Renegade Game Studios World’s Fair 1893 (529rgs) 5370

Review for world's fair

Price was $25.84. Be a part of history in world s fair 1893 by acting as an organizer of the fair and sending out your supporters to gain favor with influential people and ultimately securing the exhibits that will be displayed! the organizer who has earned the best reputation by the time the fair begins is the winner! . . World s fair 1893 is an area control game played in three rounds. That sounds like it would be a very short game, but there s a lot of decision-making that happens through each of the rounds. On her turn, each player does the following four things:. . * place a supporter in one of 5 different-colored areas. * play any influential figure cards acquired from your previous turn. * collect the cards from the area where the supporter was placed. Cards can be either main exhibit cards, influential figure cards, or midway ticket cards. * refill cards in colored areas. . Thematically, each colored area represents some aspect of the 1893 world s fair that made it so popular: great strides were made in the areas of agriculture, electricity, manufacturing, fine arts and transportation. At each turn, players have to make a lot of decisions. Do i want to focus trying to maintain support in one area at the expense of another? do i have a chance to win influence in this other area when my opponents have more supporters there right now? these are questions that i end up asking on each of my turns. It s not a brain burner, but the amount of strategy that can go into the decision-making aspects of this game feel chess-like. Not only can you plan your move, but you can also look to see what your opponents moves might be and try to thwart their attempts at gaining the support they need. . The game advances throughout each round based on midway tickets collected by all players collectively. For each midway ticket collected, a little trolley car meeple advances along its track. Once it reaches the end of the track, the round is over and the scoring phase begins! . . Players get points for having the most support in an area, but more importantly, players have the option of turning an exhibit card collected during the round into an approved exhibit. Approved exhibits aren t worth anything immediately, but at the end of three rounds, approved exhibits can be worth a lot of points. World s fair 1893 is designed so that players will want to get as many types of approved exhibits as possible because the more sets of different colored exhibits that are made, the more points/reputation players will earn. For example, a set of 3 colored exhibits is worth way more reputation than having just a set of 1 colored exhibit and a set of five different colored exhibits even more still. At the end, players count up how much reputation they ve gained and the player with the most reputation is the winner! . . Vhs (pros):. Easy to learn. Good introduction to strategy games without causing analysis paralysis. Fantastic artwork. Game scales well between 2 players and 4 players and contains board modifications for each grouping. . Betamax (cons):. Plays quickly! (i tend to like longer games). You may not like it if you don t like some randomness in games. The card refilling around the track may be too random for some players

I backed this game on kickstarter without a second thought as i have an affinity for all things colombian exposition related. When the game arrived i was unsure of the actual premises of the game however when everything was un-boxed the quality seemed evident. The rules were clear and easy to understand, with a group of 3 players able to learn and play a full game in about 40 minutes(this comes down to about 10 minutes per player). The game mechanics are simple while still being strategic in nature, which makes for a good ice breaker type game before diving into something heavy. I am more than pleased with this product and would recommend to any one looking for something new to try. Renegade game studios world's fair 1893 Review (529rgs)

Just purchased this game for my husband for our anniversary and we've played it twice this week already. It's not too similar to other games we own (splendor, coup, pandemic, and more) so it's a really nice addition to our collection! would definitely recommend -D. Marguerite

world's fair Toy, The world's fair of 1893 in chicago was a spectacular international exhibition that showcased many great achievements in science, technology, culture, and entertainment. acting as organizers of the fair, players work diligently to increase their influence throughout the fair and obtain the grand exhibits that will be put on display. the organizer who has earned the best reputation when the fair begins will emerge the victor. on each turn of world's fair 1893, the active player sends a supporter to one of the five areas and gather all of the cards by it. new cards are then added to some of the areas, and the next player takes a turn. the five areas represent sections of exhibits, like fine arts and electricity. some cards represent exhibit proposals in one of those five areas, others represent influential people who give you bonus supporters, and other cards represent tickets for attractions and concessions along the midway. the game consists of three scoring rounds, each triggered when players collectively gather a certain number of midway tickets. players gain reputation points for leading in number of supporters in an area and for gathering the most tickets in each round. the leaders in an area also receive approval for exhibit proposals they have gathered that match the area. players gain reputation points at the end of the game based on the breadth and diversity of their approved exhibits. 2 things i love are board games and the 1893 chicago world's fair. This game satisfies both and i wasn't disappointed at all. Tonight we played for the first time and did it twice. The first time there was definitely bit of a learning curve. The 2nd time we had it down. My only knock to it was that the instructions weren't super clear. I recommend watching a 15 min instructional video on youtube instead or along with reading the directions.

As head of their family, each player tries through clever use of their action cards to advance the power and prestige of their family, but penalties are assessed on those who do not take care of the health of the people who live in their borough. The player with the most prestige at the end wins. The "new person i & ii" expansions allow for more variety during gameplay since these characters make different actions available to the players. Thames & Kosmos Imhotep Builder of Egypt Board Game

This is a great game, really easy to learn. Resource gathering, strategic moves, sometimes helping yourself, sometimes trying to derail the other players. So far we've only played with 2 players, but i imagine it'll be a lot of fun with 4 as well. . Just one thing, there was an additional item in the box. Fortunately, he's really cute so i'll keep him ; ) just kidding - my cat wanted to be part of the gang and feel like he was playing too. But he lacks opposable thumbs so he plays in boxes haha

Imhotep. The legendary architect of the egyptian monuments. His awe-inspiring structures and brutal tactics earned him divine status among ancient egyptians. Can you match his ruthless determination to build the most revered monuments? to do this, you will need to transport stone blocks on ships from your quarry to different construction sites. But you alone do not choose where the ships go. Your opponents have monumental plans of their own and want to prevent your success. A fierce competition for the precious stone resources plays out. Only with the right strategy and a little luck can you succeed. In imhotep, the players take on the roles of ancient egyptian architects. Over six rounds, they try to transport their stone blocks to end up in the most valuable positions at five construction sites: pyramid, obelisk, chamber tomb, temple, and market. But a player can only choose one of three actions in a turn: excavate a new stone block from the quarry, load a block onto a ship, or move a ship to a construction site. From there, the massive stone blocks must be unloaded in order from bow to stern and placed on the sites in preset sequences. Depending on where the blocks end up, players earn different point values either immediately or at the end of the game. In each turn, you must weigh your options for getting your own stones into place and thwarting your opponents' placement plans. You must get your blocks to the right places, in the right order, at the right time to be the greatest architect.

Good game. I give it this rating after 1 play. I could see the rating going up after future plays. This is a different style game with, what i would think would be, new game mechanics for most.

San Francisco Cable Car

Fun game, a lil slow

At the beginning of the 20th century in san francisco, cable cars are seen everywhere in town. Every player expands his cable car lines and is awarded points for every line connected to a destination station. If he is able to connect his line to the power station in the center, the received points are doubled! who will own the most successful cable car lines at the end of the game?

San Francisco Cable Car (Queen Games) FAQ.

This is a fun, family weight, game. I was initially concerned that the art looked muddy and bland in images you see, but in person it is delightful and fun. The pieces fit together in clever ways as you build out the city. Another good feature is that the length of the game is set. The game is over when all tiles are placed. How much time you spend deciding where to place things is of course up to the player, but you always can see how many more tiles are to be played before the game will end. The rules are easy to learn and quick to play. The game is a good value. -Notice from W. Adrienne, New Mexico

- N. SarahThis is such a fun game. It's cheaper than ticket to ride and easier to play, yet can be more strategic. You pretty much connect your colored stations to terminals and the more cards in between, the more points you get. You can also block opponents, or they could unexpectedly help you. Great for all ages and skill levels.

Fun pathfinding game that's great for kids and adults alike. The gameplay is a little like carcassonne: take a tile, put it down immediately. If you're looking for a strategy-heavy game, look elsewhere, but it's a cute, quick play. . The "secondary" mode of play with train stocks put a different spin on the game without changing the core gameplay. Other users' reviews make it sound like it's a completely different game, but realistically the stocks change very little other than the colors of the cars you care about. . For what it is, it's a five-stars game. I can't get over its design choices, though, which is why i give it only four stars. For one, the colors available to play are dictated by the number of players. For example, if there are two players, you will be playing as blue and yellow cars, because there aren't enough red or purple cars to play with only two players. That's a silly cost-cutting measure. For another, the box is absolutely huge for no discernible reason.

Renegade Game Studios Lanterns: The Harvest Festival

Lanterns is an abstract tile-placement game with wide appeal. It's essentially a set-collector in which you trade in combinations of colored cards to score points. (each color has a unique pattern to assist with color-blind players). You acquire certain colors of cards by placing tiles in a particular orientation, adjacent to other tiles. Sides of adjacent tiles don't have to match, but if they do you receive extra cards. Very easy to learn and play, and you'll finish a game in about 12-15 minutes per player. . Easy as it is to play, strategy fans will find enough depth to consider lanterns a midweight game. Point values for particular sets of cards diminish as the game progresses. For example, the first time a player trades in 4-of-a-kind, they will receive more points than the third player to do it. The market for each type of card is limited. Cards in possession are not hidden from other players. A particular orientation of a tile you place might give you a color you want, but also give another player a card that enables them to complete a set. . The art design is pleasant, meant to represent a top-down view onto a lake during an evening fireworks display (the starting tile shows a person in a rowboat). The wooden favor tokens are stamped in red with kanji that i can't read, but probably matches some hipster's inner-arm tattoo. The non-textured cards are average quality, and they are frequently handled. Consider sleeving them if you will play often. Handle the cardboard tiles carefully to avoid tearing the graphics on the back, since unlike the cards, the tiles in your hand are hidden. . Another game that i really enjoy which i find similar to lanterns is splendor. Both have a small footprint, a limited market that replenishes, shorter length of play, scales well from 2-4 players, very few rules to grok, but with an economy of decisions that subtly affect the final outcome. Personally, i consider these to be two of the best abstract games of recent years, and you can play both in the same amount of time as one game of settlers of catan or ticket to ride.

Place tiles, adorn the palace lake, and dedicate lanterns in this beautiful, fast-paced board game set in imperial china. 36 lake tiles 56 lantern cards 20 engraved wood favor tokens 30 dedication tokens 1 custom wooden fishing boat rulebook the harvest is in, and now it's time to celebrate! lanterns: the harvest festival is a tile- placement game set in imperial china. Players act as artisans decorating the palace lake with floating lanterns. The artisan who earns the most honor before the festival arrives wins the game. On your turn, you can take these three actions one time each: place a lake tile, which gives every player (even your opponents! ) a lantern card based on the orientation of the tile. (it also could give the active player bonus lantern cards or favor tokens, depending on the placement. ) spend favor tokens to trade one lantern card for another. Dedicate sets of lantern cards to gain the honor you need to win the game.

Renegade Game Studios Lanterns: Harvest Festival (00502rgs) FAQ.

Great, easy game. Highly recommend it for the whole family. . In my opinion, it's very similar to ticket to ride. You're collecting sets of colored lanterns which you can trade in for points on your turn, very straightforward. What i prefer about this game is how active each turn is, even if it's not your turn. Everyone gets a new lantern every time a tile is played, unlike trr where you only get cards on your turk and the drawing is completely random. . Ticket to ride has a slightly more competitive element, with the limit number of routes available, which can be fun or completely off-putting for some people. Lanterns usually ends in very close games and no one usually feels cheated or closed off from winning. . Both are great games, but since receiving lanterns, ticket to ride hasn't gotten any table time :/ -Notice from U. April, Lincolnshire

So, easy to learn and some good depth. My 11 year old loves strategy games and didn't want to play this because it seemed too easy or too light. To be clear this is not a deep strategy game, but it has enough that my 11-year-old really like it and asks to play it. My wife says: a chill game that has a bit of competition to it. . On a random turn you collect one card (cards are used to make sets. Sets award points like in rummy) and your competitors do as well. Where the strategy is that with planning (and a bit of luck) you can have turns where you collect 2, 3, 4, and in rare cases 5 cards while your competitors just collect the one. That's the fun. Setting yourself up in a way where you're turning sets in every turn and your competitors cannot.

Renegade-game-studios-lanterns:-harvest-festival-(00502rgs) set picture

- C. MillerThis review was written by my daughter-in-law:. . My husband recently discovered this game at a work retreat, we later went to a game shop to test play it, and now we've purchased it and played 3 times the day it arrived. It is the perfect game for when we're feeling like a strategy game but don't have the energy or time to play our favorites (amerigo, agricola, imhotep). Sometimes it was a little frustrating to have the luck of drawing lake tiles, but the decisions that can be made with each tile make up for the randomness. There is enough strategy for us, where we are thinking at least one turn ahead and trying to limit each other's actions, but it is also simple enough that we feel confident our non-strategy gaming family and friends will enjoy playing it with us (though we've yet to test this theory). At the end of each game, our end scores were within 1-3 points of each other; it was nice to see that even in the end when one of us thought we were fairly behind, we still had a chance of getting even or pulling ahead if we played our hand exactly right. . Play time for us ranges between 20-35 minutes, and the components are artwork are lovely to hold and see. We're looking forward to getting the expansion soon!

Wonderful game! this is something everyone in the family can enjoy. It's one of the first few games we introduce new gamers to, and was one of the ones my parents played and immediately had to have. It's easy to teach, turns are simple, but there's a strong element of planning and strategy involved. . It is similar to dominoes with the added elements of cards, "favor tokens", and victory points in the form of dedication rewards. The main premise is to match the color on the tile you're laying to the color on a tile already on the table, but you'll sometimes want to try to match a certain color because you need that card. For example, if you match a white to a white on the side that is facing you, you'd get 2 white cards. If you already have 2 red and 2 blue, you'd now have enough to turn in a dedication of 3 pair. On the other hand, if you match a white on the opposite side and have a purple facing you, you'd get 1 white and 1 purple, which might finish out your 7 unique.

Ravensburger Broom Service - Strategy Game

First off let me describe a little bit about me so you can understand where this review is coming from. I own about 50 tabletop boardgames ranging from random (munchkin and fluxx), part game (times up, code names, dixit, cash n guns), light strategy (camel up, king of tokyo, bang! ) to heavier strategy (revolution, castles of mad king ludwig, and robo rally). This game falls under heavier strategy to be sure. . Quick look: the game is 2-5 players with 4-5 players being the sweet spot. It will also take about 45-60 minutes to play 4-5 players. Each player will be using a deck of 10 cards (4 movement, 2 "sell potion", 3 make potions, and one weather fairy for clouds). Players will choose 4 out of the 10 cards to play. Each card can either be played "brave" or "cowardly". Playing "cowardly" is probably the wiser choice, but "brave" play can give you a slight bonus. Players will be moving their "witch" tokens (2 of them) on a play board consisting of various landscape types (prairie, forest, hills, and mountains. ) selling potions to the various towers give you points. Collecting clouds will earn pints at the end of the game which is a typical mechanic in these "european style" games - and this is certainly a european game since the cards also come in french. . Game play: player one plays his 1st card (say a mountain witch) cowardly and immediately moves one of witch tokens on a adjacent mountain terrain spot on the board. The next player must play their mountain witch card - if they don't have one they must pass. So basically it is much like having to follow "suit" in various card games. If a player decides to play "brave" then they must wait for everyone to play their "mountain witch" card (or whatever card was played first). If someone after them plays mountain witch (as per our example) and says "brave" then the previous "brave" player does not get to take his turn and forfeits his mountain witch card. When all players have played their 4 cards then the round is over. After 7 rounds of play which witch wil have the most points? . . Opinion: i like this game. My wife liked it along with two 12 year old girls in the family. My son 15 would rather play video games (but he loves robo rally). Unlike robo rally where you program your cards and can basically set up how your turn is going to go, this game does not play that linear. If someone plays a hill witch card and you don't want to play yours until you played the forest witch, too bad! you have to follow suit. So you should not plan on it working out the way you were expecting. The nice thing is the way the board is designed you usually have numerous options to move one of your two witches. Most terrain spaces have 3 other terrains attached to it. It might take 1 or 2 plays to get used to it. I've played it three times, and really enjoy the strategy elements of it, but have come to realize that sometimes my "plan" won't work out. . Final word: i got the game for 28 bucks, and think that i will get 28 bucks worth of play out of it. My game group should enjoy it, but it is a slightly heavier game than most of the games my group plays. Broom service won the kennerspiel des jahres 2015 - that is the game of the year award handed to a "heavier strategy game of the year". It got a lot of flack from gamers because it really isn't that heavy of a strategy game, but it certainly require more strategy than say camel up or code names which won game of the year. - find a board game group in your town and play it before you buy it. I played it on a tuesday - bought it 3 days later.

Running out of potions? then it's time for broom service! wild witches zoom on their brooms, covering miles with their vials throughout the magical realm. They search and scour the land to gather roots, herbs and fruit to brew your concoctions, and drizelda will help charm away the cloudy weather. Play the right card, at the precise moment, and woosh to the win! score the most victory points by delivering potions via broom service throughout the magical realm. Broom service is a card-based game that combines luck, skill and balances timely bluffing with clever hand management. Remake of the award-winning witch's brew: new theme! now with 3 types of roles: witches, druids, and gatherers. Drizzelda, the weather fairy, helps chase away the bad weather. New illustrations and game pieces. Same style of play, and by the same game designer as witch's brew. Now also includes a 2-player version. The game is played over 7 rounds, with 4 turns per round. Each round, players simultaneously select 4 of their 10 role cards, and then take turns playing one role at a time. Each role has a brave action and a cowardly action; the brave action is stronger, but riskier, as another player could steal the action from you later; the cowardly action is safer, but not as robust. How well can you bluff your opponents? use the gatherer roles to collect ingredients to make potions, the witch roles to zoom around on your broom to different areas, and the witch or druid roles to deliver the potions - collecting victory points as you go. Chase away lightning clouds with the help of the weather fairy, and keep an eye on the event cards that change game play, one event per round. The winner is the player with the most victory points after all 7 rounds are complete and end-of-game bonus points have been awarded.

Ravensburger Broom Service - Strategy Game (81083) FAQ.

What a great game. Super fun and worth every penny. Plays great at 3 or 4 players. The strategy on the "easy" side gets repetitive (race to the upper right hand corner), and i do mean repetitive. There isn't really an alternate route to victory if you let anyone have it to themselves. The "hard? " side changes it up a bit but still just pay attention to the higher scoring towers to win. -Notice from S. Adrienne, Hawaii

Great family game that is not too complicated in the easy mode, so easy to learn. Can be played in a more complicated mode once you've learned how to play. You are a fairy delivering potions, but you must decide whether to be brave or cowardly. Only 1 brave fairy of each type can deliver each round, so if someone playing after you has that fairy to play and you were trying to be brave you won't get to play her.

- H. SusanNotyourdaddysboardgame. Gameplay: you deploy a witch (movement and/or delivery), a druid (delivery), gatherer (acquisition), or weather fairy (obstacle clearance). You make and deliver potions across the board for varying points with weather obstacles in the way. Each character has a brave or cowardly action - brave gets more rewards, but can lose it all, while cowardly is smaller but immediate with no risk. Its a gambling game against your opponent. And as a final layer - each "round" has a new stipulation to shake up the gameplay. Alternative gameplay: there are included pieces and rules to make the game harder. The board also flips to a harder gameplay. Box and packaging: great witch theming and super cute art! there's tons of pieces to the point of intimidating, but many aren't used except for alternative/harder gameplay. Don't let it scare you from the game. Players: 2-5, but you need at least 3 for chaos theory to work. Otherwise its not a gamble and just predicting your opponent. Strategy: high! lots of planning ahead. Replay-ability: lots of replay value.

Broom service is an excellent pick up an delivery game with some great push your luck elements. When someone hears the rules of the game they often do not think that the game will be that deep, but once the first round starts everything clicks and they see the depth. In broom service a player is choosing four out of ten cards to play. The cards will allow the player to gather resources (3 types), move and deliver (4 types), deliver in the same space (2 types), or remove storm clouds (1 type). When the round begins a player will have to decide if they are a brave witch, allowing for the best action possible, or be a cowardly witch, a simple fast action. The reason for the choice is if the cowardly action is taken they get to do it immediately, but if the brave action is taken they have to wait to see if any of the other players have that card. If other players do have it they need to play it and choose to be cowardly or brave. If brave is chosen they cancel the previous players action as only one player per round can perform the brave action associated to the card. If a player managed to do the brave action after all players have passed, or done cowardly, they get the best action, but they have to begin the next round of card play. The game lasts seven rounds, then players will total up their score to find the winner. The game as mentioned before has a lot of depth. It also has a ton of replay value as 7 out of 10 cards are chosen to begin each round that either modify what happens in the game round or gives an opportunity to players to score victory points. The game also comes with additional ways to change how the game plays, and a two sided board. Great game for the price that leads to a lot of regret for being brave or cowardly, and laughter.

An excellent area control game with simple but clever mechanics. Absolutely fun, easy to explain in just a couple of minutes. The theme is a real joy as well if you like history even a little. Cards contain real exhibitions and attractions from the 1893 world fair that don't affect the game but are fun in their own right.

I absolutly love this game! took about 45 minutes to set up and play through the very first round (out of 3). Once we figured out what we were doing, the game went fast and was fun. We played 4 times and it didn't get old.

I really like this game! it is fun. I really like the design and theme of the game as well. It came with bags for each different part of the game which is nice.

The world's fair of 1893 was held in chicago to celebrate the 400th anniversary of columbus's 1492 arrival. It was also used to demonstrate chicago's revival after the great chicago fire of 1871. It took up over 600 acres of lands and contained over 200 buildings, which contained food, art, technology, and entertainment. More than 26 million people visited the fair. One of the greatest sights at the fair was the ferris wheel - an original invention meant to rival the eiffel tower, which was the showpiece of paris' world's fair in 1889. This ferris wheel helped save the chicago world's fair from ruin and it serves as the game board for one of renegade game studio's recent games - world's fair 1893. The game is designed by j. Alex kevern and plays 2-4 (ages 10+). It sells for anywhere between $25 and $40, depending on where you shop. . Setup. 1. Place the central board and top wedge together to form a ferris wheel, making sure both sides match the number of players. (in a two-player game, there will be nine spaces to move on the ferris wheel. ). 2. Arrange the five area tiles (agriculture, electricity, fine arts, manufacturing, and transportation) randomly around the ferris wheel. 3. Place the ferris wheel car on the central board covering the start space and the round marker at on the far left space at the beginning of round 1. 4. In a two-player game, remove one midway ticket card five main exhibit cards (one from each of the five categories mentioned above). Then, shuffle together all the midway ticket, main exhibit, and influential figure cards together. 5. Place two cards from this deck next to each of the five area tiles. 6. Give each player 22 supporter cubes of one color (purple, blue, white, or yellow), and have each player place one cube on each of the five area tiles. 7. Set all exhibit approval tokens, midway coins, and leader medals in an easily reachable area. 8. Randomly determine a start player and give each player a start bonus card, which corresponds to their player number. . Game play - the game takes place over three rounds with a scoring phase occurring after each round. A round ends when the ferris wheel card makes it around the central board one time. 1. Place a supporter cube in one of the five area tiles. 2. Play any influential figure cards you may have collected from previous turns and perform the action on the card. 3. Collect the cards from the area tile you placed your supporter cube, and place them face up in front of you. For every midway ticket card you claimed, move the ferris wheel car one space. 4. Add three new cards to game board - 1 in front of the area tile, you just placed your supporter cube and 1 each in front of the next two area tiles (assuming they are not at their maximum card limit). . Scoring. 1. Redeem midway tickets - gain one midway coin for each midway ticket. The leader (or leaders if there is a tie) gains a bonus two midway coins. Discard midway tickets. 2. Score area tiles one at a time - the player(s) with the most supporter cubes in an area tile gains a leader medal worth two or four points (depending on number of players) and may approve a certain number of main exhibits (depending on number of players and ties). Each exhibit approved receives an exhibit approval token of the matching color. These tokens will be specially scored at the end of the game, depending on the variety you have managed to collect. 3. Recall supporter cubes - for every pair of supporter cubes in an area tile, remove one from the area tile and put it back in your supply. (for example, with two or three supporter cubes in the area, you would have to remove one. ). . Review. This game is a euro game at its core. You put cubes on a board, execute an action. The three game mechanisms for this game are area control (having the most supporter cubes on an area tile), set collection (having a variety of exhibit approval tokens i. E. , one of each color to score fifteen points as opposed to five of one color to score five points), and card drafting (collecting the cards in front of the area tile where you placed your supporter cube) so what makes this different from other euro games? i would say theme and the approachable nature of the game. Let's look at each of those individually. . Let's start with the theme. A lot of themes in euro games feel like they were pasted on and you are only focusing on the mechanics. World's fair 1893 is steeped in theme, and one that makes sense! the game board is a giant ferris wheel, which was the showpiece of the chicago world's fair in 1893. The main exhibit cards are beautifully illustrated and contain fun facts about the exhibits. For example, did you know that "norway sailed a replica ship to chicago to show that vikings could have reached america. "? the midway ticket cards also contain attractions that people were able to attend. Lastly, the influential figure cards contain several important people, like daniel burnham who was the director of works for the world's fair. The only complaint i have with the theme is that i wish there had been more unique influential figures as opposed to multiples of the same ones. . The next thing that makes this game better than other euro games is its approachable nature. I feel like i've said this about a few games recently, but it is easy to learn and quick to play. (maybe my group just tends to steer towards lighter games. ) i would say this game is even easier to learn than stone age, which until world's fair 1893, was my go-to for teaching euro games to people. World's fair 1893 also takes half the time to play (30-45 minutes compared to 60-90 minutes) compared with stone age. However, this ease of learning and playing doesn't make the strategy and decisions any less tense. For example, if someone played in the agriculture area the turn before you did, then there would only be one card up for grabs in that area on your turn. However, you might really need to go there to get a specific card or re-gain majority. So do you go to that less than desirable spot and give up potentially more cards and/or the chance to tie/gain a majority in another area? tough decision! . . Euro games are usually tough to bring to my game group, because we are all parents with young (sometimes very loud children), so we have to play quicker games usually. However, this is a quicker euro game, and because of that it has received the most playing time. The first time we played through it, we were more focused on getting used to the game and well, winning. (because who doesn't want to win? ) the next couple of times though, we slowed down a little bit and appreciated the art, factoids, and theme of the game. So if you are new to the hobby or haven't found a euro game to introduce to your group yet, look no further than world's fair 1893. . This game was provided to me for free by renegade game studios in exchange for an honest review.

Game plays over three quick rounds. You place your sponsors in various exhibit categories: manufacturing, agriculture, fine arts, electricity, or transportation. If you've chosen well, you can then choose exhibits to build at the end of each round. At the end of the game you gain points for the number and variety of exhibits you've contributed to the fair. You might sponsor the daimler quadricycle (the only automobile on display), the remington typewriter, the chocolate pavilion (30, 000 pounds of chocolate), the teleautograph (precursor to the fax machine), or many other cutting edge inventions of the day. Or, you can sponsor any number of paintings or art objects, such as a collection of japanese vases, all of which were on display at the fair in 1893. You can also collect midway tickets for a point apiece at the end of each round, for rides and attractions such as the first ferris wheel, balloon rides, a diving show, or even the zoopraxographical hall featuring lectures on animal motion with projected motion pictures. There are even influential people such as bertha palmer and george westinghouse to help you increase your number of sponsors. The game is easy to learn and there is plenty to do when it's not your turn as you plan your next moves in an ever changing environment. Lots of fun and scores tend to be very close, making each choice important.

We have played both 2-player and 4-player. 2-player works well (sometimes these games work better with more people), but as everyone gets more experience with the game, it can get cutthroat! would definitely recommend. Artwork is very attractive, game pieces/board are well done.

Z. Bullock, Trafford says

Fun game with some really cool history involved. Easy to learn with great quality pieces. A bit too much component management for my liking ( constantly moving pieces and replacing cards) but overall is worth the purchase.

W. Pearson, Lewisham

Good game, plays somewhere between "ticket to ride" and "settlers of catan". Very quick, strategy varies depending on the group you are playing with.

This was a gift for my sister, and i finally got to play it last weekend. This very quickly became one of my new favorite games, and i am definitely going to buy one for myself now. I found the game play to be unique and easy to pick up as the game went along. We played with 4 players, and once we figured it out, the pace picked up quickly. We even played a second game because i was excited to try a new strategy. I think this game blends strategy and luck together well, and it is a great balance that i think will give the game lots of replay value. It's fun because it's hard to tell who is winning until the end since you do not actually calculate points until then. I can't wait to order this game for my own collection.

H. Wilson, Gloucestershire

One of the best games i have ever played.

R. Benton, Coventry says

The world's fair 1893 a great theme game. I researched the real life event and discovered that the columbian exhibit (in honor of 400 yrs since columbus arrived in america) was very popular. The dececco pasta company won a gold medal for their pasta. I found the recipe for fusilli with brussel sprounts, cauliflower and parmesan on the dececco website and made it for my world's fair 1893 party for 7 ladies. The game has many cards with historical facts about events and people which are of interest even if you do not play the game! the game is very easy to teach. I facilitated 3 teams of 2 ladies each and it worked out well. I find 3 players or 2 teams of 3 players each works better than playing with 2 players or 4 players. The game is very reasonably priced.

We really love playing this game! it is easy to teach others how to play, and everyone wants to play multiple times. This is a keeper for sure!

B. Connie, Sutton

We backed the kickstarter, so we've had the game for a while, and it's a family favorite. If you are new to gaming, this is a great choice, it's about the same complexity as something like ticket to ride, if you are a gamer already, this is a nice, lighter weight combination of area control and set collection, with some interesting choices. You have to be aware of how you are setting up your neighbor with your selection. The people involved in the game spent a lot of time adding flavor text to the cards you play and collect that you don't have to read to play, but if you take the time to read it you will actually learn a lot about this pivotal occasion at an amazing time in the world. My 11 year old loves it, highly recommended for families and game groups looking for a fun 30 minute game.
