Introduction

Like the fruit velcro set this one makes a nice crunch sound when cutting apart. Grandchild does enjoy peeling and tearing apart the vegetables to make a stew in her play pot. Pieces are slick though and tend to slide all over the place but this may be because the child is still a toddler and not developmentally skilled enough to hang on to the pieces when "cutting". Prefers tearing them apart by hand. Appreciate the heavier plastic - but light weight enough to play with. Update: this is my third re order, great product, fun and educational. I reorder this one as a gift. My granddaughter loves it very muchvery well made, bright colors and very good quality velcro. I bought this toy for my 14 month granddaughter and she loves it, she is still learning how to use the knife but it is perfect for her little hand. Great product. Great fruit and vegetables selection. The cutting board is a bit small, i would have liked it to be bigger so it would be easier on my granddaughter, the fruit and vegetable fall very easy from the smal cutting board, but over all great product and i know my granddaughter will enjoy for a long time. -X. Bought this for my 19-month old son a few weeks ago. Total hit. He loves being in the kitchen when i cook, but always demanded participating in "real thing". How he is happy sitting on the counter making his "salad" while i do the rest. Velcro is awesomely strong, despite the small pieces. The kit is versatile to develop different motor functions: cutting, peeling, tearing apart, etc. . A minor design flaw is the fact that some naturally round shapes like avocado and onion are very tough to hold for a kid while cutting them, since they have no flat surface to rest on and slip. The kit also comes with no bag, but i use a lunch bag with a zipper for storage and add a bowl to make it a perfect complete set. We also take on indoor play dates - it's great for multi-kid play.

I was super excited about this toy because my daughter had really liked a set that a friend had. I think it works very well it is easy to cut the pieces and the activities listed on the back to help teach fractions and such are super helpful. I would not rate it as a 5 star because the colors were not as vibrant as in the picture. But we still really enjoy and like this toy. It is very fun and useful for teaching life skills.

This wooden set features a wooden knife and seven pieces of sliceable fruit that can be cut into a total of 17 pieces. Food makes a realistic "crunch" sound when sliced. With so many pieces, it's also a great way to introduce the concepts of part, whole and fractions!

My 2-year-old loves these. We got her a play kitchen for xmas and have been stocking it with healthy play food so these were a perfect fit. I love that it has a canteloupe slice. She loves canteloupe and every other set out there has watermelon. The paint on the canteloupe is not perfect like it is in the picture but it's fine. It's also weird how the banana slices but i guess if you were going to slice a banana with the peel still on that's probably how you'd do it! they could have maybe skipped the banana and put in an apple instead. This is a really fun way to teach whole, half, third and quarter. And the velcro that holds the fruit together provides a realistic cutting sound with the safe wooden knife included. You get a nice variety of fruits and it's beautifully made. - A. ElidaWhoever thought of this was awesome! i bought this for my 4 year old daughter. We've only had it for a few days and she has played with it non stop. I think it is a pretty well made set. Packaging: the set comes in a wooden tray with the sides about 2 inches tall and pretty well made. The fruit sits in molded plastic holding each piece separate. The bottom of the tray has a picture of hay. I took the plastic out so its easier for my daughter to take care of it, she can just put all the pieces in the tray. Knife: good imitation wooden knife. It's about 8 inches long and shaped like a butcher knife. Fruit: set comes with a strawberry, pear, kiwi, cantaloupe, melon, orange, and lemon. They are made of solid wood, and the pictures/colors on them are painted on, not stickers. The pieces of fruit are held together by velcro that is inset in the center of each piece. The velcro is white and it about the size of a nickel. I think the velcro could be larger on some of the bigger pieces of fruit (the pear for instance) to hold it together better, but what it has does do the trick. When cutting the fruit, it does imitate real cutting. My daughter actually has to put "work" into it to get them cut. As far as durability, i really can't say as we've only had it a week. I can see the velcro eventually giving out, but that would be an easy fix. I would recommend this product as i know it will give my daughter several years of fun!

We love melissa and doug - and our almost 2 year old has enjoyed adding this cutting fruit set to his growing collection. The velcro is strong enough to hold the pieces together without falling apart on their own (even the heavier pieces), but loose enough that it's not difficult for little ones to "cut" through it. We also love that the velcro is soft enough that it doesn't scratch or irritate our little ones skin while he's handling the pieces.

My little guy loves pretending to cut these. He's almost 2, i wasn't sure if this would be too advanced for him but it's actually perfect. He stands next to me while i make dinner and chops his food! quality is decent, one of the pieces broke apart the first time we tried to tear the velcro pieces apart, but a little glue fixed it right up. The velcro was pretty stiff the first pull apart, but if you twist instead of pull it worked pretty well and was easier for him to cut right away! i would definitely buy this again!

Based on the reviews i almost didn't buy this cutting fake food set, im glad i did buy it! it's decent for the price & the fruit & veggies are very durable! the only reason im giving this four stars instead if five is because the knife, plate and cutting board are a little on the flimsy side and some pieces different colors have bleed into the fruit and veggies but it's really not that big of a deal barley noticeable! the knife cuts good even though it's flimsy, the cutting board i am the most disapointed in its very very small it should be at least twice the size that it is. Anonymous* price* i'd been looking for a set of these play foods that you can "cut" for a while now, and this product was the best deal i could find in terms of price and number of pieces included. This set was by far cheaper than any other one i was able to find with the same (or close to) number of pieces. . *product quality* each piece of "food" is made from a fairly rigid plastic that does not bend/dent easily, making them great for all of those small reckless children out there, like mine! when making our very 1st "cuts" into the food with the supplied plastic knife, i was a little surprised by how difficult it was. The velcro holding the two sides together was actually pretty tough to cut all the way thru, especially for my 2 (almost 3) year old. Also, being brand new, the pieces were secured firmly together, leaving the space between them very very small. And more thin than the knife. So at the beginning, we had some trouble getting it to do what it was supposed to. . In order to remedy this issue, i spent a few minutes pulling each food item apart and rubbing their velcro pieces against each other, in order to kind of "fluff" them up. This completely resolved the issue of difficulty cutting them apart and having enough room for the knife to get thru. Once we fixed it, we have had no problems with it at all. . *fun-ness(? )* my daughter absolutely loves this play set. Every morning, she gets up and runs downstairs to grab her "fruits" and starts playing as soon as soon as her hands can get to them. I can already see how much a toy like this helps with developing hand-eye coordination, as she has to carefully line up the knife parallel to the split in the food in order for it to work. It also is a great creative tool for her; we "cook" with the different fruits and veggies, making all sorts of pretend dishes in her pots and pans. . Overall, a fantastic toy for young kiddos that will help with their development, while also providing endless hours of fun. I would give 5 stars, but the only thing that keeps me at a $ is just because of how difficult it was to "cut" at first and i could see other people getting frustrated with it and not being happy with it. If you spend the 5 minutes "fluffing" the pieces, it makes a world of difference!

Very cute & as described. The knife is much too wide & i wish it was thinner to make getting between those veggies easier. Like other reviews said the veggies that have the "peels" on them don't stick very well but they are still cute. The cutting board is definitely very small but overall it's cute & my daughter enjoys cutting the veggies & putting them back together. I would say a little overpriced & wish it was $5-$7 cheaper.

Bought these for my 3 yr daughter and 5 yr old autistic son for christmas. They love them play with them for hours everyday. No problems with the velcro they stick well. No problems with packaging. I do wish the cutting board was a bit larger though. . I also purchased the joyin toy wooden cutting food as well thinking that the wooden pieces would be better but a couple came chipped and i worried about wooden slivers, and the velcro on a couple don't stick well. But i did like the bigger size of the cutting board though and they came with a wooden box the food sits in, easy to store the food in. More detailed and brightly colored very realistic. My kids play with both sets equally and don't seem to prefer one over the other. . I did like the plastic ones more myself because you got more pieces for your buck and all the pieces arnt the same some peel like the corn and lettuce and my kids seem to enjoy those the most vs just the cutting with a knife.

We got this set along with a play kitchen for my two year old for her birthday. I got it after i read the reviews and i am glad to say i am so pleased with the set. They are plastic, but i didn't want wooden food (potential for throwing and thus, dents and others getting hurt). The plastic is fine. The food is lightweight, but so far they have bounced up and down on our tile floor and still look good as new. The velcro is firmly attached and i don't see it coming off anytime soon. The size of the food is perfect for little hands. They are not "life size, " but not teeny either. They fit in our play kitchen perfectly. My daughter loves taking them apart. Sometimes she uses the knife, but sometimes just her hands. I like that this toy is more than just food; it is a matching toy as my daughter has to find the correct pieces to put back together. The toy also has a child use muscles in their hands that are used for pulling apart and cutting with a knife. . Specifics on some of the food: most of the pieces cut in half (the onion in three pieces). The pea is a pod that shells with peas inside that come out. Someone mentioned this as a choking hazard. My daughter doesn't put them in her mouth, but at two years old, i also do not think she could swallow them as they are all together one piece. The corn, cauliflower (also cuts in half) and lettuce have leaves that can be pulled off. . The only possible con is that the leaves on the corn and cauliflower seem a bit loose because they are held on by little bits of velcro. However, they do stay on and my daughter loves peeling the leaves off. . Finally, another reason i chose this set is that it is veggies! i wanted my daughter to have play food that encouraged healthy choices. I got her this set and her grandmother has gotten the small world living fun-with-fruit for her for christmas. I love filling her kitchen with fruits and veggies! . . Update: had to come back and change the stars to a five for durability. They are still like new six months later!

I discoverd this product when i noticed my 3 year old watching a you tube video of someone "cutting" plastic vegetables. She would watch this video every night for months. When her birthday came around, i decided to figure out what these were so i could buy them. I am so happy i did. She absolutely loves playing with this, and i can understand why. The vegetables are made of sturdy plastic (you can't crush them), yet they are lightweight. They are vibrantly colored, are a great size (not too big & not too small) and they are fun to "cut" into. The velcro produces a somewhat realistic cutting feeling and sound. My daughter has cut into each vegetable probably hundreds of times, and the velcro is showing no signs of wear, and she is showing no signs of getting tired of it. This is a great toy, and i highly recommend it to anyone with a toddler or young child.

This set is more expensive than most of the play food sets i saw in stores, but there's good reason for that. They are superior quality, for sure. The plastic is harder and doesn't indent when you squeeze them, and the idea of slicing through the fruits and veggies with the play knife is ingenious. My 1 1/2 year old loves taking the pieces apart and reassembling them. I know this may sound silly, but i also love the fact that it is all fruits and veggies. My son has multiple severe food allergies and i hated the fact that almost all food sets came with something he couldn't eat in real life. So a bit of a personal bonus to this set, but it was a major factor in why i purchased it.

When i bought my toddler a play kitchen, these peel 'n' play velcro play set veggies were a must addition for her. She likes to play cooking by "slicing" through carrot, tomato, cauliflower, eggplant, broccoli and others included in this set with her play knife. The cutting action is basically opening with the knife "slicing" through the velcro attached pieces of veggies. Yes, it is simple yet kids love it. Also, the sound of the velcro coming apart by the slicing action seems fun to the kids. . The plastic used is durable and has withstood some time (two years so far) and use. Also, the plastics have no funny smell. Recommended.

Bought this for my 19-month old son a few weeks ago. Total hit. He loves being in the kitchen when i cook, but always demanded participating in "real thing". How he is happy sitting on the counter making his "salad" while i do the rest. Velcro is awesomely strong, despite the small pieces. The kit is versatile to develop different motor functions: cutting, peeling, tearing apart, etc. . A minor design flaw is the fact that some naturally round shapes like avocado and onion are very tough to hold for a kid while cutting them, since they have no flat surface to rest on and slip. The kit also comes with no bag, but i use a lunch bag with a zipper for storage and add a bowl to make it a perfect complete set. We also take on indoor play dates - it's great for multi-kid play.

I was a little worried that this might be too advanced for a birthday gift to a two-year-old, but she simply adores it. Right away, she started putting veggies on the cutting board and trying to push the "knife" through to "cut" them. It's challenging enough so that she really needs to concentrate, and she just loves "cooking"! we did a video chat while she and her mom opened it, and she started playing with it right away. It's now a few weeks later, and she still wants to cook vegetables (and give me a slice of pizza - another great toy purchased at the same time! ) whenever we videochat. Update: this is my third re order, great product, fun and educational. I reorder this one as a gift. My granddaughter loves it very muchvery well made, bright colors and very good quality velcro. I bought this toy for my 14 month granddaughter and she loves it, she is still learning how to use the knife but it is perfect for her little hand. Great product. Great fruit and vegetables selection. The cutting board is a bit small, i would have liked it to be bigger so it would be easier on my granddaughter, the fruit and vegetable fall very easy from the smal cutting board, but over all great product and i know my granddaughter will enjoy for a long time.
