Review for munchkin

Price was $19.99. This version of munchkin comes with the original munchkin dungeon and treasure cards in color, a board and 6 player cards & tokens to track player level and sex, a 6-sided munchkin die, and instructions. . I purchased this version over the original b/c i find the board, player cards, and tokens convenient to track player level and it was well worth the cost. The tokens all have the same model (male munchkin from the cover on the box). My wife wished they had girl munchkins to match her player card (which are double sided to cover male & female). The plastic is a little soft so some of them don't have flat bases, but they all stand up. Not an issue since the tokens are used so little during actual gameplay, but a little sloppy in the quality department. . I particularly like the colored version of the cards over the original, which i found bland and inconsistent with the expansions that started in full color (e. G. Super munchkin, munchkin bites, etc. ). This may actually be a minus for old school munchkin players. . The box is un-necessarily big and unfortunately not deep enough or shaped to easily store the cards or pieces without them moving all ove rthe place. It would have been nice if the box was designed to hold not just the original cards securely, but also any expansions.

Foreword

What can you say, it's munckin! . Not a game for the faint of heart. The first time we played, my friend thought i was in trouble and might get a divorce over the game. See my wife helped me with a battle and they all ganged up on us. We were going to lose the battle. I played a card to let me escape and i had the choice on whether to help my partner on not. I chose to escape by myself. The whole table freaked out except my wife. We both play tough. She actually ended up winning this game. Steve jackson games munchkin deluxe Review (sjg1483)

I would have liked for the box to stand a little taller, preferably at a height that equates to 125% of the width of a munchkin card for my own personal custom organization set-up. . Cards come sealed in 2 packs, but not separated by door cards and treasure cards, some treasure cards will be packaged with the door cards to have 2 equally sized decks for packaging and fitment within the box. . Lots of extra space within the box, size of box was dictated by the board, but because of that, there is a lot of free space within the box. . A couple of the character base stands did not hold the character token pieces very well, so when picking up your character token piece to move up or down a level, the character base stand would be left behind or fall off. -D. munchkinSteve Jackson Games Munchkin Deluxe (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

My friend turned me on to this game, and we play it with 4 or 5 people every time we do it now. It is a fairly strange game, in that players work together until reaching level 19 (we play to level 20) and at that point all hell breaks loose. The purpose of the game is simple, to reach level 20. However, doing that is anything but. On your turn, you "kick down a door" which will show you something like a monster to kill or a curse that will destroy one of your equipments, loose your class card, etc. Then, when you kill a monster, you get the treasure cards that it leaves behind, which are things like equipment to make you stronger, or cards to play to either counter other player's cards, or to make things more difficult for them. The game play aspect of this game is very complicated, and is actually surprisingly difficult to teach and comprehend, however the best method is to just play the game and fumble through it for a few rounds, at which point everything will just click and you will understand how to play. It is a fun party game, but gets really out of hand rather quickly!

Click to see NoticeSteve Jackson Games Munchkin Deluxe (sjg1483)"This is a great game and a lot of fun to play. Kill a monster and get levels and loot. Loose to a mosnter and get "bad stuff" or die and have your friends loot your body. It is a simple yet complicated game. Not a lot of rules really but the mechanics of the items can be tricky. Fortunately, it says on each card what they do so you don't have to keep looking things up. I love the humor in this game. I think a key to enjoying the game is remembering that even if you think you have a play to get yourself to lvl 10, first player to lvl 10 wins, in the next fight there is probably someone with a card that will stop you. Just have fun with it and don't take anything personal if the backstabery occurs. As for this being "deluxe", i think all that gives you is a board and gender cards, yes gender matters and yes it can get changed during the game. For some added fun there are "epic munchkin" rules that can be downloaded from their website. This allows you to play to level 20 with some interesting changes in the mechanics of the game."

The F.A.Q. for steve jackson games munchkin deluxe

I just found out about munchkin's this summer and bought the game for our trip to the beach. The rules were not easy at first so we only did a few of them and each round we played we added more. This game was great the day it rained, all the kids enjoyed it. They even wanted to play the next day when the sun was out. If you don't have this in your collection i would highly recommend it. . 10 and up is a fair age requirement, though you can make the game easier by not using all of the rules. Our 8 year old niece was able to pick it up after a few rounds but it took longer than teaching the older kids.

A number of questions have been asked here.

A great game for like-minded board game nerds, it's rpg-lite fun for 3-6 players. The first time i played this game, it was fairly confusing and not easy to figure out quickly without someone of experience present. While very fun, i can't recommend it a group that doesn't have the patience or time to learn. I wouldn't even come close to rating this game as complicated, but the first play-through will take some time and you're likely to go against the rules at some point. . I highly suggest watching a match played on youtube before the group convenes to make it easier to get into. I also highly suggest to play with the original included decks before venturing into the many alternative branded decks. While it's immediately comfortable to play an rpg-lite game where you have races and classes and are venturing through a dungeon, it can be a bit confusing if you instead started learning with the "nightmare before christmas" pack and instead are fighting in dungeons with "rides" and having citizenship to towns, for example. . If you're wondering whether or not to get the deluxe version for the board, just do it. It's much easier and cleaner to be able to quickly see what level everyone is at, otherwise it could be easy to lose track and end up helping someone when you didn't realize those 2 levels they got for killing a monster just won them the game. Pay the extra $2, get the board, be happy. . Great game, very much recommended from a casual board game player such as myself. While i'm typically drawn towards co-op games, this one still scratches that itch while giving me the power to turn adversarial at any point, which is fantastic. Help each other while low level, slowly turn the knob to back-stabber when it's required to stop someone else from winning.

Best steve jackson games munchkin deluxe (sjg1483) in review

This game is so much fun. After you learn how to play it which took maybe one play through and about an hour this game is highly addicting and loads of fun. You basically get some cards and try to reach level 10 by killing monsters or getting lucky with your cards that can give bonus level ups. You can even make monsters that your friend/family is fighting more powerful and make them lose or if your feeling nice you can even help them fight the monster (for a fee of course). The steps are simple. 1. You kick down the door. 2. You fight the monster. 3. You grab the treasure. 4. You try and reach level ten. This game is for 3 to six players and can take a very little or a very long time. It really just depends on how lucky you are. I also like how you can combine it with all the other munchkin games out there to have loads of different cards, monsters, and just enhanced gameplay. Overall this game is awesome and easy to learn so i highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good game.

M. Campbell, Medway says

From the sole perspective of how much fun we have playing the game, i would give this game a 6 out of 5. My wife and i had a game night with three friends recently and it took some time to get into the game, but when we all learned the gist of it everybody was really enjoying it. . One criticism i've seen is that it relies very heavily on random chance instead of skill which is true, but that ends up getting everybody involved. I'm the one who owns the game and i understand the rules the best, but despite my best efforts i don't always win. That's not to say there is no strategy, but the opportunity to craft the perfect hand and foresee every single outcome just isn't there with this game. . The only criticism i have, and the reason i'm docking one star, is because of the sheer intricacy and number of cards at play, specifically if you have some of the expansion packs. I appreciate updated content and i'm glad the creators of the game are continually breathing fresh life into it, but it makes breaking into it a daunting task. I have never played a game that lasted shorter than one hour, and walking new players through options available to them is frustrating, for myself and for the new player. It's a lot to ask of someone to sit through an hour and a half long tutorial before they have any real idea what's going on. . All that being said however, i have played many card based party games, and this one is my favorite hands down. Giving it 5 stars would be misleading to possible future purchases, but if you enjoy party card games and have some friends that are patient and like learning new games, buy munchkin. The potential here is much greater than with any of those other games.

If you don't know anything about munchkin, it won't take reading too many reviews before you realize that people love this game. Not only does it offer a fun, deep "role playing" experience, it also skewers the entire experience by turning the conventions on their collective heads. To be clear: munchkin is a great game. This set, however, leaves something to be desired, in my opinion. . The cards are identical to the first set of munchkin cards, so the big draw for this set is the board and the pawns used to play the game. The board is pretty standard board game quality, featuring heavy card stock coated on the back with a textured leathery surface. Not fancy, but certainly not sub-par. . The included pawns come in 5 colors, with 2 genders for each color, and this is where the wheels fall off the bus. The pawns are tablet shaped cardboard cut-outs with plastic bases. I expected this based on the images provided, but i also expected the cutouts to actually stay in the bases. They don't. As a matter of fact, the bases fit the cutouts so loosely that you have to "slide" the pieces on the board rather than picking them up, because if you pick them up, the base will definitely fall off. It's not a dealbreaker, certainly, but compared to the overall quality of the rest of the game, it seems like a cheap alternative. I would have much rather paid an additional $10 for the game and gotten the same pawns found in the "+6 bag of munchkin legends" pieces, rather than having to purchase them separately. . Would i recommend this set to new munchkin players? absolutely. Will i start trying to wean my little gaming group off of the board and pawns setup in favor of just using counters to track levels? yes. Yes i will. If you do decide to buy this set, you will get an enjoyable game packed with silliness and fun, wrapped in a package that is (mostly) worth the money.

S. Ruff, Salford says

My friend showed us this game about a year ago when she brought her own deck over. She sat us down and showed us how to play, and we used dice to keep track of our level. When we decided to get this game for ourselves, i am very happy we decided to get the deluxe version. Here's why. . The board/pieces:. Yes! the board is an easy and visual way of seeing where you rank as far as level as opposed to everyone else who is playing. The graphics on it are cute and match very well with the cards. Though the pieces are the same piece in different colors, it's better than a 20 sided die. . Player cards:. There are cards included for each colored piece, this is handy for remembering who is who on the board, and also, if you get switched to the opposite sex, you can just turn your card over, and nobody has to remember that your now the opposite gender. . Cards:. It comes with the starter set of cards, and everything you need to play. The cards are of decent quality, and the graphics are cute! . . Gameplay:. The game itself can be complicated to someone who is new to it, but usually we find that they catch on by the end of the first game. The boards/pieces add that visual and makes it a little less confusing. Every person we have introduced to munchkin has loved it and has wanted to play again. The replay value is endless since there are so many cards, and so many possibilities for monsters and gear. Not to mention there are a ton of expansions that are out for it. We've only bought one so far, but we may get more soon!

This is a lot of fun, but there is a definite learning curve and the directions are really inadequate. If you are interested in learning, watch some games on youtube before you play and take notes. . It is a really tough game to play for the first time as people will get frustrated and bored with learning the rules; however, if you can push through it the game really opens up. It's a neat little "build your own adventure" board game. Whomever came up with it deserves some serious credit. . We also got some expansion packs, and i'm glad we did, as it only takes a few times through the regular pack to realize that variety is the spice of life for this game. The more cards you have, the more ways the game can turn out.

N. Rowe, Northwest Territries says

I'm giving this game 5-stars with a large caveat - it is not the easiest to learn, imo. I consider myself a pretty smart person, but it took me a solid hour or so of reading and rereading the instructions to get the basics down. Having done that, i'm still not 100% certain i fully get it. However, i can still see that the game can and will be a lot of fun. We played a round of it with 4 kids (ranging 9 to 12) and my wife. I was the instructions handler going in between all the players. We had a good time and the pace of the game picked up a lot as we got the hang of it. The devil is in the details on this game, and i'm sure there's still more i need to learn. . If you buy the game, try to pay close attention to how the instructions talk about "cards in your hand" versus the ones you lay out in front of you (like race, class, etc. ). If you can figure that one out right away, you should be good to go.

E. Colleen, Hammersmith and Fulham

This game is a lot of fun. The deluxe version is a little nicer then the standard version. You get a board, die, female and male cardboard thingies (playing pieces). It's easier to track your progress with this. I do wish they made the plastic playing pieces available to purchase, but i cannot find any. The basic rules are clear, but when you first start out the rules on the cards may have you scratching your head. However, find the solutions is great fun and there is plenty of help at the web site. This game brought game night back to the family and off surfing the web or playing video games. What a wonderful way to interact with family. Buy, purchase, and kill monsters, steal treasure and stab your buddy.

A. Theresa, Rhone-Alpes says

I have been looking for games for our family of 6 people to all play together. I wanted something fun for all our ages, with the goal being to spend more time together instead of vegging out with no interaction in front of the tv. I read about munchkin years ago and kept putting off buying it, now i wish i had just bought it a long time ago. This is a very fun, very easy game to play and is enjoyable for everyone in our family, from ages 9-65 (youngest up to grandma! ). We all love it and have played it everyday since the day it arrived. Now we are all looking forward to adding some of the themed expansion decks. . If you are looking for a good family game way more fun than monopoly, risk and all the other usual crap , with a quirky/geeky side of humor thrown in, this is a game worth checking out. . *update* after playing this game for several weeks since buying it, i had to revise this review to help get the word out. This game is a lot more fun than any other board or card game i've ever played. I have now bought almost every expansion and the fun literally never ends. Munchkin (& it's expansions) is a wonderful family fun game for sitting around the table for either a quick 40min round or an epic 2hour match. It is also a blast as a party game. Get this base game of munchkin and a few choice expansions & invite some friends over for a very very fun party night. The more cards you have the more people can play, we've had up to 8 so far with no problems. It's a fast paced game, so a game round with 6 people usually takes 1 hour, if you don't let people take too much time on their turns. . . I highly recommend buying the base game and the following expansions in this suggested order, for the absolute most enjoyment - and you are going to want some (or all) of these expansion packs. The fun, hilarity & wackiness are too much to miss. Hopefully someone will find this information helpful. It's a very long list, but i wanted to be comprehensive for anyone trying to figure this stuff out. I sure could have used this info when i was looking at all the extra packs to figure out what to buy when. You can feel free to combine any munchkin pack with either the base game or any full expansion and play it all together just fine. This is just a recommendation based on my experience playing all of these:. . *a note on full expansions vs small card packs - full themed expansions are just like the munchkin 1 base game & have enough cards that they can be played alone without adding any other packs. Or you can of course mix them together with any other packs for some fun combinations (for ex: you could mix munchkin & zombies, or make a super/zombie pack, or pirate/bites, etc). Full themed expansions have a lot of cards (168ish), come in a larger box & cost $20. There are a few vitally *awesome* booster packs that have 112 cards & cost $5-15 (all listed out below). Most normal small booster card packs for any theme usually have 15 cards & cost $5-15. Almost everything i have came with free shipping from online store. I've listed the newest/latest version of everything, so when you buy look for any "revised" edition like i link to below. . . . * munchkin deluxe (the dlx version is just the base card game & comes with pawns & a level counter board to help you keep count. None of these extras are vital, it's just very helpful to have. If you don't have the board, just use a pen & paper to keep up w everyone's levels - players levels will change often). . Each of these booster packs listed below adds something unique, interesting & fun to the base game. There are a lot more booster packs, i will list them later. These here are the ones i consider *essential* to having the most fun with the base game. These all add something significant & amazing to the base game without changing it in any severe way. So i call them "vanilla" addon packs. Buy them, play them with the deluxe version, love them. Seriously, now. ; p. . * munchkin 2: unnatural axe revised edition (112 cards). * munchkin 3: clerical errors (112 cards). * munchkin 4: the need for steed (revised edition) (112 cards). * munchkin 5: de-ranged (112 cards). * (skip 6 & 7, they are both mentioned below). * munchkin 8: half horse, will travel (112 cards). . Those are all of the 112 card packs, and they are all excellent! most of the other packs are 15 card booster packs that don't add anything new, exciting or special. Except this one:. . * munchkin easter eggs (15 cards) - this is really a *great* booster pack. The art & humor are all top notch, as you will come to expect w most things munchkin. Fight bunnythulu. Become even more overpowered (that's a good thing). Adds fun monsters, modifiers & treasures. Who doesn't love treasure? . . Once you get all of the above packs, mix them all in together with the base game pack and play it as your regular vanilla munchkin deck. It will be a lot of cards. You will want them all. . After all those are added to the basic munchkin game you have some choices. You can buy & mix several other packs (all listed below) into your main deck which will do fun & strange things to the basic game, or you can do what i did & keep a "pure" munchkin deck w it's own mostly vanilla expansion packs (it's a massive amount of cards without any other themes mixed in - no vampires, space, zombies, cowboys etc, just regular ole plain vanilla munchkin-themed cards). . . *full themed game packs*. I sometimes mix some of the other themed decks & smaller packs into a separate blended munchkin experience that i keep apart from my regular vanilla deck mix listed above. However, most of the themed expansion packs are so complete & so much fun by themselves that i leave them alone, for ex: we usually don't mix zombies & vampires. But you could. And it would be awesome. . The themed sets all have their own themed expansions & sequels. The cthulu set alone has 5 booster packs + the main game set. Thats a lot of cards, and it plays perfectly well on its own. But every now and then you really should get crazy and mix some of these together to play something like zombie-vampire munchkin, with some of the really good vanilla packs added in (the ones listed above). Or go all wild and buy them all & mix them all in together. Insane, i know. . So you could end up with say, a super mixed pack of super vampire zombie cthulu space munchkin, with steeds & rangers. I have got to try that. . * star munchkin revised edition, star munchkin 2 (revised) &space ships star munchkin expansion - very fun geeky set. This is actually our favorite of all of the themes. Lots of doctor who/star wars/star trek & other geeky scifi references, great humor. Love it. . * munchkin zombies, munchkin zombies 2 armed and dangerous, munchkin zombies 3 hideous hideouts (dungeons), munchkin zombies meat lockers - this is a set of 2 boxes to hold all your zombie cards. Also comes with 2 unique cards you can't get anywhere else. Also, there is now a munchkin zombies 3 which is not available here yet but is for sale at munchkinworld-dot-com. . * munchkin bites! (revised), munchkin bites 2 pants macabre. . * munchkin cthulhu (168 cards/$18), munchkin cthulhu 2 call of cowthulhu (56 cards), munchkin cthulhu 3 unspeakable vault (rev. ), munchkin cthulhu 4 crazed caverns (dungeon cards) & munchkin cthulhu crypts of concealment -this is 2 boxes to hold all of your munchkin cthulhu themed cards. This also comes with 2 unique cards you can't get anywhere else. So it's fun as well as extremely useful. The cthulhu themed set has enough cards that you are going to need these to hold them all. . * the good, the bad and the munchkin / the good, the bad and the munchkin 2 - beating a dead horse - buy these 2 together. . * munchkin booty (revised), munchkin booty 2 jump the shark (revised edition), munchkin booty fish & ships booster pack (15 cards) - buy these 3 all together to make a booty set. The 3 packs all work very well together (of course you can always mix these up w other sets). . * super munchkin (revised), super munchkin 2 (revised) - superhero themed. Good stuff. . * munchkinfu (revised), & munchkinfu2 monkey business - humorous theme inspired by all those old black&white martial arts movies you watched & loved as a kid. No clue what those are? oh my, you did lead a sheltered life. Let's fix that now shall we? go now, young grasshoper. Play this game while watching steve odekerk's parody movie "kung pow enter the fist". Then & only then will you have achieved mastery of the ancient lost art of monkey-fu. . * munchkin apocalypse (168 cards) - take every disaster movie you've ever seen and make it a munchkin themed expansion. Bam. Fun & funny, just as good as all the other great themed expansions. This one adds a new card type, appropriately called seals (watch out for that 7th one, lol). Seals do change the gameplay a bit, and they do work with every other game-changing addition, including dungeons, necronomicon, etc, though mixing all those types could cause mild confusion (warning: if confusion occurs, accompanied by gastric distress, small bladder, irritable bowel or voices in your head, call a doctor). This is actually a fun addition to mix in with any other themed set imo, but your mileage may vary. . . . *munchkin christmas collection*. There are enough of the christmas booster cards that i wanted to make a special standalone holiday set. To do this i needed to add the small xmas booster packs to a main themed set, bc at this time there is no standalone christmas themed full set. This is not a problem bc you can add them in with any regular full themed set, or even your regular vanilla deck if you like. . I chose to mix munchkin impossible with the christmas theme booster packs. Crazy fun, & funny! this makes a special treat to play every year that we all look forward to. The santa packs are all especially funny. There are several packs out now & it seems they release a new small xmas booster pack each year. So far there is:. * munchkin: santa's revenge (15 more cards! ). * munchkin reindeer games booster. * munchkin waiting for santa - *note* - munchkin waiting for santa is available here for $20, but it sells for only $5 at the official munchkin store page . . This is the only one i've found that is cheaper there, everything else is cheaper here at online store, plus you get the free saver s&h here. * munchkin: naughty & nice booster pack (15 cards). . . *new update* munchkin holiday surprise! (released in 2013). Description: "it's an amazing present for all the good little munchkins. 68 holiday themed cards, everything from the first three christmas boosters plus the 2012 booster, some promo cards never before available at retail, plus four new cards. Also includes a new "christmas kill o meter" unique to this set, two special munchkin dice - one pearly red, one pearly green, and a printed rulesheet. All in a 6in x 9in box. ". . Buy this set instead of the 4 listed above. This "holiday surprise! " set has all of the cards from the 4 sets listed above, as well as adding some new cards and cool unique items. This should still be added to & played with a main themed set as it is still not a standalone full set. Technically there are enough cards for 2 people to play a regular game using only the xmas cards, but it plays much better & is much more fun when you add these to a full themed set. . Also, it is cheaper to buy this set of 68 cards than it would be to buy each of the previous 4, even if you could get the other packs, since some are out of print now. So you save $ plus you get some new cool stuff thrown in. At $16 this set is a *very* good deal. In fact, i am buying it even though i already have the other 4 sets, just for the new cards & other extras. . . *misc booster packs*. All of the decks in the the next list (themed or otherwise) can all be added to plain vanilla or any other main theme (like zombies) & mixed together into one huge fun mess. Mix & match into different combinations. The options for this game are limitless. Go nuts. . * penny arcade - this is pa+munchkin in a 15 card pack, how could you not love it? if you are a fan of gabe & tycho, these are must have. Even if you don't know who pa is, these are good munchkin cards that will play well with everything else. I put these cards into the ever growing christmas deck for extra hilarity. And honestly, my main vanilla munchkin deck has enough cards at this point ; p this is a great bonus pack, get it. . * the guild 15 card booster pack - if you are a fan of felicia day's "the guild", you will want this. If you've never heard of the guild, these are still good cards to add in to anything. . * munchkinomicon booster pack - a fun little pack that plays very well when added in with any main themes. Very easy to use, has it's own fun rules printed on the back of the main card, which you mix into play. The other cards sit on the side waiting to be played separately, which happens once a player finds the main necronomicon card. *this pack works best with a smaller deck so you can find the necronomicon card faster, which is the whole point of this pack. * i sometimes put it in with christmas or in with a single themed pack like mission impossible. . * munchkin 6 demented dungeons - i like this mixed in other themed decks more than in regular munchkin decks. It is fun but. Different. Most people in our group usually prefer not to use dungeons. Dungeons add new rules for a few new over-sized cards that can overly complicate games. We just pop them out to play occasionally for variety. . * munchkin 7 cheat with both hands - this pack was literally made for the purpose of mixing themed decks. Fyi, don't be confused. This pack replaces 2 old packs that are no longer in print, but that can still be bought here. "7 - cheat w both hands" replaces "7 - more good cards" & the old "munchkin blender" pack. You don't want the old packs, just this new one. . * munchkin reloaded (15 cards) - this is a re-release of some previous 15card pack they no longer sell. Just a few more fun cards to add more craziness to the mix. Like most of the vanilla 15 card booster packs, they are best used when mixing multiple themes together in my opinion. . * munchkin marked for death - mediocre pack of 17 mediocre cards. Just mix 'em in with most of the other 15 card packs. . * munchkin monster enhancers - *i think this pack was discontinued, as it has not been in stock on online store for a long time. * this one is great for adding to vanilla munchkin or mixing into your blended multi-themed decks. Works great for both! (these are cheap, just buy 2). . * munchkin dragons booster - nothing special here, just more regular cards, which is normal for these small 15 card booster sets. It is 15 cards total, mostly monsters. Dragons of course. 3 treasure cards, & 1 nearly useless hireling who is only good at helping you fight. Dragons. Still, if you collect all the sets, you will probably want this. The cards are good cards overall. It's just this small pack is not very exciting, & certainly not vital for play like any of the 112 card packs i mentioned at the very top are (the ones i listed w the base game). . I mixed the following all together with 6, 7 reloaded & marked (using 2nd packs of each, since i would never find the cards from each pack once they are blended into my main deck). I plan to add munchkin the guild, & munchkin conan the barbarian -a small pack, & munchkin conan - for some reason the amz search never finds this one, my guess is it gets confused about these being 2 different items. (this one is a full themed expansion, it's is b00857s1wy). . * munchkin level playing field game - this is really only for people who bought the regular base card game but not the deluxe version. This is just a gameboard, some small player tokens & 4 new cards. It's only worth $5. But it costs $20. Save yourself some trouble, just buy the deluxe edition in the first place. The dlx version has a much bigger board & much nicer player tokens. This board is tiny. Or buy this if you are truly ridiculously obsessive about owning every munchkin card ever made. What? don't look at me like that. . * avoid this pack: munchkin fairy dust - it's the only "bad" official pack. Considering every other official pack & expansion (so far) is pure awesome, guess there had to be one that just doesn't work. If you really have to have it, just mix it in with a ton of other packs & hope for the best. The cards in this pack essentially break the game, so i really suggest you avoid it completely. This small pack is just not worth the trouble. . * also to avoid: munchkin axe cop, which is designed as a full standalone game, but which you can mix with other munchkin themes decks or cards. This particular game is bad, really really horribly bad. Even the people in our family & gaming group who like the axe cop comic hated this as a munchkin game. I don't mean mildly did not like it, i mean, "this is truly terrible, why did they make this, i would rather stick a fork in my eye than play munchkin axe cop". It was just that kind of bad. . . . *special notes*. . . * munchkin quest *. This is a completely different game. "munchkin quest" is not part of the munchkin card game described in this review. It is a fun game of a completely different type. Don't get confused when you see it. . * card shuffler *. You are going to want a manual card shuffler like manual card shuffler. Trust me on this one. The auto shufflers can bend your cards & they jam a lot. A manual shuffler won't have that problem. And you will need a shuffler once you add these extra packs. Munchkin cards are smaller than regular playing cards, but these shufflers do work on them. . * unique gameplay items *. There are several fun items you can only get at the official munchkin store page (warehouse23-dot-com - i suggest you check there every few months to see what's new & unique), such as an exclusive card booster pack they release every year that has cards you can not get anywhere else. There are also promo pens, coins t-shirts & other items, all of which actually have their own rules for using them in the actual game! it gets really crazy. Plus, you are encouraged to make up your own "house rules" for how you & your friends & family like to play. . This quote comes from another reviewer of the need for steed expansion, "munchkin is a great game to play with close friends, so long as you all understand that the purpose of the game is to torment one another endlessly. ". . That really sums it up nicely. Enjoy!

We are a simple family just trying to raise up the next generation competitive gaming nerds. We bought this as a sort of transition from the catan-type games, into the more difficult card/strategy games for our 10 and 11 year olds to try. First off, the cards are hilarious. I think it's kind of up to the parent on whether or not your kids are old enough to read some of them (for example there's a "bad-ass" something or another on one of the cards), but if you're ok with your kids reading that sort of thing, this is a very fun game. Second, the instructions don't lie. We've played three different times with 4 players, and even accounting for us being new to the game and trying to figure out the rules as we go, i doubt you could "win" this game in under an hour. It's definitely involved, and requires constant reading of cards, formulating strategy, and basic math. Third, i think this game has a lot of awesome potential, but the initial learning-curve is a little steep. There's lots of flipping back to the instructions and trying to figure out what's allowed and what's not. The good thing is that even in the instructions, the creators hint on not taking anything too seriously, so it's kind of ok to just decide what everyone in the group agrees on and do that. I've also already had to google whether or not something was allowed, and i'm happy to report to anyone worried that there are entire forums dedicated to people figuring out how to play this game. I really like that there are different card packs to expand the game once you get the hang of it, which turns it into a newer and more fun game. My 4 year old is obviously too young to understand/read/do basic math, so he's bored to tears when the rest of us play this. So just throwing that out there for any families with younger kids. They're going to see you laughing and yelling and undercutting each other and will want to play, and they will immediately complicate anything you planned by loudly asking you what the card that has this picture on it means. So plan accordingly. I haven't tried playing with just adults, but i'm sure that would increase the fun by at least 8%.

My kids bought this game. At first, i thought that it would be a boring game, but it is really fun. We played hours on end-and had great fun. It is a strategy game wherein you have to 'conquer' the other players. It is similar to risk in the sense that you get more armies for having more territory, but it is far more thinking because you have to decide when your current army of minions is at the end of their expansion strength. You then have to re-build with new armies and new characters. It is a nice twist on the typical board game theme. My kids are aged 11-17 and they all understood the rules easily. But the older ones enjoyed the intrigue as much as their younger sibs.

I had always heard about this game but never actually played. It seems we are always in gatherings of about 6 prople, and the games we had either required more or less - so this was perfect! . Upon first reading the directions it seemed confusing, but like most games once you just dive in it all smooths out and makes sense. We have played several times now and have not been disappointed. I will say a few of the card titles and or descriptions are a bit adult in nature. The game is rated for 10 and up, so depending on your comfort level you can just remove these cards from the game with no major impact (such as the bad as bandana, and knee pads of alure). Also, just depending on the child the game play might be a little complicated or confusing to understand. We had a 9 year old sit in and they were completely lost. . Easy set up, pretty straight forward playing. Provides twists and turns that can change the game flow at any moment. (at one point we had 3 people competeting to win and they each got sent back to the begining to start again). . Came well packaged and undamaged. Shipped quickly and arrive quickly. Pleased with my purchase experience and my experience with this game. It's been a crowd pleaser every where we've went!

This game is definitely challenging especially trying to understand the rules at times. Every once in a while you might have a few things pop up and not sure what to do. But great game. . Example * my first time my family and i were playing the first game. I pulled 2 different race cards and was not sure how to play. (no they were not the halfling or the super munchkin) apparently the first one played is your race when you play the other it removes the old one. Only time is when you have a halfling or super munchkin.

My kids age 8-11 love this game in theory, and we all like the clever premise and cards. The rules are a little complicated, and after playing several times we still weren't sure we'd learned them correctly. There's a lot to keep track of- your hand, your cards in play, your equipped items. There's also ambiguity in some places, which is intentional, but this can be challenging when playing with kids and can lead to frustration. Still, they ask to play again and again, so i'd call it a winner.
