Sleeping Queens 10th Anniversary Tin Card Game (Gamewright) 4872

Review for sleeping queens anniversary tin

Price was $14.99. My 4 year old loves playing this game! she picked up on the rules pretty fast, though we adjusted the game to her age level by removing the jester cards and by saying the first person to get 5 queens wins instead of counting up points. However, whenever we steal queens or put them back to sleep, we discuss which are the best options based on the queens' point values so that we can build toward playing with points one day.

Introduction

This was an instant favorite in our house! we first played it at a kid's game club, and knew we had to get it right away. The small size is perfect for bringing with when going to a friend's house or on a trip. You do need some space to spread the queens out when you play, so it may not work great on a plane (you could possibly do it, just not the easiest thing in the world). . The game can feel very daunting at first. It seems like there are a lot of rules and a lot of information to remember. Just play it! it's one of those games that doesn't fully make sense until you actually play it. Once you play it it all seems so obvious and easy! if you've played sushi go, also by gamewright, you'll know what i'm talking about. This is easier to learn than sushi go. Game play is simple, but fun. Even my three year old was able to pick up on the game! this is a kid who doesn't grasp how to play any other game, or have the attention span for any other game! he loves sleeping queens and will play an entire game and ask to play again! . . I'm not going to go into full detail on how to play because the video, description, instructions, and other reviewers have done that already. This is an awesome game though. Two friends have already purchased it for their kids because of our raving about it or the kids having played it together, and it's a favorite at their houses too now! even adults enjoy it. The perfect family game - quick, easy, low price, minimal space for storing! Sleeping Queens 10th Anniversary Tin Card Game Review (230t)

Add us to the list of happy players! 4. 5 year old loves it. As do i! it was a little overwhelming the first round, but now seems intuitive and easy. Playing the video on online store would have helped my child and myself. I loathe games of pure chance and find the cooperation games kind of boring. This was refreshing. While you're reading, i also recommend mancala for this age group. We've been loving that and sleeping queens! . . The tin is nice but should have slots for the cards instead of one holder for both times of cards. Weird choice to just keep them in one big stack since there are two different card types. -F. Maria

I was a bit hesitant to buy this game. Having four boys at home, i was not sure how a game called "sleeping queens" might go down with them! . But we absolutely loved the game! it's a fast-paced short game that kids as young as 5 can play by themselves too. You can play it before bedtime or even just before your kids leave for school! . I liked the material of the cards and the beautiful artwork that would appeal to both boys and girls. . It's a simple fun game that does not involve much strategy at all. So if you are a serious strategy game player it might not appeal to you too much but you'd still have fun playing it. The math that is involved is only counting, identifying patterns and simple addition. But maybe you could tweak the rules a bit and try to introduce subtraction to make it a tad bit more challenging. . Overal, our family loved the game and i can see it being the go-to game for a quick fun time! and i'd recommend it for anybody with little kids.

Very cute and easy for kids to understand, also teaches math and has strategy. Very fun for the whole family! i would highly recommend!"

Rat-A-Tat-Cat

A game of suspense, strategy, and anticipation. Get rid of the high cards (rats) and go for the low cards (cats). Sneak a peek, draw two, or swap cards for an added twist. Low score wins the game. (a poker face helps! )

Rat-A-Tat-CatGamewright-204-Rat-A-Tat-CatIt's never too early to develop a good poker face. With rat-a-tat cat, a poker face is just one of the skills players need to perfect. As in poker, luck, skill, strategy, and intuition each play a part. Players are dealt four cards, which are kept face- down, except for a quick peek at two of them. Each player in turn pulls a card from the draw pile to replace one of the four. Memory is important, as the object is to end with the lowest score, and players must keep track of the values on their four cards. "peek, " "swap, " and "draw two" power cards turn up occasionally, allowing players to maneuver and strategize further. Delightfully witty pictures of cats (the good guys-low points) and rats (bad guys-high points) illustrate each of the 54 cards. Young card sharks will develop a sense of timing and greater ease with numbers, and can begin to grasp the concept of probability. Dragonwood A Game of Dice & Daring Board Game

Dare to enter dragonwood! deep in the heart of this mythical forest lurk angry ogres, giggling goblins, and even the famed and fearsome fire-breathers themselves! collect sets of adventurer cards to earn dice, which you will use to roll against your foes. Stomp on some fire ants, shriek at a grumpy troll, or strike the menacing orange dragon with a magical silver sword. Choose your strategy carefully because the landscape of dragonwood is ever-changing. Only the bravest will overcome the odds to emerge victorious! it may be hard to imagine, but dragonwood, with its vast array of richly illustrated cards, started out looking much different than where it ended. Inventor darren kisgen submitted a prototype without a single illustration - just simple words and numbers written in marker on blank white cards. Well apparently that's all was needed, because within moments, our play testers were enraptured with the simple-to-learn but deeply engaging fantasy-themed game. Illustrator chris beatrice beautifully captured the wit and humor depicted in darren's words to create one of our most visually appealing games.

What a fun game this is. I play with my 7 year old granddaughter, her parents and sometimes a friend of hers. It is fast and fun. . I'm picked up this game for two reasons. 1: my granddaughter and her parents love sushi. 2: it was recommended as a very fun game. The goal of the game is to to achieve the highest score. Each person gets a number of cards depending upon the number of people playing. 2-5 people can play, but with two people it is not as much fun. Each card has a score number, you play 3 rounds and then add up your score from each game. The game is simple to play, play a few hands to pick up the fun of it. . In our family we play this 2-3 times a week. On vacations it's a fun game for everyone. The game is not expensive, and if you like playing games, you will really like this one. . Recommended. Sushi-go---pick-pass-card-game-(gamewright) set picture

- E. CarolSushi-go is a quick 10-15 min game that both non-gamers and gamers will all enjoy. The gameplay is a set collection game that uses card drafting to drive the play and allow for interesting, strategic, and bold decisions. Namely. What do i need to keep and what do my opponents need? . . The game is played in three rounds, and each round uses a combination of long term objectives and short term objectives that are discarded at the end of each of the 3 rounds, so each scoring goal for different card types must be completed within a single round or they are lost. There is one card, puddings, that are kept throughout the rounds. Whoever has the most puddings at the end of 3 rounds gets + points and whoever has the least amount of puddings gets - points. . The quality of the cards are like very nice playing cards. They're not to slick, they're just right really. The art on the cards is also very well drawn. . It really is a lot of fun, and because it's so short and portable you can play it anywhere and anytime!

One of the best family games we have played. We have a 10 year old, 8 year old and 4 year old, and struggle to find games everyone likes. This one takes it! all of the kids have their own goals in this game (the 4 year old wants to collect all of the "deserts" aka - puddings - and therefore wins the 6 bonus points at the end of the game - although her score is usually not much higher than that! ). Also we have just played us adults, which is just as fun, and a bit more competitive in our house i like to win! . . This game is broken up into 3 rounds and the bonus "pudding" points. It is easy to explain, can move quite fast. Also, the cards have clear words or pictures so that readers and non-readers can understand what the cards are supposed to do. It would be helpful to know numbers for points, but not necessary - because those younger kiddos don't usually care about "winning" in an official way. . We actually have bought two copies of this game. We keep one in our trailer for when we go camping, and we have one in the house. I would give this 10 stars if i could! . . On another note - upon a lengthy competitive discussion between myself and my husband - we contacted the "game maker" via facebook, and they settled the dispute - and i was right. :) - for the knowledge of others - if one person has all the maki rolls - they get the 6 points for having the most maki rolls. The 3 points for having "the second most maki rolls" is not assigned. - you have to at least have one maki roll to be eligible for this. (trust me, it was serious business in our house when the end score was 58 me and 57 husband - and we were disputing if he should get the 3 points! )

The F.A.Q. for sleeping queens 10th anniversary tin card game

This is a great game. I don't usually like games, but teaching math facts by flashcards to my math-averse first grader was so painfully boring and ineffective, that i had to try something different. Enter math games! we have tried a lot of them: sum swamp is a good one for preschoolers to first grade - very simple to learn and play, lots of practice with equations. I wish i had gotten sum swamp for my daughters when they were 4, because they will soon grow out of it. Rat-a-tat-cat was ok, but neither my 7- nor 8-year-old ever asks for it. Sleeping queens feels just enough not like a math game that everyone likes it. My younger daughter is allowed to add or subtract numbers in her equations. My older daughter is learning multiplication and division, so she is allowed to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Definitely recommend the 10th-anniversary version with the tin and extra queens. If you're weighing whether to buy sleeping queens or rat-a-tat-cat, we recommend sleeping queens, hands down. More interesting. More variety.

A number of questions have been asked here.

My wife saw a blog post about this game, which is why we purchased it initially. My kiddos loved it. We played together as a family and they played together without us. We played it so much that the first game is very worn. We decided we needed a nice version of the game, where the kiddos could not cheat by identifying cards by rips and bends. Kiddos are 5 and 7, boy and girl, and it is perfect for them to play alone. And we enjoy playing it with them. Fun card game, and not overly long. Family favorite and most played in our home.

I cannot say enough good things about this game! i bought it for my almost six year old, game-loving son after reading the rave reviews. Both him and my 3. 5 year old son can play and will not stop playing. It truly is a great family game that is fun to play with 2, 3 or 4 people. There are a lot of rules but they are simple to follow. We play through the entire deck of cards until nobody can make any more moves at the end as it s too tough with their ages to keep count of the queen points. This variation works well for us. Since i received this just about a month ago i can say it has been played well over 100 times. I m considering ordering a back up set of cards! i will be buying for all birthday gifts in the near future.

This game was highly recommended in some of my gameschool groups so i jumped and bought it. If allowed, our 5 year old will play this game over and over again. Shes started taunting us saying things like i m gonna shut you down! and i m coming for you! so while we really like this game i have to put limits on it as things can get out of hand (hahaha). It s fast paced and i like the math element. We made it harder for the older kids and they do multiplication problems in place of addition. It s a good buy.

C. Ruby, Australian Capital Territory

Such a great game. My daughter first received this when she was 6 and could easily catch on to the rules and game play. Now that she is 7, this is a common gift that she will give at classmates' birthday parties. It is fun and unique!

L. Evelyn, Wandsworth says

We had the basic game, and i was playing it multiple times a day with my kids. It is a great game, and not like playing go fish over and over for parents. The cards could be stronger. We had a bent one and it was common knowledge what that card was which made it a bit unfair. I bought this tin for my niece and when i realized that there were additional cards, i was able to justify buying the second set for us. It also teaches kids strategy, luck of the draw, and addition equations.

J. Lorenz, British Columbia

Artwork: 5 stars. Card deck: great condition and i love that silky smooth sliding feeling when holding them. Gameplay: super easy to understand and pick up. . Whether it's for a couple or family game night this game is very entertaining. Playing with 2 ppl is much quicker and simpler. So more ppl more fun as you strategize your cards and make other players put back or steal the awaken queens. . Great for kids and it helps them to learn math and simple multiplication

E. Pearson, Centre says

Super fun game! my family loves games! my 8 year old, 11 year old, and 14 year old have a great time with the game. My 6 year old niece even figured it out and enjoys it!

If i could give this 100 stars, i would. This game is so fantastic and my kids love it. My 3 year old can even play it, although the part about addition is a little too hard for her to grasp. She can play the game without even doing that, and so it's awesome. My four oldest kids (3, 6, 7, 10) are all able to play together which is a huge blessing to me! hard to find games that they can all play and enjoy! this is a keeper!

I had played this game about 10 years ago and remembered loving it. I just wasn't sure how my 8 and 4 year old boys would do. My 8 year old picked up on it immediately and loves it! to discard the number cards, you try to come up with an equation to get rid of as many cards as you can (a 2, 3, and 5 card can be played as 2+3 5). This is great addition/subtraction practice for him. My husband really enjoys this part of the game as well, coming up with most complex equations he can think of with a max of 5 numbers at a time. He'll throw in multiplication and division. My 4 year old has figured out how to play the game, except for the equation aspect, of course. He knows he can discard any matching numbers, but when he has a bunch of number cards he will just hand the cards to me to see if there is an equation he can use. Other than that, he can play the game completely on his own and has the same chance of winning as anyone else. The artwork on the cards is adorable and gameplay seems to be just right at about 15 minutes per game. The more people playing, the better as you appreciate having time between turns to figure out how to discard all the number cards in your hand. Hands down, this is the favorite game of everyone in the family and we have played it daily since buying it.

This game is so much fun for our entire family to play (ages 5, 8, 11, and mom and dad). Simple enough that the little guy can understand and figure out the strategy, but engaging to the point that my husband has declared himself the "champion! " with check beating. (can be competitve). And the rounds are relatively short (usually under 20 minutes), which is a bonus in my book! . There is a little "learning" time before the first time you play, but by round 3 you don't really need the rules at all! . I had learned of this game from a blog i read before christmas & decided to purchase. And i'm so happy i did! in fact, we will probably be gifting it to folks in the future. One of the best games you can buy to spend some quality time as a family with young-ish kids. In fact, we played tonight and after one lively round, we asked if they wanted to play again or go watch some tv, and all three chose to play again.

Our family really enjoys this game! a good intro to very basic strategy. I definitely recommend this anniversary edition. The metal tin is really nice (all kid games should come with more durable storage options like this in my opinion) and the bonus queens are a fun addition.

We absolutely love this game! my four year old caught on very quickly. It's her favorite and we play it a ton! i love that both children and adults can play without getting bored. My daughter has even learned some simple addition by playing. Highly recommend this game (especially the anniversary edition)! we have convinced many others to purchase as well.

This game is our favorite. The whole family loves it and our 5 year old wants to play it every day. What's really great is us adults really enjoy it too! the game is very imaginative and the illustrations are amazing and fun. Especially love that it was created by a 6 year old girl. Great inspiration for our little one. It says 8 and up but our 5 year old loves it. Needs a little bit of guidance on some of the math but otherwise gets it and can play abouy 95% independently. We are big domino fans but this is now the new family favorite.

Our 6-year-old loves this game. The rules are simple enough to teach to even younger kids (a four- or five-year old who can do basic addition would do fine), and there's a reasonable amount of strategy that makes it not unbearable for parents to play along. . Do be aware that much of the gameplay involves taking cards away from other players, so there's the possibility of the whole table ganging up on one player. That makes it a poor choice if you want a game that avoids direct confrontation.
