Seafall: A Legacy Game (Z Man Games) 3634

Review for seafall: a legacy

Price was $43.00. Prior to this purchase, my board game experience was very low, consisting of the likes of monopoly, risk, sorry etc. My experience with legacy games was zilch, but i was drawn in by all the hype. I also live with 3 brothers who are all video gamers and would easily be convinced to go on this adventure with me. Before we started the game, none of us had high expectations (so many bad reviews. ) but i was still excited. . We've been averaging a game a week. 2 of us are really looking forward to the next game, one wants to get the next game but is in no rush, and the last hates the game and feels like every game is a chore. . The legacy aspect that brought me in is still keeping me heavily interested. Knowing there are still things in the game that will be new to our group with the next couple of plays is exciting for me. The story isn't wonderful, but it's the twists that i enjoy experiencing (or seeing my competition agonize over). . I will say the 3 of us that feel positive about the game tend to be more analytical, and enjoy studying all the details of games, trying to min/max as best as we know how. The fourth is more of the "eh" type of player, and is easily satisfied with no progress, while getting bored when things start to get a little complicated. . Would i recommend this to someone? honestly, that depend on the gamer. It's definitely not for everyone, especially if you tend to be a more casual/laid-back gamer. Each game is 1. 5+ hrs and you need a consistent group of players. But the legacy aspect still hasn't worn off for me and keeps me engaged as opposed to sorry, where i draw a card and mentally check out after my first turn. . Since starting seafall, our board game collection has expanded to include:. Scythe. Cry havoc. Kemet. Settlers of catan. Descent 2e the long road and shadows of nerekhall. Pandemic legacy (we'll be starting this when we finish seafall)

Great game so far. Got my copy a week ago but we couldn't start until last night. After 1 game we achieved 2 minor upgrades and unlocked the first "new mechanics" box of new stuff, which is really making all of us look forward to it a bunch for next game. . I know the reviews are that it starts off a bit slow, but all 4 of us enjoyed the base game as it stands: naming everything, discovering things, etc. It would be fun to play just the first game over and over again if it wasn't a legacy one. But the new mechanics are going to completely change the strategy for the next match, and while the guy who won is going to still have a slight advantage, the rest of us are definitely going to have an easier time closing the gap than if the new rules hadn't come into play. . That's about as specific as i can get without giving spoilers here (there are a few spoiler youtube videos if you want to see them). So far i would definitely give this game a 10/10. But do not expect to walk into the game expecting a "super awesome pirate game", this game is about colonialism and exploring and things that just "tend to happen" while doing that, with a choose your own adventure side to it. I'd very much compare it to the video game "the curious expedition" for the first (few? ) games, than i would to a pirate battle game. But you know, lots of content and new rules to unlock ; ) The Best seafall: a legacy as-of ( Jun 2021 ) | Flat River Group-Toys And Games Review Items SeaFall: A Legacy Game For 3-5 players. 90-120 minute playing time. Seafall: A Legacy Game Review (zmg phg13000)

Played about 12 games so far with a group of 4, opened all but last box. Overall i like this game, but i wouldn't call it great. Not sure if the balance is quite right between the different strategies, but that could also just be our group. Feels very long if you are doing poorly. Lots of rules and complexity, not for anyone who suffers from decision paralysis. On the other hand it is very fun to explore and discover new things and open new boxes! we tried to avoid using up the game by using tape and post-it notes to mark upgrades rather than pen or the provided stickers, in hindsight i wouldn't do this; treat this as a one-play game and it'll be much simpler. To summarize, i'd get this if you have a good group to play with and want to try something new. -F. Alice

seafall: a legacy Toy, Seafall is a 4x game (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) set in an "age of sail" world reminiscent of our world. in seafall, the world is starting to claw its way out of a dark age and has begun to rediscover seafaring technology. players take on the role of a mainland empire that consults with a consortium of advisors to discover new islands, explore those islands, develop trade, send out raiding parties, take part in ship-to-ship combat, and more. seafall evolves as the game is played, setting their grudges into the history of the game and building a different narrative at every table as players open up the world. Every year we buy a new game, or at least an addition to a previous game for our family. We have 4 different catan games, 3 different ticket to ride games, dread pirate, cash flow, etc. Etc. This year i wanted to do something different, and sea fall has filled the bill. I am estimating it will take us a full year to play this game. I have 2 kids in college and 1 in high school. We will be able to play about 3-4 times every 2 months. The depth and strategy in the game has been remarkable. Huge hats off to the creator of this game. Each of us seems to have our own strategy in the game to gain glory (points), but as the game has gone on, those with early victories are losing their lead. At the end of each game, and especially when a new part of the game is revealed and "opened up, " it builds excitement to get back together again next time. I won't go into the details because i don't want to reveal any spoilers, but this is the perfect answer for those who love catan, ticket to ride, risk, and other strategy games. This game will take it all to the next level. And. Here at online store. You can't beat the price.

Scythe Board Game

It is a time of unrest in 1920s europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as "the factory, " which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries. Scythe is a board game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In scythe, each player represents a fallen leader attempting to restore their honor and lead their faction to power in eastern europa. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mech.

Pandemic Legacy Red Board Game

Pandemic is one of my family's favorite games, so when pandemic: legacy was announced in 2014 it immediately went to the top of my wishlist. Let's get the conclusion out of the way first: if you like pandemic, you will almost certainly love pandemic: legacy (with one caveat - see below). As of this writing, it's the second-highest ranked game on boardgamegeek. . If you're not familiar with pandemic, what you need to know is that it's a cooperative game - all players win or lose as a group. You take on the roles of various scientists working for the cdc, traveling around the world and dealing with epidemics. There are four diseases spreading through the world, and you must discover cures to all of them before it's too late. . Pandemic: legacy takes the base pandemic game and turns it into a campaign, where each game affects all the ones after it. Ignoring outbreaks if you're close to winning is no longer a smart move, because those outbreaks will make your life more difficult in the following months. The game takes place over the course of a (game) year: you play a game in january, and if you win, your next game will be february; if you lose, you play a second game in january (and then go to february regardless of the outcome). In this way, a full campaign will take between 12 and 24 games depending on how well you do. The legacy deck controls various events that come up; you simply draw cards from it until you reach a stop sign, which will tell you when to start drawing again (the first one says to draw it before playing your first game). At the start of play, the game is essentially the same as regular pandemic, but the cards will let you open envelopes and boxes with additional components, rules, and stickers. . Wait. Rules and stickers? yes, many things that happen during the game will require altering the board and rulebook by placing stickers. You'll write on cards. If things go badly, you'll tear up cards. I don't want to put spoilers in the review, so i won't tell you about what's coming up, but there have been more than a few cards that made me go "oh *" when i read them. Your decisions absolutely matter - not only will screwing up make future games harder, but making a good play can make future games a lot easier. You should have seen what our super-powered medic did in a recent game. . There's a story woven through the campaign, that explains everything that's going on (it doesn't just get more complicated for no reason - it gets more complicated for very good reasons). If you like theme in your games, they're really pouring it on. Not many games from the last few years have excited me, but pandemic: legacy does; it gives me the same feeling as the trauma center wii games did, where you're involved in a suspenseful story. . The one thing that seems to turn some people off is that this is a one-time-play game. You're putting stickers on the board. You're ripping up cards. At the end, you'll have a copy of pandemic which is unique to you alone. I've actually purchased two copies of the game because i expect i'll want to play it more than once - the two boxes differ only in the box design, and have the same contents (but red is clearly better ; -)). However, someone on boardgamegeek has uploaded a set of sticker files that will allow you to do a full reset if you so choose - just don't rip anything up and you can play through the whole campaign as many times as you like. But the designer has confirmed that he's already working on season 2.

The world is on the brink of disaster. In pandemic legacy, your disease-fighting team must keep four deadly diseases at bay for a whole year. Each month will bring new surprises, and your actions in each game will have repercussions on the next. Will you let cities fall to the diseases? will your team be enough to keep the viruses at bay for a whole year? craft your own unique pandemic experience with pandemic legacy.

Pandemic Legacy Red Board Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

Up front, i have played the original pandemic so our group was fairly accustomed to the base rules. If you played the original pandemic, especially if you have a regular gaming group (2-4), i would highly encourage you to consider this. . If you haven't played the original pandemic, i would still suggest it, though there will be a learning curve that hopefully the mechanics curve to your benefit later. Possibly play it to cure the four diseases a few times (base game), escalating the number of infection cards in the player deck to get the idea. Then when ready, accept the "training" is over and see what happens. . There are minor spoilers below. . I bought this for friends, and we've played through the first two of twelve "months". The first month is more or less like the original game. We struggled a bit with a few different elements of the design:. 1) destruction of components - this is a thing. This is not a board game designed around infinite replayability. It's designed around giving you a great gaming experience. Getting over this was hard. 2) when to open the rule options - we thought based on what we read in the rule book that occurred after the first game, rather than being patient and accepting this occurs when told to. This seemed less than clear. 3) *read* the entire text. We missed the bottom half of the first card that said "stop" and there was a word "until". Had to do some finagling to rewind and get us back on track. . So struggles aside, this has been a great experience. Every decision in regular pandemic can mean the difference between winning and losing. In legacy season 1, every decision has that little bit of extra weight where, it might not just hurt the current game, but it might hurt later games. When having to make the decision of "do we rush to save the city already in turmoil, or do we accept them as a casualty to try and eradicate a disease". It's awesome. When new rules show up, or old rules evolve? it changes how you look at the board. I would like to think we're doing great with only minor turmoil on the board, but going into month 3 we have zero funding because "obviously we have things under control" - -. . Can't wait. -Notice from W. Cageen, Missouri

This game is a game that has revolutionized board gaming for me. . First, let me say that every description of the game i heard left me not understanding why i would want to purchase it. Let me just say, if you like pandemic, purchase this. . The best description i have heard (that best approximates the experience) is that playing pandemic legacy is like watching a season of a television show. By this i mean that as you play the game, the decisions made in the last game will effect all games going forward. Now you can not rewind the season, and it will continue on, so good luck! . . We are currently playing two copies of this game (thus have purchased it twice) as we wanted to play the game with another set of friends. . My one suggestion would be to have more then one player read the rule book as misunderstanding of rule nuance (or legacy deck card nuance) can lead to the game becoming too hard (or easy)

- P. WilsonAfter playing this game, i now understand why boardgame geeks votes this the top game of all time. Pandemic is fun: not my favorite, but a very solid coop. Pandemic legacy is a blast! the way the game develops and changes over time, based on my team's actions, is fantastic. Literally no two games are ever alike. We're 4 months into our 12 month campaign and having a great time. I highly recommend!

Wow! my kids got this for me christmas 2015, and we have been playing it this year as defined in the rules. Oh yes, 'the rules', they are intricate and i am only able to keep up with every detail because this is a cooperative game. So far we have won 7 out of 10 playing sessions and succeeded to meet our objectives all but one month. (the faded figures caught us off guard and has proved to be our biggest challenge since 'invading' the yellow region. ). Enough about our problems. This is a bit of advice to you: learn how to play pandemic (we also expanded our original game set with on the brink and in the lab) before even thinking about legacy. And play the game with a team you can work with. Read the rules closely and read them again before each playing session. Make sure everyone remembers the details about their character and their relationship with others. Believe me when i say that every detail will have an influence on whether you win or lose. Yes, some details will hurt you, but more often than not you will find yourself in dire straits if you ignore, forget or simply overlook a minute instruction that was intended to help. Do we recommend this game? highly! are you capable of winning? that depends on you and the draw of the cards. Draw two epidemic cards back to back and it will test your mettle to its limits. Run or you will be scarred for life. Utilize your capabilities or your team will suffer. Don't think for a moment that you have things under control. Outbreaks will be your ruination if you don't plan for every contingency. May i remind you, this is pandemic at its worst or should i say its best. ? . . Adding my end of year note: we finished the game and saved the world for future generations. Based on the scoring tiers at the end of the game we finished just shy of the top level. This was a family night for the entire year 2016 and it was a challenge, but every episode enjoyable. Still a five star game for our group!

Star Wars: Rebellion Board Game

If you're really into organizing board game pieces and get a kick out of punching out hundreds of cardboard tokens, you will adore this game the second you open it. Luckily, we are exactly those people and it was like a present within a present. My fiancé spent christmas morning carefully categorizing and setting up all of the pieces in this game. We haven't even had a chance to play it yet, but it sure is beautiful, and it's one of the highest ranked board games on a certain board game review site, so we are really excited to get it set up. My first impressions are that extreme attention to detail went into this game, and i'm really excited about the asymmetric gameplay of empire v. Rebellion, and that you can play it many different ways depending on how many people you have. On the downside, it made my fiancé get really interested in starting miniature painting because the little death stars in this game are so cool, and now i might lose him to a new engrossing hobby. If you like star wars and are into really intricate detail in your games, this will hit all of the right notes for you.

"star wars: rebellion is a board game of epic conflict between the galactic empire and rebel alliance for two to four players! experience the galactic civil war like never before. In rebellion, you control the entire galactic empire or the fledgling rebel alliance. You must command starships, account for troop movements, and rally systems to your cause. Featuring more than 150 plastic miniatures and two game boards that account for thirty-two of the star wars galaxy's most notable systems, rebellion features a scope that is as large and sweeping as any star wars game before it. Yet for all its grandiosity, rebellion remains intensely personal, cinematic, and heroic. As much as your success depends upon the strength of your starships, vehicles, and troops, it depends upon the individual efforts of such notable characters as leia organa, mon mothma, grand moff tarkin, and emperor palpatine. As civil war spreads throughout the galaxy, these leaders are invaluable to your efforts, and the secret missions they attempt will evoke many of the most inspiring moments from the classic trilogy. You might send luke skywalker to receive jedi training on dagobah or have darth vader spring a trap that freezes han solo in carbonite! contents include: 1 game board (split in 2 halves), 170 plastic miniatures, 25 leaders (with stands), 10 custom dice, over 170 cards, 1 learn to play booklet, 1 rules reference".

Star Wars: Rebellion Board Game (SW03) FAQ.

Probably the best star wars board game out there. Best played with 2 players, but it can be played with 4 though. In a 4-player game, the players are in 2 teams and split responsibilities. . Includes tons of miniatures. I recommend getting a storage case for all of them. I bought the "plano 1354 4-by rack system 3500 size tackle box" for $16 on online store. It fits all of the miniatures, cards, dice, and pieces pretty well. The only things that wouldn't fit in it were the game board and rule books. . The first few games will take a really long time to play while players get used to the rules, which seem complicated at first, but weren't really that bad once we go them down. Our first game took 5 hours. Once learning the rules by heart, i can see this game getting down to maybe 2 hours. . Pros:. - a lot of fun, especially for players of the original pc game of the same name or just star wars fans in general. - tons of plastic miniatures with decent weight to them for being plastic. - easy introductory game rules with guided setup to ease new players into the game. - advanced rules for people who are familiar with the basic rules and want more options. - the board is huge! 44" x 22" once laid out, then you need space around it for parts not put on the board. . Cons:. - some of the miniatures (a few out of over 100) were slightly misshapen. - some of the various decks are on mini cards. I'd prefer them on regular sized cards like the others. - takes at least two hours to play once you know the rules well. - setting up a game can take up to 10-15 minutes. -Notice from P. Aldana, New York

Fantasy flight has really been hitting home runs with their line of star wars games. I own x wing miniatures which i love. I didn't end up pulling the trigger on imperial assault or armada. As much as i love these games at times the bigger more epic games are harder to get to the table with my gaming group, since most of my friends enjoy lighter more casual games, so this is what i usually buy. This all went out the window when i saw star wars rebellion! it just looked so huge and so epic and i needed to have it! i was really hoping that it lived up to the hype and my expectations. And. Well. It did! . . The pieces and game board are beautiful, totally living up to ffg standards. I'm not one who paints miniatures, and quite honestly i don't think these miniatures need despite not being pre-painted. The board itself is broken up into two boards that go together. Each of these are roughly the size of a normal board game board, so it's huge! and the detail on the board and the different planets, then detail, on the cards, the dice are quality. I really can't say enough about the components of this game. . The game play itself is also amazing. Looking at the rule book it seems daunting like the game is going to be super complicated, but it's not! there are a lot of nuances which take a few plays and checking to rules reference book to make sure your getting everything right. But all in all for the scope of this game, very easy to learn and teach. The only thing i was worried about was the balance of the game. My friend and i played 3 times in the first week i got the game swapping dark side and light side each game play. The first 3 games the imperials won every time. This may have just been a fluke or us just getting use to the game, because the last game play i won as the rebels quite decisively. We have yet to try the team version of the game so i cannot speak as to whether it is fun or not, but i'm sure it's fine, this game really is designed for 2 though. . In conclusion if your a star wars fan and like games in any way, get this game. If your not a star wars fan but love epic sci-fi games, get this game. If your looking for a great 2 player game, get this game. The only ones who shouldn't get this game are people who don't like longer games and don't care for star wars. But if this seems even remotely appealing to you, try it out. Wait scratch that. Buy or buy not, there is no try.

- G. PeggyJust a few tidbits. . -not a game for the faint of heart. This is an in depth game that requires patience to get through. Most of my games last 3-4 hours. . -very very thematic. Feels like you are a part of the star wars universe. . - game says it supports 4 players, but this is a 1v1 game at it's core. . -lots of pieces with a decent amount of setup and tear down time. . -love how this is a cat and mouse game the entire time. Feels very balanced with neither side feeling over powered. . -only thing i dislike is the dice rolling. The game is a blast until you begin to battle. Then it feels cumbersome and slow. Luckily it's just a small portion of the game.

The learning curve is steep but if you put the time into getting through a game or two, it really emulates the feel of the original trilogy. Almost all of the main characters and events from the star wars series are represented here in some way, but you never feel like you're following strict plot points. Excellent game!

Terraforming Mars Board Game

This is a beautifully designed engine building game. Fans of rftg will love it.

In the 2400s, mankind begins to terraform the planet mars. Giant corporations, sponsored by the world government on earth, initiate huge projects to raise the temperature, the oxygen level and the ocean coverage until the environment is habitable. In terraforming mars you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete in doing the best work, with victory points awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar systems and other commendable achievements. The players acquire unique project cards, which represent anything from introducing plant life or animals, hurling asteroids at the surface, building cities, and establishing greenhouse gas industries to heat up the atmosphere. You compete for the best places for your city tiles, ocean tiles and greenery tiles. When the terraforming process is complete, the player corporation with the most victory points wins.

Terraforming Mars Board Game (Stronghold Games) FAQ.

Man, what can i say about this one? . . Object is to build a corporate engine to produce oxygen, heat (to raise planet temperature) and place oceans. There is a generous amount of cards that are drawn upon to build your tableau. It is a great engine builder game. You are also competing against fellow corporations (ie: the other players). The corporation that you pick has a special ability or you can use the generic starter corporations. I would recommend skipping those beginner corps and go with some variety. . You draw cards at the beginning of your turn and decide which ones you want to keep to put into action, you have to pay for the ones you keep and the others are discarded. Cards have various requirements to put into your tableau, cost, temperature requirements, oxygen requirements, ocean requirements or certain other card requirements. Some cards you are just going to want to take even though the planet parameters don't allow you to use them (yet at least! ). . I love the theme, cards are loosely based of technologies that are close to what is possible. I love laying out tiles and seeing the planet surface literally come to life. . Component quality is top drawer. The gold, silver, and bronze cubes are awesome and feel great. They will eventually chip a little on the corners but that is the nature of the beast. . The game also plays excellently solo. I have played at least a dozen times and it is different each time with great replay value. . If you like the terraforming theme, mars, and the like, give this one a shot. Love it, love it, love it. -Notice from B. Meghan, Blackpool

Very very good game! a lot of fun and not that difficult to learn and tech to others. Give this game a try and you will most likely enjoy it.

- N. CindyI have shown it to many players and all but one loved it. The other guy is a heavy euro guy and just had a meh attitude after his play. It is a cool hard puzzle playing solo that can keep you coming back. It plays a bit longer with two players but it is very enjoyable. The best player count is 3-4 but it will play 5 with a small bit of lull between turns. Every game is different. It has so many cards to make your engine and numerous paths to victory. The one thing i can say i don't like is that it is very easy knock your player board and the box is a lesser quality then most. The issue with the player boards can be fixed with aftermarket products so not a big issue.

As others have posted, the game plays fantastically and is highly thematic. I too was a little disappointed in the build quality of the game board, but everything else seemed to be in great shape. We really liked the "metallic" cubes included with the game and have already had several fun sessions. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the pseudo science the game explores. The corporations add a huge re-playability to the game, and the terraforming objectives all players are working for make an interesting game state.

Dead of Winter: The Long Night Stand Alone Expansion Game

Pro. * video rules online. * random events. * different objectives. * good re-play. * bandits. * raxxon. * upgrades. . Cons. * special zombies. * lots of things to remember. * setup and cleanup. * raxxon. * story isn't as good as original. * not as many main objection cards. . (this will basically be the same review for dead of winter). . I pre-ordered this game directly from plaid hat games. . I hate zombies, i am not a zombie fan, in fact, i am sick of the whole zombie craze. This game is freaking awesome! . . Wow, where do i begin with this game. Things you need to do in the game:. - worry about your secret objective. - find the person that is the betrayer (if there is one). - deal with the crisis each round (bad things happen if you don't). - deal with the trash building up. - deal with the main objective. - deal with the crossroad card if it gets played. - deal with feeding all the helpless survivors. - deal with moveing and rolling the exposure die. - deal with the bandits. - deal with raxxon. - deal with the zombies. . Like i said, there is a lot in the game, and it really keeps you on your toes. . I've played with 1 and 4 player games of this, but just like the original, i think it would scale well with 1 - 5. I prefer to play with 2 and 3 players better, mainly because it seems easier, it may not be, just seemed like it. Many of the main objectives and most of the crisis cards say something to the effect of needing say food cards for every non exiled player x2. So if you have 4 players, and nobody has been exiled yet, you need 8 food cards, but you also need food to feed your people. If you only play with 2 people, then you need 4. . The exposure die sucks! every time you move unless your character says otherwise, or you use a card, you need to roll for exposure. This can be anything from nothing happens, to getting a wound (3 kills you), getting frostbite (1 wound each round), or getting bit. Getting bit kills you, if you moved to a location where there are other survivors, one of them is infected, and you can either kill them, or roll the die. If you roll the die, and get anything other than nothing, they die, and another survivor gets infected. Every time someone dies you loose a morale, if morale goes down to 0, you loose. . Some issues with this version. Raxxon, i both love it and hate it. Having to give dice away to 'seal' the special zombies from getting loose every round sucks. My group adds the audio logs that releases the zombies in with the normal search deck. Then, if you search and take the top card, and the next one is an audio log, you have to deal with it. Makes it a bit more dangerous to search there (every search you also have to roll the exposure die). . The bandits suck too. You can kill them, or be their leader if you are not the betrayer and get exiled, but they can take good things from the search piles you need. They also take up space so you can't go there, and help an area get overrun faster! least you can go to their hideout and try and get items back. . Another new good addition to the game are the upgrades you can do to your colony. You can add turrets, hunting blinds, dvd player, gardens, etc. All are very helpful, and is a very welcome addition to the game. . My biggest issue with this version is the story of the game. In the original, you had a good amount of main objectives to pick from, and then read a little story before playing. This one, much less main objectives, and only one that would take 5+ hours to play has a story to read. I personally pick from the original game's main objectives to play this version. . If you are good at keeping track of things, and can deal with the pressure, and anxiety, this is an awesome game! if you are thinking of getting this game, get dead of winter: the long night instead, it is just as good, better in some ways, but worse in others. Still a better copy to get.

Dead of winter: the long night is a standalone expansion for dead of winter: a crossroads game that introduces the raxxon location where horrible experiments will spill out into the town unless players can contain them. The game has players at a new colony location trying to survive with new survivors against brand new challenges. Can you handle being raided by members of other colonies? will you explore more and unravel the mysteries of the raxxon pharmaceutical location to find powerful items but release stronger enemies? or will you upgrade your colony to help it better withstand the undead horde? these are all choices you will get to make in this new set, and if you want, you can mix in the survivors and cards from the original set to increase the variety even more.

Dead Of Winter: Long Night Stand Alone Expansion Game (Z Man Games) FAQ.

This game is amazing. You can play it solo if you take on a few more characters and just set aside the crossroads cards. It's a load of fun with two players as well if you just set aside the betrayal cards. However when you get a stack of friends together all playing the psychology of the game really shines through in the meta as you and your fellow players discuss, argue, and deceive one another to victory. -Notice from M. Gilmore, Barnet

Dead of winter: the long night is a 2016 standalone expansion game of the dow base game released in 2014. 2-5 players for 60-120min. This game is based on a full cooperative system with integration of individual objectives to spice up the game. You have to survive as a group but you are also a human being with his own selfish goals, or even worst you might revealed yourself being a betrayer. + about the game: the design and materials of this game are very high quality. Each player is in charge of a group of survivors and all players have to work together to survive to the zombie attacks and complete a group objective. In addition each player has to complete his secret objectives that might go against the group benefit (you might even play a betrayal). For each turn, you will also have to resolve a crisis and prevent the arrival in game of special zombie escaped from the raxxon module (see below for a quick explanation of this new module). At that point you get that you will have a lot of things to manage and you will always suspect your friends to work against you whether they need to complete their secret objectives or they are the betrayal of the game. In this game you will not lose because of the death of your characters but because of the loss of morale which obviously starts low in regards of the situation. This game pulls all the psychological strings of the situation of a group of survivors exposed to a zombie attack and will definitely make you feel this anxious atmosphere. + what s new: this extension adds a certain complexity to the existing one of the basic game. Compared to the base game, this version comes with a new set of characters to be played, new objectives, and three additional modules (the improvements, raxxon, and the bandit hideout). A word on the new modules: ! ) the improvements are add-ons you can place to improve your colony, 2) bandits are tokens added to the player areas of locations designed to make life a harder for your survivors as they are able to make you unable to occupy some places, make zombies spawn more in a location, and drain search cards from the location they are in and place them in the bandit hideout stockpile, 3) raxxon contains awesome treasures and crazy game-changing items but they also spawn special zombies which are tough and will prove to be a challenge for you to get rid of and, at times, will make it difficult for you to advance with your objectives.

- P. RossTruly enjoyed this one. I really like the fact that they replaced the paper locations from the original set to actual board. Much better to use. The new modules are fun but can be hard of you play them all together. The new characters and cards are great. This is a great addition to a great game.

First time playing any dead of winter games. Really enjoyed it though the rule book isn't a clear as it could be. It can also take a while to sort the cards if you are playing without the additional modules (which i would recommend to start). The modules are integrated on many of the cards so you will have to figure out what information is relevant on each card for you game. . Overall though very fun. My first character died on his first roll.

Scythe: Invaders Afar Board Game

Scythe: invaders from afar adds two new factions to the base game. Each new faction has a significantly different flavor compared to the base game factions. Their unique abilities allow them for more powerful territory management abilities via traps and flags. The depth added to the game by these tokens ratchets up tension. Watch albion grinding and then dropping a flag on the factory is pure exhilaration. . I must agree with other reviewers though that a few antennae on the green mechs are fragile and broke. It doesn't diminish the expansion though.

While empires rise and fall in eastern europa, the rest of the world takes notice. Two distant factions, albion and togawa, send emissaries to scout the land and employ their own distinct styles of conquering. This expansion to scythe, invaders from afar, adds 2 new factions and the ability to play with as many as 7 players.

- I. WandaI should've read more about this game. I got the base game as a gift and fell in love with it. I decided to get this expansion to add more character options. When i opened the box to examine the contents, i discovered that this expansion does not bring the power dials for battles. If battles are an essential part of the game, they must be included in this kit. I found out i have to pre-order them, as they will be available for sale as of february. I love the game and kudos to the developer, but this expansion is incomplete and i feel cheated. It doesn't have all necesarry components. Right now, it's not an incovenience because i play with two other persons but, if we were going to play full-table, two players would be left without power dials.

Very good

The F.A.Q. for seafall: a legacy game

It's a very clunky start because this is the first legacy game using an original story (as opposed to risk and pandemic). Do not play this game without a dedicated group of friends willing to stick it through the first couple of sessions. It will absolutely be worth it as the story reveals itself over time. . Don't worry about the fact that you will destroy pieces or put stickers over them - the journey is well worth it and the cost of the game split up amongst five people over dozens of hours ends up being a better value than other board games with static pieces. Besides, how many hours have you really put into most of those? . . Every fresh pack of cards you unseal will cause all players to hold their breath after awhile. It will get bleak. And dark. And absolutely amazing. Enjoy the ride!

A number of questions have been asked here.

(0) Question: Can you play with just 2 people? i see other sellers online saying you need 3.

(1) Question: With this being a legacy style game, why is it listed as "high replay value? "

(2) Question: If the game is played as designed, are components destroyed or permanently altered?

(3) Question: Any way to get a replacement captains book? physical or pdf?

(4) Question: Since it's a legacy game, is the board destroyed/ unplayable after finishing the campaign? or can you continue to use the board to play afterward?

(5) Question: Does this come with the metal coins? or is that only if you got it from the main site?

(6) Question: Is this game co-op (pve) or is it players versus players?

Best seafall: a legacy game (z man games) in review

My group is 4 games in and so far it's a lot of fun. This is a legacy game, so if you liked risk legacy but would enjoy some more complexity to keep the game competitive, then this is a good game for you. One thing to note before you get started, unlike risk legacy, each player will control the same kingdom game after game, so it's best played with the same group of 3-5 people, and it's much harder to have someone drop in and out. . While the game and mechanics are fun, there are a few issues in the printing and rules that are rough around the edges in the first edition run. In our case (without any spoilers), we had one objective card that didn't say to destroy it after completing, even though there weren't enough stickers to complete it again, and a box that we opened without any instructions on what to do with the contents. In each case, boardgamegeek. Com has some good forums with faqs that let you find answers without spoiling un-opened parts of the game.
