four people could play so we settled on this one. It's a lot of fun. My 6 year old looooves it. We would give it 5 stars but it seems to have a glitch where randomly it freezes up for just a second, or you hit the jump button and it doesn't work (all controllers do this so its not the controllers) which leaves your character just walking off the cliff to die instead of jumping to the next area as you intended. I can say this gets very frustrating. Other than that the game is fun for the whole family!

This was a gift for my son's birthday. He loves to play this game on our wii u. Him and his sister love to play this game together, and it helps them interact with each other. I personally love this game because it gives them bond time, and they both enjoy the game together.

I really enjoyed this game, i though it was creative, humorous and a blast to play. The only negative for me was the flicking of the battle cards got a little repetitive towards the end of my play through, other than that it was great.

Best paper mario: color splash - wii u standard edition (nintendo) in review

This may be the last wiiu game i purchase, it would be zelda botw, but we'll see if the switch works out. Anyways, this game is fantastic so far, about 2/3 through the main story. Visuals and sound are probably the best the system has to offer, the colors children. The battle system is fine, it can get very repetitive (as with all rpgs), but there is enough variation in the enemies and attacks to make you work for some wins. I haven't died in battle yet, but there are many sequences that come out of nowhere that can be very challenging for no apparent reason. I would say this game is a buy, even if you've never played the series before.

I'm still currently playing this game and haven't finished it but have completed about 50% of the game so i feel i can leave an accurate review. I love paper mario and have been playing since paper mario on n64. This game is fantastic, i love the concept of restoring color with the paint hammer. There are a lot of creative levels. My only complaint in this game is the turn based battles, which is tedious but not terrible. Overall, this game has been a joy to play and i would recommend friends to purchase and play.

D. Florence, Devon

Paper mario is back in a brand new adventure with much need improvement over sticker star. Funny, addicting, and an interesting story. As someone who grew up playing paper mario 64, i say this game game is a step in the right direction for paper mario.

W. Alma, District of Columbia says

For all the bad publicity this game got i was expecting it to be pretty bad. However all in all it turned out to be a pretty great game. It was lots of fun, not too challenging but there were one or two times where i felt the difficulty went way to the extreme. You could tell that the writers for this game kind of did whatever they wanted to. This game was snarky and completely over the top with it's sense of humor but that's what made the entire game fun. . The only con i have to this game was the battle system. It was very cumbersome and required entirely too much effort for something i felt should have been playtested and streamlined a lot better than it was. In order to execute 1 attack round on enemies you had to. - scroll through your list of 100 cards and find the ones you want (you can only use the wii u gamepad touchscreen). - swipe them up into one of your available attack slots. - tap to confirm those are the cards you want. - color in each card if it isn't already. - tap to confirm you are done coloring. - swipe up to confirm you are ready to attack. - finally, execute your attack moves. . In closing, this game is fun and funny at times, and if it weren't for the terrible battle system which made you want to sneak around and run from enemies more than fighting them, this would totally be a 5 star game.

(this is my son writing this review). While some issues still remain such as the battle system and the need for new characters, this game is a lot of fun to play!

This has been a great entertaining and colorful game. It's all my kids want to play and they have said its better than the original. It would be nice if it was a 2 player game instead of just 1 player

The game is fun but not the best. The biggest issue i have with the game really is that you need to use cards to do battle but the 99 cards space doesnt always feel enough. Reason being is that there are a lot of situational type enemies that need to be beaten in a certain manner so you have to have specific cards to beat them, so you need to keep stock of certain cards to deal with any situation. I know the spin option kind of deals with this issue by allowing you to spin for the card you need at the time in case you don't have one but still, it just always feels like i have too many cards and have to keep dumping extras. Maybe its just nitpicking but who knows, perhaps its a nuance that would annoy certain other players too. . One thing to be said about the game is that coins and cards are very plentiful so you should rarely (if ever) find yourself running out of cards. That should never really happen in your play through. . In terms of difficulty, its easy for the most part but there are some head scratching moments where you need to think outside the box to get past certain obstacles or enemies. One example is the cooking part of the game. The guest provides you with a steak and you need to figure out how to cook it. You have to 'tenderize' it (one excellent hit with the large wooden hammer worked), then use the salt and pepper card, the grill card, and the lemon card. Luckily i did it right the first time but i dont know if there was an in game prompt to let you know what to do if you do mess it up, because there was nothing beforehand to tell you what to do and not everyone cooks to think of how to cook your steak well. . All in all, i do like the game, but its one i will finish once (5 out of 6 stars collected so near the end) and probably not pick up again in the future. . . This review was not part of any promotion. Have a great day and happy shopping

Without spoiling anything, this was a very enjoyable game. It's not very difficult and the battle mechanics are somewhat repetitive, but the character of paper mario is very strong in this release. It's the epitome of modern nintendo snark, full of quips, jokes, and even pushing political buttons. Even as you play into it and come to feel the character of the game, it will continue to surprise you over and over. You really get the impression the writers were given a lot of creative freedom on this one. . Unhappily, it doesn't have as many interesting npc designs as the thousand year door did. But the painting mechanic is fun, and huey is an awesome companion character. . I'd recommend this to anyone with a wii u, it's a lot of game and still manages to stay fresh at every turn.

Really funny. The battle mechanics could use some work. But the humor is probably the best out of all of the paper mario games.

Game was a lot of fun, even if it was frustrating some times.

This game is not only enjoyable, it's frustrating (but in a good way). This game is a bit more challenging than some of the other newer mario games. I couldn't be happier with that fact! it's great to see mario step it up in a whole new interesting way. Sure, they have had other paper games before, but not quite like this. This is one of my all-time favorite games for the wii u. I can't wait to get my girls to play with me on this one, so they can have some fun and splash color everywhere!

B. Imelda, Camden

The game had me chuckling the entire time. The jokes were funny and well worth a play through. Combat was pretty underwhelming, and i often found myself trying to farm/buy the appropriate cards instead of simply trying to just play through and beat the game. The roshambo temples offered a good way to gain coins, but their rng elements left something to be desired. . Overall i would recommend this game for anyone over 15 years of age or who considers them self a fan of paper mario. The game has a relatively difficult learning curve, but provides an immersive look into the paper mario world with lots of "colorful" jokes.
